I legit like the show. Though I've always been one to like animated shows and films, even when I should have "out grown them". That's one thing I kinda hate about Western society. At some point you are expected to out grow animation. It was Japan being the inverse of this that made me even love that country in the first place. I just love animation period. To the point of honestly being more excited for animated films than most kids are.... Yeah, same here. I don't get why we're expected to outgrow something just because we reach an arbitrary age. I've always loved cartoons, and still do. Some are better than anything else meant for people "my age." Add me to this list. I just have to ask this question for everyone who tells me to act my age or enjoy things that are tended for me: I'm 21 years old, what exactly IS catered to my age? Beer? - Just another thing I can drink IMO. Adult Swim/Family Guy? - So the average person my age ONLY enjoys immature sex and fart jokes, I don't think so. Violent Video Games? - Sure, I enjoy Mortal Kombat, for the FUN factor, not just because its violent, bloody, gory, and because the women have huge tits. Even if a games not violent, I can enjoy it if it holds my attention. Reality Shows? - Hahahahahahahno... And also, what happens in 10 years when I outgrow THESE things if these things are indeed intended for my age group? Go to work, come home, read the news, go to sleep, and generally be miserable but still keep my tail between my legs because that's what a "Normal Person" would do!? Sorry, angry rant again. That wasn't aimed at the askers, just people who think they can dictate someone else's life. Bottom line is, I like what I like. You don't like what I like? Too bad

Shutting off the containment grid would be like dropping a bomb in the middle of the city. Is that a.. a MOOT pony?

I had the same thoughts as most people when someone suggested I watch it... and I kept putting off actually doing so. When I did, I found it was actually pretty well written, and even being an adult there were moments that I thought were very funny. Put me down for the same. And if only... {Spoiler}

The deal is i watch animation shows (i.e Metalocalypse, South Park, Harvey Birdman, Sealab 2021, Family Guy etc...) but the 33 year old bastard that i am grew up with his female cousins watching the original show.
Fast-forward several years later and to me, it's still a show that young girls (for the most part) would watch. I've never seen the original show because i wasn't drawn to it as a kid and an adult. Seems as though, they tweeked it and made it less oriented for a specific demographic and for a wider audience instead.
At the end of the day, if that show keeps you entertained, that's the whole point. Thanks for the answers folks.

1. As to the question of "why?" It's simply a good show, with a good creative pedigree....yes it's AIMED at a 5-7 year old audience, but it's got the pacing of a "classic" cartoon but it's actually well-written and fun. It's proof that you can have a GOOD children's show without it having to be crap or simply "LOLRANDOM".
2. The shipping.....is a side efect of an older periphery demographic, as is the Fanart. It's always been a part of any fandom, but with the internet it's just a more vocal part than usual.

The person behind this incarnation really set out to make a show that wasn't really, well, girl exclusive. That was her goal, and she actually did achieve it for a lot of people to get into it.

Seeing all this creative crossover art, I demand want to see MLP/Breakfast Club. I cooked this up in my mind this morning. Twilight Sparkle is tasked with writing the detention paper to Princess Celestia.
Dear Princess Celestia, We accept the fact that we had to sacrifice a whole saturday in detention (or exile on the moon) for whatever it is we did wrong, but we think you're crazy for making us write an essay telling you who we think we are. You see us as you want to see us, in the simplest terms, in the most convenient definitions. But what we found out, is that each one of us is a brain (Twilight Sparkle), and an athlete (AJ or RD), and a basketcase (Pinkie or FS), a princess (Rarity), and a criminal (?).
Does that answer your question?
Sincerely yours,
The Breakfast Ponyville Club. MAKE IT HAPPEN INTERNET!

Talk about Rarity more! Sure. I have to say next to Fluttershy's garden of Madness, Rarity was the other major highlight of the season finale. The Cinderella bit at the end still cracks me up even to this day.

That is honestly my favorite scene so far..... Rarity's Descent into madness, RD finally calling out Fluttershy for being a coward, and the Crazy Cat lady bit. Tha one short minute or so, is just chock full of awesome.
