I just watched this. For a movie slightly over 2 hours I think the pacing of it was pretty good. The first half or so had some good laughs in it and the chicken scene in particular was exciting. However the last 40 minutes or so took a major nose dive and was horribly cheesy.
Who else has seen it? How many stars would you give it? I'm thinking 3 out of 5.

I like Richard Curtis and I like most of the actors in it. Shame it was a crap film. It was way too long and there are so many unnecessary scenes, such as the pathetic contest when Rhys Ifans and Philip Seymour Hoffman climb to the top of the mast.
Curtis needs to stick to writing and let someone else direct his films.
The American trailer for this was pathetic. "One American DJ and a band of Misfits". I think they cut 20 minutes of it for the American release.

I think they cut 20 minutes of it for the American release. I went into it completely cold not having seen the trailer. I did like the mast scene though. I think it would have been a better movie overall if the last 40 minutes or so were trimmed down to about 15 or 20. I hated the ending though, so ideally that whole section just would have been different.

I saw it when it was first released here in the US after hearing so much good about it... and it was ... bleh.
I also watched the original version of the film without the US edits, in hopes that maybe it was edited down and some plot developments were lost; it was even harder to sit through.
Like DiG said, it was too long and unnecessary scenes that didn't really build to anything.

I liked it. The soundtrack kept me interested anyway. I liked the part where, um, Del Preston suddenly shows up in the kitchen area and no one knows who he is and he's been on the boat for 8 months. I found that pretty amusing.

I was surprised to see Chris O'Dowd from The IT Crowd there. Always thought he was limited to TV, but I guess the plan was introduce him into movies.
And then he's the bad guy in Gulliver's Travels.
Well, there goes THAT plan.......

I don't want to watch it, I love the story of Radio Caroline that I don't want this film to taint it
