I have high hopes for the US version of the Inbetweeners. I shouldn't, but I do.

What is the British 'All In The Family' like? Did AITF follow any of the character personalities from the original closely or are they totally different?

Ugh, no. The greatest sitcom ever cannot be 12 episodes long. Nothing wrong with quality over quantity. Part of the reason it's so good is that it didn't sour its reputation by making episodes well past the sell-by date (Only Fools and Horses for one). Do you mean "Post Millionaire trilogy" or Post "series" for OFAH, I thought fools had some great stuff when it became just "Specials". I heard the US was doing it's own Father Ted, ugh

Isn't US Top Gear not terrible? Top Gear without the Real Top Gear guys is NOT Top Gear. The SHOW NEEDS THE ACCENT! Sure, but it doesn't mean that the American Top Gear is bad. While they may be missing a certain charm on the show (mainly because those guys have been together for 8 years and known each other for longer), it's still a show I could watch without qualms.

*ahem* How about Whose Line Is It Anyway? I prefer the American version, though I do feel that it sometimes became too Wayne Brady focused.

To be honest and fair, it's not horrible. I'd wish for some more original challenges and what not though.

I was thinking Sanford and Son as well, but I also believe that Dancing with the Stars is based on a a British show as well.

They're making a U.S. version of Skins? Why?

They're making a U.S. version of Skins? Why? Well, Degrassi was & still is very tame, by Skins standards. From the promos I've reluctantly seen of Skins, it really amps up the trash & sleeze, to the point of me going "Really, MTV?"

Life on Mars is a masterpiece. Fawlty Towers is possibly the greatest Sitcom ever. Ugh, no. The greatest sitcom ever cannot be 12 episodes long. It was good, but its typical of us Brits to overrate the hell out of something, the same way people call The Office a minimalist and realist miracle of TV genius, despite half of it being swearing and gay jokes. Better than a show running too long. I'd say it's the best British sitcom.

More of a drama then a sitcom, but whats happening with the US version of 'Shameless'?
Last I heard that William H Macy was playing the Frank Gallager role and it's set in Chicago (UK it's set in Manchester).

Better than a show running too long. I'd say it's the best British sitcom. Very true. Phoenix Nights only has two series' too, but that show is literally amazing in every way. The UK Office vs US Office is the perfect example of the difference in British and American humour I think. The way that the characters develop in the UK version is a thing of beauty, whereas the US version has no real depth beyond a standard sitcom without the canned laughter. I found this on another forum, but it seems to sum up the thought process nicely: TV exec 1 - "Hey, England has this great show that everyone watches and talks about. The ratings are through the roof and the advertisers are falling over themselves to get a spot in the ad break. We should get the license and show it here!" TV exec 2 - "Hey, I've got a better idea. Why don't we just remake it. We could cut out all those references to Limey stuff that the average American is too dumb to figure out, put in some pointless narration and create a hit all of our own." TV exec 3 - "Great idea Number 2. I do have one suggestion though. Most of these British sitcoms have some kind of gimmick to them it seems. So let's take that out and add our own, changing the feel of the show entirely, but not the name so that when people see it in the listings they'll think,"hey, Peep Show, didn't that win awards in the UK, let's watch that tonight!" ?" TV exec 1 - "Fabulous! Once they've all watched the first episode under false pretences, the ad people will see what a winner the show is and throw money at us!"

Eh, I prefer the US one. Having worked in an office, I prefer the unrealistic treatment of what goes on to the realistic treatment.
