Mostly tongue and cheek, but looking back, there've been a lot of misfires this year, especially considering that so many things could have gone well. What was the worst mistake of them. (Note: This doesn't necessarily mean "gooker-worthy" items, just what you consider to be biggest faux-pas of the year).
Nexus - Started off amazing... then stopped being amazing. Fairly quickly.
NXT - Becoming a WWE superstar, one mustache promo and ribbon dance at a time.
Stand up for WWE! - DISCLAIMER - Not affiliated with a certain political campaign that cannot be discussed as per board rules.
Edge vs. Kane - When an angle is so bad it overshadows Rey Mysterio as world champion, you know you're on to something special.
Hornswoggle - They spent this year trying to teach him how to talk? Seriously, did Finlay feed him nothing but beer when he was a baby?
Obligatory Guest Host option - Because we can't forget MacGruber
Kaval - Wins NXT in August. Jobbed and gone by December
Iron Sheik is given a live mic on Raw- OK, OK, it's not the most significant or damaging choice on here, but really... just look at him? Listen to him for 30 seconds? Who in the WWE thought "Hey, let's give him a live mic on Raw!" They actually had to cut him off, and I can't recall them cutting anyone else off, at least not in a long, long time.

Michael Cole's new persona. Entertaining at first, now just irritating and not in the "Boo you're a heel" way. More like a "Mute/change the channel, don't care if it's Bryan or Miz" way.

I really don't see any of these as "misfires", frankly.
The Nexus angle did start off hot, but it would be near impossible to keep it that way. It did, however, remain solid.
NXT has been wonderful entertainment, whether intentionally or not.
Stand up for WWE was just an ad campaign, no different than "Where's The Beef!?".
Edge vs. Kane has indeed had some silly moments, but has been saved by Paul Bearer's acting, and has blown some life back into Kane.
Hornswoggle is over with one of their major target demographics.
Guest Hosts, well... this one I might agree was a misfire. In theory, it was a really great idea to drum up word of mouth. In practice, though... a lot of disasters, which highlighted the weakness of the writers.
Kaval wanted to leave. Not everyone fits into the WWE's organizational culture. WWE put him on TV at least, I mean they could have treated him like they did Kaz.
Iron Shiek, well, no big deal. They gave him a live mic, likely for the lulz. If anything, the way they (and many others in the business) treat Sheik in general is stupid.
Anyway, I am by no means a WWE apologist (I find it terribly uninspired, most of the time) but I really don't think from a business standpoint, any of these things are "stupid".

I think Kaval leaving is a big mistake, but apparently he wanted out, so its kind of hard to fault WWE for that.
My pick would be having Cena show up the very next week on Raw after being fired to torment Nexus. They should have at least tried to go a few weeks without him and had Nexus do something truly horrible to warrant him returning to finish them off once and for all. Coming back immediately evaporated a lot of goodwill he had built up and just didn't make sense story wise.

The Iron Shiek option should be null and void because of the fact Santino botched big time.
As for me, this is tough, but I think the Nexus angle after the start is far and away the winner. While mishandling a popular wrestler is bad, giving 7 rookies a fake ego boost is worse and does not fairly represent the future of the company.

How about the way they handled Bret Hart's return, turning it into an awful feud with McMahon drawn out over many Raws of "Next Week (maybe) Bret/Vince will respond!", a truly deplorable segment with a fake car accident, and eventually a forgettable horribly worked match at Wrestlemania.
Why not just have Bret Hart come back, and be like "Hey! Bret Hart!". Without the nonsense, the feud, and especially without the fake car accident.

Nexus could have been the hottest stable since the nWo, but due to PG constraints (tie-choking and all), and ADD booking, it ended too quickly and was just another example of Cena squashing more up and coming stars (Note: I do not fault Cena for this-it is the writers' fault).

As bad as Nexus was, Kaval was WAAYYY worse.
He won your f***ing competition, and you have NOTHING for him? Seriously, I can't emphasize this enough. HE WON YOU'RE f***ING COMPETITION, "THE NEXT BREAKOUT STAR"

Honorable mention to letting Aloisia go. I still haven't completely gotten over that.

Edge/Kane was a logistical nightmare. Even though it's all fake, scripted and all that mince, that angle was just mad for all the wrong reasons.

Mickie James....I know there were personal issues there but the loss of her really hurts the women's division.

I think the entire NXT experiment in general qualifies, but the fate of Kaval is probably the biggest f***up of that whole fiasco.

Firing John Cena storyline. Everyone has already gone into lengths over why it was stupid.

Mickie James....I know there were personal issues there but the loss of her really hurts the women's division. Not really. The Divas have been at a point for some time where every Diva is expendable. Natalya could get endeavoured tomorrow, and while this board would raise hell, fans would just get used to it. Besides a small WE WANT MICKIE chant in her hometown, no crowd really missed her.

Misuse of the mid and lower card guys would be my answer. Guys like Regal, Chavo, Goldust, Tatsu, JTG, Primo, Young, Masters, Ryder, Baretta, and Hawkins could have really offered some diversity and break up of the usual monotony on Raw (and especially SD if they had been willing to move a few guys over there). Instead most of them are stuck having the same matches on Superstars. That's not even getting into released guys like Archer, Gallows, Shad, Croft and so on.
And with the departures of MVP, Shelton, Matt Hardy, Kaval (whom themselves weren't given much to do) the lack of talent use and diversity just stands out even more. I mean, its telling that Borne and Christian are both out with injuries, but even if they weren't its not likely they'd be doing much anyway.

More than any other year (for me personally), 2010 stood out for how much the midcard guys have been pushed aside and misused.
