To me, Dolph is french vanilla. He has a little "flavor", but to me, he's still bland as hell. He's a decent wrestler, okay promo guy, and he's "Billy Gunn'd" himself, as chances are he won't be able to raise much higher than he is now. It doesn't help that he basically has the LOOKS and MOVESET of Billy Gunn, either. Ultimately, his destiny seems to be to form a homoerotic tag team with Tyler Reks, and the Billy Gunn parallels would be complete.

With Kaval gone, I don't think we have to worry about any Warrior beating Ziggler...ha! I will not let this get no-sold. Well done sir!

I do not think anyone is going to break that record for a while.
For a start, WWE made a habit of pushing someone hard, than immediately stopping it if it doesn't bring fast results. And even if it does, they just as well take the title off a champion thinking he did all he could with it and he will be just as over without, so they can start to elevate another one using the title. Beside that... we're just living in a faster world. It's just hard to believe WWE could push someone as long as they did with HTM or Brune Sammartino. I guess we just want to see things happen. And a title change is always a big deal to happen. It's very hard to keep a champion fresh and interesting for so long, especially if the spectators are so vocal about preferring to see the title on whoever the guy is actually feuding.
Of course, good writing would make a champion fresh for as long as they want him to. It's not that hard to write a soap opera with keeping a focus on the same character if they do it right. But... This is WWE creative.

Can't we have someone more interesting do it instead? Hell, Big Show would be a better choice if he's going to retire soon. Have him as the big man Champion to beat when you're thinking of giving someone on the lower card a push to rise up in the ranks. Or at least take away Vickie so he can win a match by himself. There's a point, without Vickie, does Dolph have heat of his own?

Ziggler's probably holding it until the draft, if only because Smackdown's roster is in such dire straits that there's no one else to give it to at the moment.
That said, Dolph's just not very interesting, and there really isn't much else that can be done with him until they finally get around to overhauling his entire gimmick and character. Nick Nemeth is a talented performer, but he's not making it past the midcard (or even remaining a particularly entertaining part of the midcard, for that matter) until he reinvents himself.
The only guy in the last several years who I could've seen doing it was Santino. They wrapped up the Glamarella-era reign much too soon.

Yes, he should. He is one of the most talented guys they have there, one of the workhorses of the company, and he deserves every success he gets.

While I disagree with everything said regarding Dolph being an average performer, quite frankly he does need to lose the Billy Gunn looks.

Meh. I can't get excited about the guy. He's modestly decent at best. I wouldn't mind another month or two, but there's no way he should break Honky's record. The only guy honestly that could have done it would have been Santino. It would have been amazing, and I'm disappointed that WWE didn't have the followthrough to do it. So instead of a guy who's pretty good in the ring & on the mic you rather have had the record broken by a comedy wrestler? Well... A)I really don't consider Dolph that good on the mic. He's one small step above Tyson Kidd IMO, and that's not very good. And if he was that good, he wouldn't be paired with Vickie right now so that she can be the mouthpiece and heat generator. Just saying. B)I don't think he's amazing in the ring either. He's certainly upper percentile, but he's not on that "WOW" level. He's serviceable. C)Secondary titles don't mean what they used to. When Mr. Perfect, when Tito Santana, when the Honky Tonk Man held it, it meant something. This is a different age, and frankly nobody gives a rats ass over who is Intercontinental Champion, sans internet folk. Having Santino make that run in his over the top ridiculousness would be a way to respark some interest in the belt. Really, I think the only way to do so in this current environment.

The time to break Honky's record was when Orton was doing his Legend Killer gimmick. Anyone who breaks it now is just breaking it for the sake of breaking it and it would suck. This guy's got a point.

And, aside from blonde hair and using the Rocker Dropper/Fame-asser, NOTHING about Dolph reminds me of Billy Gunn. I see more of Mr. Perfect/early Shawn Michaels in him.
