I'll say this about Day of the Dead: It's a great zombie movie that's ruined by having Zombies in it. It was interesting enough to see the dynamic of the civilians versus the military, the character of Rhodes and the three main civilians fleshed out, as well as the activities after hours. Then, the zombies ruin it, not only looking tacky, even for a 70's movie, you got those slapsticky moments involving them in the last part, kinda take you out of it, even with a gruesome death just right before. {Spoiler}Ending was also weird. Yeah, we have all the military guys dead, the three remaining civilians survive, but it looks like the zombies are in the chopper, go after the female of the group, and it's revealed to be a dream, as they're safe on an island, fishing and counting down the days. bit of a jarring transition, isn't it? It's good, though I usually just stop the film before the 3rd act kicks in. {Spoiler}Still works, cause we all know Frankenstein was the real asshole in the movie, and I was glad to see him shot.

EDIT: And I'll just leave this here: Information on the upcoming Wrong Turn 4Yes. They did just mention The Shining. They really did. I miss Joe Lynch doing the second one. ;D And I wish I had a 360 as well, but like Rorschach, i'm a SONY guy at the heart.

There were 3 Wrong Turn movies? I knew of the first sequel, but didn't know a second was made.

And I wish I had a 360 as well, but like Rorschach, i'm a SONY guy at the heart. I'm really not a video game person. I've got a PS2, and only about 10 games for it. I vastly prefer, like, a Sega Genesis, though. So yeah, basically, no XBL for me. *shrug*

I basically only play wrestling games, though I've dabbled with Red Dead Redemption and the Left 4 Dead franchise (go figure that horror games would be up my alley). The Netflix streaming is the real mileage I get out of the system. My connection has been fluctuating recently, which hopefully will not screw up a future Netflix party. It will be a short while until I'll be able to do a Netflix party, though. I accidentally broke my microphone, which prevents me from ripping the film with you guys. Hopefully, I'll be able to get a new one shortly.

Watched Paranormal Entity last night. I know it's a rip off of Paranormal Activity but at least it was a good rip off. I enjoyed it. Just got done watching a movie called Zombie Wars. Good low budget zombie movie but the ending was a bit stupid and {Spoiler}seemed to try too hard in their homage to Night of the Living Dead "shock" ending. David blatently wasn't a zombie yet the moron guard was so dumb he shot him anyway. I don't think it was revenge from an earlier scene either. He was just a dumb redneck who didn't pay attention. I hope the general capped his ass.

Leave it to our favorite whipping team to mess up a potentially awesome movie.

I hear that Alien vs. Ninja from our friends at Funimation Studios is a BLAST to watch. And if it is indeed a Tokyo Shock release...then it could be epic on the levels of Frankenstein Girl vs. Vampire Girl. That movie was a lot of fun to watch, AND it had some kickass fight scenes. EDIT: Got this bit of news on the US release of JU-ON: White Ghost/JU-ON: Black Ghost in my inbox today: www.dreadcentral.com/news/42740/well-go-usa-unleash-ju-white-ghost-ju-black-ghost-blu-ray-and-dvdGot mine pre-ordered from Amazon already. Hey TR...d'you think you could repost those reviews of it you did? Those were AMAZING, and since many of us here are only NOW getting these movies, it's pretty appropriate to revisit them, doncha think?

I watched this movie a week or 2 ago, but I still remember it pretty well. And I don't feel like I've contributed anything cool in this thread lately, so here's a review:
DERANGED (1974) - Written and Co-Directed by Alan Ormsby, a man probably most famous for collaborating with a young Bob Clark on CHILDREN SHOULDN'T PLAY WITH DEAD THINGS and DEATHDREAMS. Clark produced this picture, though he did so using a pseudonym.
At any rate, the very first thing we, the viewers, see in this film is a notice that the events of this film are all true, but names have been changed. We are then greeted by a narrator, who drives home the idea that this film is a dramatization of actual events.
We finally get to the story proper: Ezra Cobb (Roberts Blossom) is a middle-aged man living with his mother. Ezra's father died when he was young, and Ezra and Mrs. Cobb have relied solely on each other to take of everything around the house. When Mrs. Cobb takes ill, Ezra waits on her hand and foot until the day she dies, cursing all women as whores and imploring Ezra to stay away from them with her dying breath.
Ezra's loneliness following his mother's death leads to depression and psychosis, to the point where he believes his mother talks to him from her grave. Ezra winds up digging up his mother's corpse and bringing her back home, but when she doesn't have that look of vitality he remembered her having, Ezra takes to digging up the more recently deceased to use their flesh to restore his mom's looks and provide her company.
Ezra openly admits his misdeeds to his neighbor, a friend from his school days named Harlon Kootz, and his family. But Mr. Kootz simply passes Ezra's comments off as a dark sense of humor. The Kootzes implore Ezra to settle down and get married, or at least go out on dates, but when a woman Ezra sees gets a little too hot and bothered, his mother's voice pops into his head discouraging sins of the flesh, and Ezra becomes a murderer. It's hardly a good sign when Ezra starts to get more sociable with lady folk around town. Hopefully one of these days Harlon will stop laughing at Ezra's dark "jokes"...
In case you couldn't tell, DERANGED is inspired by the work of one Ed Gein, the muse for the creators of PSYCHO and THE TEXAS CHAIN SAW MASSACRE. DERANGED comes off a bit like a cross-pollination of the two flicks, with the grimey putrid atmosphere of CHAIN SAW and (generally) the understated gruesomeness of PSYCHO.
A few things set this film apart from those two, in a positive way. The most obvious being Tom Savini's usual excellence in makeup effects, this time creating disgusting decaying corpses.
That narrator I mentioned at the beginning of the review pops up every once in awhile explain events between scenes. Rather than take away from the sense of dread, this narrator actually reminds you that you're watching a dramatization of real events, which creates a mood not unlike Robert Stack's narration on episodes of Unsolved Mysteries (though Les Carlson as the narrator is no Robert Stack). This mood carries the film through some bizarre and at times humorous scenes preventing the sense of dread from truly dissipating.
Roberts Blossom gives a great performance as Ezra Cobb. He switches gears between being a kindly, sympathetic old dope and a creepy murderous necrophile believably. You'd need someone with skill to carry the film as a villain protagonist, and Blossom has it in spades. The rest of the cast is very good, but its rightfully HIS movie.
Finally, there's an overall weirdness to the proceedings that I can't quite explain. There's plenty of scenes of Ezra talking to his mom's corpse (and even sometimes providing her voice, too). The narrator shows up in scenes with Ezra, as Ezra continues his vile deeds as though he weren't there. There's also one of Ezra's dates, where a lonely old widow conducts a sceance with her dead husband to get his blessing for her to engage in, uh...carnal activities. And another date where Ezra attempts to impress a young woman with musical instruments made with human hair and skin. All very strange, and again, occasionally tongue-in-cheek, bu still all quite fascinating.
I dunno what else to say, but 4.3 stars out of 5. I tried to buy this DVD (a double feature with the horror-comedy classic MOTEL HELL) online twice, and both times it never arrived and I had to get my money back. I finally found it used at a local FYE and snatched it up post-haste. And this DVD is WELL WORTH the hassle and effort put in to get it. Check it out!

Here ya go. DSR...I've always been curious as to whether someone in this thread had seen Deranged. My Serial Killer Files book names it as one of the 15 greatest "serial killer" films of all time (along with the WOEFULLY underrated Citizen X - now there's a movie that's long overdue for an IHR induction), and that review definitely validates the author of that book's high opinion of it. Nice work.

From a recent interview with Todd Farmer
He also points out elsewhere in the interview that Lionsgate was "a company founded on sequels", yet they saw no franchise potential in My Bloody Valentine

Weird that Lionsgate didn't want any sequels, considering they seem to love churning them out like it's nothing.

Watched Paranormal Activity 2 Wednesday night, loved it. Very spooky
Just watched Big Bad Wolf. Great B rated werewolf movie. Love the one liners from the wolf. Great gore effects too.
