How did this get started exunctly? I've always heard these jokes about Smackdown's head booker having less than admirable opinions regarding 'the black people' but never heard the reason as to why it's said. There any stories or reports that point towards this at all?

Isn't Michael Hayes married to a black woman? Also Booker T loved working with him.
Basically Hayes was suspended for a couple of months during the WM24 after party where he said Mark Henry is my n*****. Also Bobby Lashley hated working with Michael Hayes and whenever someone asked Bobby why he would always say he's not comfortable talking about it or don't kill the mood or something along the lines.

He said he was a bigger n-word than Mark Henry was.

He thinks he's black, apparently.
Some people can deal with it, others can't.

Ya see, Michael Hayes comes from a time and place when slurs and the like were...well, I don't want to say "accepted"...let's go with common-place, in the back stage areas and locker rooms.
I don't know about lately, though. My guess is he's just too old and stubborn to change.

Apparently he's not. Booker T defended him when that issue came out. Basically, he was drunk and said something stupid. Haha, Michael could write a book and should could be the Title.

Honestly, I'm suprised more people in wrestling aren't outed as being racist, what with the Southern roots and all.

I don't know how true this is, but I also heard that Ric Flair, Dusty Rhodes, and Bill Watts were all racists? Are those true or are those lies used to discredit them?

Well I don't know about the other two, but during Bill Watts's booking term in WCW he did attempt to package Harlem Heat as two black guys lead to the ring in chains by a rich white Southern man. It's pretty hard not to construe that as such.

Dick Murdoch and Brian Pillman also were labeled as racists. Jim Cornette as well.
Prince Nana said that he hates black people too.

Flair was offended by Brute Bernard and Skull Murphy using racial slurs and chasing a black man when he traveled with them early in his career.

Watt left in early 93 (with Bischoff then getting the lead job, and JR leaving shortly afterward) and Harlem Heat didn't show up in WCW until August.

My question is: What's the difference between a "Good ol' boy" and a flat out racist? Is there a difference? To add to that: Which category would "Cowboy" Bob Orton fall under?
I ask because, from watching interviews with Roddy Piper, I've heard a couple stories that could be construed as racist.

The Watts thing was because he told...I think the Observer that people should be able to restrict who goes into their establishment. The bad part was it was in reference to a story about a restaurant owner who didn't want black people in his restaurant. The interview made it's way to Hank Aaron, who was also working for Turner in a much higher position. He got upset, and Watts got canned.

Flair loves Jay Lethal so I guess not. I remember R-Truth said in a shoot interview before he got hired from the WWE in 2008 that J.R. is a racist.

I was born and raised in New Jersey but having lived in the south for a little over two years now even I have to take some offense to that statement. "The south" is just like any other place I've ever been to when it comes to race relations, if anything I've seen more interracial relationships here than anywhere else.

Hayes, as I recall the story, was sitting with Booker and MVP and were talking about the Freebirds and Hayes telling all sorts of road stories, which led to either Booker or MVP saying Hayes was "blacker" than they were.
The night went on, people got drunker, and Henry got understandbly upset at something out of context.
