... ... If this had been picked up, I think the term I would have used rhymes with "Clucking Bell".

I think one issue is the channels that they're on, being human won't be allowed the same levels of gore, sex and swearing while I heard that Life on Mars couldn't have an ending that involved showing suicide in a positive light. If a channel with less restrictions remade them they may have more of a chance.
It does seem strange remaking being human when the original hasn't even finished yet.

Nothing wrong with quality over quantity. Part of the reason it's so good is that it didn't sour its reputation by making episodes well past the sell-by date (Only Fools and Horses for one). Do you mean "Post Millionaire trilogy" or Post "series" for OFAH, I thought fools had some great stuff when it became just "Specials". I heard the US was doing it's own Father Ted, ugh I mean the millionaire trilogy onwards. The millionaire trilogy was ok and had some great moments but overall it had some poor taste jokes (Del's crying after Cassandra's miscarriage) and some really unfunny jokes (Batman and Robin was painful IMO). I personally think they should have ended it right after Raquel gave birth to Damien because after that the only great Fools and Horses episode was 'Mother Nature's Son'. And then we wouldn't have the God Awful 'Miami Twice'.

There was a pilot for Outnumbered made with Ken Marino from Party Down Given the improv nature of the kids' dialogue that could work, so long as they keep the premise very simple as in the UK.

I was just looking at Wikipedia and never knew that there were U.S. remakes of "On the Buses" (re-named 'lotsa luck') and "Mind you Language" (re-named 'What a Country'). I'm guessing they didn't do to well?
I know that this is not "British" but the U.S. re-make of the Australian show "Kath & Kim" (starring Molly Shannon and Selma Blair) was just awful. For obvious cultural reasons the jokes and catchphrases were removed, which took away from its charm, and nothing remotely funny or entertaining was put in its place. Also the U.S. version of "Thank God you're here", although not that terrible, just wasn't the same.

I was so disappointed in the US version of Coupling. I was just hooked on the original when I heard a US version was coming out.
10 minutes into the first episode, I wish they had never even tried making a US Version.

Well, Degrassi was & still is very tame, by Skins standards. From the promos I've reluctantly seen of Skins, it really amps up the trash & sleeze, to the point of me going "Really, MTV?" This is true, and the U.K. Skins that I've seen was pretty much only good for very racy storylines and awesome music. I just don't see Skins making much headway here with Degrassi still on the air. I'm surprised kids still watch Degrassi, but that's just my own assessment of how they've done nothing to make any of the newer kids seem like anything but second rate replacements for the first set of Next Generation kids.

Not quite sure it counts, since the same people are in both, but HBO aired "Little Britain USA" not to long ago. I don't think it's coming back for a second season.
Wasn't there supposed to be an American version of "Absolutely Fabulous" with Roseanne that didn't make it?

One show I'm glad the US never touched? (at least as far as I know) was Birds of a feather.
The UK original was painful enough, let alone a remake.

The Fawlty Towers remake called Payne was utterly atrocious.

The basic premise for Red Dwarf USA:
"Let's strip all the characters of all their redeeming qualities and try to rehash all the best jokes with terrible actors."
They even tried to redo the Wilma Flintstone gag. Blasphemy.

i know they were planning a US Absolutely Fabulous starring 'gulp' Roseanne. They scrapped that idea though thank god.
The US Shameless i will give a chance, i used to enjoy the british one a few years back before they got rid of some of the best characters.

I have high hopes for the US version of the Inbetweeners. I shouldn't, but I do. Think 2nd rate American Pie. -Bunch of teens who want to get drunk and have sex. -One of them has a hot mother. -The protagonist is a total loser who fails to function around hot girls (Jim/Nadia, Will/Charlotte Hinchcliffe) -One has an wakward dad who feels the need to say too much (Jim and Simon) I could go on. The US Inbetweeners will suck, because most of what worked was so deeply rooted in UK school traditions, like school discos, camping holidays etc.

Ugh, no. The greatest sitcom ever cannot be 12 episodes long. It was good, but its typical of us Brits to overrate the hell out of something, the same way people call The Office a minimalist and realist miracle of TV genius, despite half of it being swearing and gay jokes. Better than a show running too long. I'd say it's the best British sitcom. A show running too long does not detract from the quality of its best episodes. Seasons 2 and 3 of The Office are funnier than anything the UK version put out.

I probably should've specified a little bit:
I can't stand Top Gear USA, and it can be summed up in two words...
Rutledge Wood.
Everything about the man, his horrible taste, his stupid haircut, his dissing of the Evo X for all the wrong reasons, and his all around douchiness absolutely makes me vomit in my mouth every time I see him.
The entire show may as well just be hosted by Tanner Foust, he's the only one who has any business there and he's the only genuinely tolerable one out of the lot.

i know why this failed... the name Proctor is never funny, well unless the person is called Procter and it's constantly spelled wrong.

... ... If this had been picked up, I think the term I would have used rhymes with "Clucking Bell". It was never actually a Blackadder remake though. Just an American show with the same sort of historical based sitcom idea. There is a story that an American network actually wanted to buy the rights to do a proper Blackadder remake and Rowan Atkinson and Ben Elton said they would never ever work for the BBC again if they sold over the rights. It's like one of those old wives tales, but I like it none the less. American Skins has already started changing characters and storylines, from simply name changes to cutting out the gay experiment that caused so much trouble in series 1. Doesnt look at all good (but then neither does UK series 5). US Inbetweeners just wont work. As someone has said, the cultural jokes just aren't there for it to work.
