Would it be too much to ask to have Melina give a few minute promo on why she did what she did? I guess not because then we wouldn't have enough time for the "funny" hijinks and drawn out matches. Instead we get to hear that Natalya has a target on her because she's the divas champ. Because of course that explains everything.

WWE could fire all the "models" and hire the Shimmer roster yet still get no respect from some fans. Hiring the entire SHIMMER roster is not enough. They have to use them. All that workrate will be wasted if they don't give them promo time/segments so they can develop a personality and people get to like/hate them.

These girls looked better this week than they did at this time last year. That's all I'm saying really. I think they deserve a little credit for the progress they've made.

While I think the Tag match on Smackdown was way better, I think the future is bright. I think something WWE should strive for in their division is TNA's Knockout division when it was it's best. That needs three things: Wrestling Skill, Time, and Diversity. Of course the Divas need to know how to wrestle, that's pretty obvious. They also need time to showcase. Sorry WWE, but if you can give 5 minutes to a comedy segment, you can give the Divas AT LEAST 10-15 minutes of the show. It's the least you can do. And for Diversity, again look at Circa-2007 to 2009 Knockouts Division, where no two knockouts were the same. Awesome Kong wasn't like ODB who wasn't like Gail Kim who wasn't like Roxxi who wasn't like Taylor Wilde who wasn't like Velvet Sky who wasn't like Shelley Martinez. You need to have your fans recognize whos-who.
Except for that stuff, 2011 seems great.

I wouldn't point to Raw as an example of better diva booking. When Smackdown has over two TVs and one PPV, provided two 10 minute matches and one 12 minute main event. Granted they're in need of new blood, but with Naomi doing house shows. That problem will be solved shortly
This week is the only week I'll let Raw off the hook for a short Divas match as it was crammed with wrestling, and what talking there was was to the point and had purpose

The problem with the Divas division has never been the wrestling. I mean it's not Shimmer, but at best you'll get a suprisingly decent match and at worst you'll get hot chicks showing some impressive athleticism.
No, the problem is the characters, or lack thereof. There is no personality in the divas division. If you're a face, you smile and hang out with the other faces. If you're a heel, you scowl and hang out with the other heels. I am literally not using hyperbole there either, that IS the divas division. Once Melina turned, the first thing she did? Started scowling and walking to the ring with Alicia and Maryse, who were also scowling. If it wasn't so sad, it would be really hilarious.
It's why I enjoyed Laycool more than I should have done, it was at least a little bit of variety.

A lot of WWE is lazy tripe. Some of the Divas have improved wrestling wise but the chances for them competing for the Divas title shrunk with the retirement of the Women's title. Before WWE was forced to at least try to make some storylines for each belt but now they can get away with something involving LayCool. Kinda like how TNA was doing with the Beautiful People. Hopefully it will change this year.

They don't get respect from some fans no matter what. Not necessarily. Mickie James, Lita and Trish Stratus when they were strong babyfaces were over with the crowd. Vickie Guerrero at the other end of the spectrum, has an incredible amount of heat. These people aren't objects. If the girls are gonna go out there and stink up the joint, or do things that don't involve the crowd to some degree or another (the matches seem scripted step by step due to lack of competence, some anyway). Some of the girls in Shimmer who can go out and work better matches are better at getting a crowd into their match then a chunk of the girls in WWE. WWE itself does need to change as well, as they need to not present them as objects like they did at Wrestlemania. Sunny, for example, was an incredibly over manager who had lots of heat. But, at WM 25, she was a mere object as they wanted to send out all the women at once.

I can't help but believe that NXT Season 3 might actually have long term positive affects on women's wrestling in the WWE. The Naomi/AJ match was clearly a head turner for us fans, so I'm sure it received similar reactions backstage.
With Natalya and Beth Phoenix both healthy, Awesome Kong on the way, and AJ and Naomi likely to be called up in 2011, women's wrestling in the WWE looks very promising. In addition to them, we have Melina, LayCool, Eve and Gail Kim who can all hold their own in the ring, and The Bellas and Alicia Fox have made tremendous improvements in 2010 and seem to be dedicated to improving even more.
The only question marks I have in the women's division are Kelly Kelly, Maryse, Tamina, Rosa Mendes and Kaitlyn. Some of them may be beautiful and charasmatic, but they're certainly not doing women's wrestling any favors.

The Bellas are just not that good in the ring, and the switch thing is clearly cheating. Faces shouldn't be cheating. Is sensible booking too much to ask? Yeah, I don't understand why they're promoted as faces when that is their usual way of winning matches. I get the feeling the crowd's gonna be dead as usual when Melina/Natalya happens because there's no character development in that feud. Melina basically turned heel for the sake of turning heel, with no inclination from WWE to have her explain why she slapped Natalya or why she's tagging up with people she hated a couple weeks ago. It's still mostly the same divas division to me. My sentiments exactly. They could have at least given Melina one promo. Though, I will admit, the Divas matches have certainly become more watchable. The focus on Natalya and the return of Beth Phoenix has really made the division better (their tag match with LayCool on last week's SmackDown was really good), but the other divas are showing a bit of improvement, too.

You had naomi and AJ tear the house down on nxt3 (so far as to garner the respect of Michael Cole of all people) and then we got Kaitlin as the winner to look pretty in the background of random segments and to take Christmas photos for wwe. I'm not impressed or looking forward to how the wwe will treat the divas this year.
