It was Activision, not Nintendo, who prevented the remake of the original game from being released. Rare tried to work out a deal with them to use the James Bond licence, but Activision backed out at the last minute. There was a rumour that it was Nintendo who originally put pressure on them to do so, but that was unsubstantiated. And frankly it never really made sense, since Nintendo has no claim of ownership over the game whatsoever.

Greedy Nintendo. Rare were developing a straight remake a few years back but Nintendo told them to go f*** themselves and wouldn't license anything back to Rare. So instead they remade Perfect Dark, which is equally as good as Goldeneye. I remember this. I can only imagine how pissed 360 owners must've been when this was announced. I thought they would have already been pissed since the Rare sale so many years back that brought jack all to the system.

It'd be no more Nintendo's fault than WWE wanting to make more No Mercy system wrestling games. Nintendo doesn't own third party games.

Indeed, they went from having problems with Activision playing hardball pointlessly to Nintendo chiming in wanting a port, thus rendering the whole thing a massive loss for Rare and Microsoft Studios. Greedy, opportunistic Nintendo absolutely stands.

Can't we all just be happy Wii is getting a good game?!?
Goldeneye is all I'm going to have to play until Skyward Sword is released.

Well, what do you know, this game actually is pretty good! I was expecting Activision and Eurocom to screw up the whole thing, but so far I've been having a great time with the single player campaign (just finished the frigate level). Of course, most of the time it feels more like Call of Duty: James Bond than the original Goldeneye 007... then again I suppose that was to be expected, this is an Activision game after all and it's been 13 years since the original came out anyway.
You know what I miss? Driving the tank in the Runway level, that was great in the original game. I know you still get to drive a tank later on when you go to St. Petersburg, but it's not the same thing!
EDIT: Oh yeah, and where's the damn Klobb?! Sure, they couldn't use that name and all, but at least put in some sort of a gun that never hits anything and doesn't do any damage when it does hit something!

It was a really good game, Not as good as the N64 version but still good.
I hated however was - No Gunbarrel (The N64 had one for petes sake) - The title song was in the wrong place (Should have been after the runway NOT the jump) - The pre level breifings were bland - The music was poor (I can't remember a single tune besides the "Bond theme" & "Goldeneye") - Missing weapons

I assume Satoru Iwata hears "Theme from Ironside" everytime he looks at a game Rare made for X-Box, so yeah, I can understand why Nintendo would do everything in it's power to hinder them.
As for the game itself, you have to remember. It's a ten year old shooter. More than any other franchise, shooters have advanced the most since the dawn of 3-D.

Funnily enough Goldeneye is more advanced than ALOT of FPS games that have been out since, Besides graphics obviously.

I almost... almost... want to get a WII for this. But then I think back to the fact that the original Goldeneye was the reason I got an N64 and it doesn't seem worth it, IMO. I mean Goldeneye was my favorite game back then and I got years of play out of it, but I don't think it and the handfull of good N64 games were worth getting an entire system for.
Maybe if I can find a cheap used Wii.....

Nintendo wasn't being any more greedy than any other company would've been about it. The videogame console war can be pretty cut-throat at times. So this invalidates what I said?, or was it just an attempt to deflect Ninty criticism? Are you seriously bashing a company for not just giving the rights to something away to another company that has no intention of using them in a way that will benefit both? You might as well get mad at Nintendo for not letting SOE make their own Mario game as a PS3 exclusive.

You might as well get mad at Nintendo for not letting SOE make their own Mario game as a PS3 exclusive. If I recall from the rumors(although it may may have been a filthy lie) The deal would've been that 360 would've gotten the remake on XBLA with online while the Wii would've gotten the original on VC. But as Free Hat said earlier, Nintendo has no claim of ownership of the game whatsoever so it's all a moot point. But on Topic, I'm glad that this game is doing well and on the Wii no less. Between this, Sonic Colors, and DKCR getting good reviews, it's a good time to be a Wii owner and a lover of retro revivals.

Sounds interesting, as long as the controls are good. I'm planning on picking up a Wii soon anyway, probably on black friday.

I remember this. I can only imagine how pissed 360 owners must've been when this was announced. I thought they would have already been pissed since the Rare sale so many years back that brought jack all to the system. It brought Conker to the Xbox. Lots of people loved that. They also brought Kameo, Perfect Dark Zero, and Viva Pinata to the 360, all solid, and in Viva Pinata's case, great, games.

Right, I found out the hard way that this game doesn't automatically save your checkpoints... I had to do Cradle all over again when my Wii decided to crash approximately one minute before the end of the level. The part where you protect Natalya when she's hacking the GoldenEye satellite is somehow even more annoying here than it was in the N64 game, as now you need to take care of three waves of RANDOMLY SPAWNING enemies AND there is a time limit! And I had to complete that part all over again when the game crashed! Wonderful!
At least I finally finished this thing. I liked the game quite a lot, although towards the end there was no longer any sign of the stealth gameplay I particularly enjoyed, it was pretty much all shooting (and the occasional QTE, which were thankfully quite easy) for the last couple of levels.

I also played (And finished) "Bloodstone"
It was a good game but I felt it could have done alot more, Some of the cool moments that would have made good videogame moments were cutscenes.
Fights with villains should have been QTE fights (A bit cliche I admit but it would pad the game).

I am bringing this back up since I got the game for Christmas.
Gotta say it is the second best FPS I have played this year, and I have played a lot, second only to Bad Company 2. But Golden Eye has the best single player, I like this game tons more than Black ops and MW2.

I also got the game for Christmas, and indeed, the Wii.
It's a decent game, but I had to go buy a proper controller. I couldnt be doing with this game and the motion sensor controls.

I was the same till i farted around with the settings and it became much better. Go to the Wii's controller settings on the GoldenEye menu, and click Customize. try: Go into cursor settings and do the following;
Set the deadzone to 15 above, 35 across.
Set the maximum turn to 100 (which is default)
Set the horizontal speed to 30
Set the verticle speed to 9
Set the cursor sensitivity to MAXIMUM.
Now go into the ADS options, and do the following;
Set the deadzone to 17 above, 17 across.
Set the maximum turn to 90 above, 90 across.
Set the horizontal speed to 20
Set the verticle speed to 10
Set the cursor sensitivity to MAXIMUM.
Now exit those options, and set the camera to; Wii Remote Turning, and turn 'Look' OFF.
Have the Auto re-centre and Turn while cursor off-screen settings ON.
