spoonyexperiment.com/2010/12/31/final-fantasy-x-finale/ (language warning) The epic final installment of the Spoony One's FFX review is here, and it's... eh, okay, I suppose. I really wanted to hear his take on all the retarded minigames you need to play to get the ultimate weapons, but he doesn't even mention them and instead chooses to spend at least five minutes of the video dressing up in silly costumes. (by the way, my personal opinion on the FFX minigames is something to the effect of "F*** YOU, CATCHER CHOCOBO AND THUNDER PLAINS LIGHTNING DODGING AND BUTTERFLY GAME AND EVERYONE WHO MADE THIS GAME, F*** YOU ALL TO HELL", but I digress) I did get a laugh out of Black Lantern Spoony's "I am a shadow, the true self", though.

Just watched it. I knew I'd find the skit at the end bad, but I did the last time with the FF8 review. Other than that I've liked the whole review.
And I guess that was a hint at the start that he's reviewing X-2?

And I guess that was a hint at the start that he's reviewing X-2? You mean the brief shot of Yuna from the X-2 ending? I thought that picture was there just because she happens to look so incredibly stupid in it (no one should smile like that, ever), but I certainly wouldn't mind seeing Spoony review X-2. Even when I still liked FFX years ago, I thought X-2 was awful on just about every possible level. A review of FF XIII would work too, I guess, but then again Spoony already spent a considerable time ranting about that game in one of his vlogs.

I meant when he said something of along the lines of "don't worry about X-2, It's time will come eventually".

The ending wasn't that funny and filled with predictable jokes. Then again, the Linkara cameo just caused me to tilt my head. I know it makes "sense" with their ongoing "story" but...I don't know, it just didn't help.
I guess it was okay. Perhaps I would've enjoyed the review more if I had actually played FFX (although, a couple earlier parts of the review were amusing to me.)

Its weird, hes putting all types of effort into effects and such, but he doesn't seem to be putting in as much effort to the actual series. He could easily have done another 2 videos on this game, tripled his income I say.

I just think he really hated doing this.

I think that a part of why he decided to just power through FFX instead of treating it like FF8 was the fact that he did spend a goodly portion of the year sick and just wanted to get it over with. Plus, I remember people thinking that the video he did just on how much he hated the Draw system from FF8 was the worst part of the whole series... or the video he did that focused mainly on the card game (which, as far as I know about FF8, you had to do). Don't get me wrong, an entire video dedicated to him trashing the optional mini-games would have been great, but that's just it; most of them were optional. The only one I know you had to do was Blitzball, and that was mercifully over quickly. In other words, harping on side-quests and what-not would have been pointless, and not something that he's ever done with these reviews. We all know chocobo racing is bulls***. We all hate dodging lightning, and most of us would probably skin the guys who designed the butterfly catching game alive. But all of that stuff wasn't part of the main plot. He never brought up getting the final weapons in FF8, either, if you'll recall. With that said... I dunno if this was worth the wait. I know he was bombed with delay after delay, but it felt kinda... rushed. Which, in retrospect, it probably was. The skit stuff at the end doesn't bother me as much as it should, but it did seem kinda pointless overall, and could have gone towards maybe a bit more focus on just how big of a dick some of those Seymour fights could be (MT GAGAZET!!!), even if he did beat the crap out of "Tidus". <_< Now, if you want somebody ragging on the FFX minigames... may I suggest this delightful read? www.videogamerecaps.com/recaps/games.php?game=5

He never brought up getting the final weapons in FF8, either, if you'll recall. Well, the ultimate weapons in FF VIII were obtainable by just killing monsters or playing Triple Triad (you can actually get Squall's Lionheart gunblade on disc 1 if you play an ungodly amount of Triple Triad and have some luck with random drops), so there wouldn't have been much point in bringing up that stuff because you could pretty much get all of the weapons by simply playing the game. (And as far as I recall, in FF VIII you don't actually have to play Triple Triad at any point, but it certainly helps if you don't want to spend an eternity drawing magic or killing monsters for items) Here, on the other hand, you have several pointless minigames to do if you want the best weapons and all of those are infuriatingly bad, so I would've expected Spoony to at least show them off as yet another reason why FFX is such a horrible game. But eh, I don't know, I guess I was just looking forward to hearing him rant about the chocobo race and especially the butterfly game in one of these videos, because those damn minigames were the bane of my existence back in the day. He did actually mention the lightning dodging in an earlier part, saying something like "If you actually do this stuff, you officially have less of a life than I do!"

Oh no, I agree, it probably would have been funny to see him go off on the chocobo races or the butterfly catching mini-games. But part of the problem with doing something like that is that, well... you said so yourself, he already mocked the lightning dodging mini-game and said that anyone who actually dodged all two hundred bolts was a bigger loser than he was. Do you honestly think he'd add much more on those other mini-games other than complaining that whoever programmed them had been huffing paint like a mofo?
On a related note, the FFX forums on GameFAQS are an awesome cesspool of negativity right now about this review, accusing him of not getting the plot or ever mentioning the game mechanics, and calling him out on complaining about throwing the three characters that can fight underwater into the water trap. With their weapons, armor, and items. I know from a gameplay point of view they HAD to do this, but... from a storytelling point of view, why didn't they throw Lulu, Auron, and Kimahri in while weighing them down with iron weights (or Lulu's belts?)
Hell, why didn't they just shoot them?
Then again, it's not being helped by his fans rushing in to defend him... it's their opinion that he's not funny and wrong, and that's fine and cool. It's my opinion that while covering some of the optional, face-punching aspects of FFX would have been awesome (as well as maybe some more focus on the actual boss fights), I'm content enough with what we did get to not be too disappointed.

Look, we all know that the only fun minigame in FFX was Blitzball. True Story.
Lightning dodging was a dull and tedious exercise, butterfly catching was infuriating and the Chocobo race was a pain in the ass. Does anyone need to be told about these issues?

Spoony dressed up like Tidus just may be the most disgusting image he's ever conjured up.

I completely cracked up at "you know, this guys gets stronger the more he completely fails, he's like Uwe Boll."
Man, I hated his FF8 videos, but those are great. And I don't even hate FFX. Not that I like it very much either, it's just... kinda okay to me. And like he says, very, very tedious, repetitive and all-around boring.
