I'm still ecstatic about the concept of a Rams playoff berth. I can understand why fans of every other may turn their nose up at the idea at this point. But when you win 6 games in 3 years, and have nothing to look forward to after Week 3, you take whatever comes your way, as long as it's better than what was previously there. I agree that division winners should be in the playoffs, (otherwise what is the point of divisions) but they should be the number 6 seed if they have a non winning record. It's just not fair to other teams that they get to 'host' a playoff game yet they have an even or losing record. It doesn't make sense. I actually think they should get the 4 seed, but shouldn't have home field. Division Winners get 1-4 seeds. Wild Cards are 5-6. Best Record gets home field regardless. Don't want to see Division Winner vs. Division Winner in the Wild Card round.

It is reported today that they are going to test Favre on Friday to see if he can pass the concussion test. Now people know how I think he's a self centered douchebag, but someone should sit him down and say, "Hey Brett. This game means nothing, we're out of the playoffs. Detroit has an defense that is knocking the s*** out of quarterbacks and our offensive line sucks. You've been taking a terrible beating this season and they really don't know all the ill effects of concussions. You're retiring at the end of the season, so you really should look at the possibility that you will get another one getting slammed to the turf on Sunday. It will effect the quality of your life after football, so you really should sit out this week for your health and well being. So even though I don't care much for the man, he should take his future health into consideration over the drive to play on Sunday. I totally agree with you. However the fact that it's Favre makes your argument void.

The Houston Chronicle's John McClain seconds an NFL Network report that "indications" are owner Bob McNair will keep Gary Kubiak as head coach while hiring Wade Phillips to run the defense.
The Dallas Morning News suggests David Buehler will have to outperform newly signed Kris Brown in practice the next two days to keep field-goal duties for Week 17.

It's been reported that James Harrison has also been fined $100,000 for the tripping incident against Miami a few weeks back. When asked to comment about this latest fine, Harrison simply exclaimed "You've gotta be f***ing kidding me!"

I'll be glad when Favre retires, not because I dislike the guy or anything, but because then it will force people to talk about something else.

Remember those big fines doled out after those infamous helmet-to-helmet hits in Week 6?
All 3 players that were fined(Dunta Robinson, Brandon Meriweather, James Harrison) got their fines reduced on appeal.
Robinson's fine was cut to $25,000(initially $50,000), Meriweather's to $40,000(from $50,000), and Harrison's to $50,000(from $75,000).

Edit: Also, Saints WR Marques Colston had underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right knee on Tuesday. Officially listed as questionable Sunday, but unlikely to play, he may be back for the Saints' first playoff game.

Vikings LG Steve Hutchinson and RG Anthony Herrera are both in danger of getting released if the team begins a youth movement in 2011.
The Vikings are expected to part ways with WR Bernard Berrian and FS Madieu Williams this offseason.
Impending free agent NT Pat Williams believes Sunday's game is probably his last with the Vikings.

As a Vikes fan... 1) Keep Hutch. The guy is one of the best in the league and prior to this year has been healthy. Need some leadership on the O-line and you know you aren't going to get it from Phil Loadholt, John Sullivan, or even Bryant McKinnie at this point. 2) Good, get rid of both of them. Berrian hasn't done anything the past couple of years and was only the "golden WR" for Jackson...speaking of Jackson he needs to be gone also. Webb looked better in his 1 start as a Rookie than what I've really seen out of Jackson (sorry, 1 game against a "no show" Cardinals team doesn't cut it for me). Not saying Webb is the team's future, but the guy looked more like a QB and more comfortable in the pocket than Jackson ever really did. Madieu Williams hasn't lived up to the hype that he had when he came to the Vikings. The guy just flat out misses coverages and gets burned. 3) Pat has been talking about retiring lately and I think it has just been known between him and the Vikings (and fans) that this year would be the last. Right after last season he said this year would be it, but now he's changed his mind. I'd love to have the guy back and continue the Williams Wall for another year. It won't be the same without big Pat on the line, and it won't be the same seeing him in a different uniform either. I'd try to keep him, but this is a move I can understand. The guy is pretty old.

Carolina, your nightmare is (partially) over. From the Department of "Duh!"... sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=5975190John Fox will not be brought back next season. He should be dragged out of his house in the middle of the night and tarred/feathered for this, though. Carolina was a playoff team 2 years ago. WTF?

This would be my best advice for Carolina, hire Bill Cowher and draft Cam Newton.
