More people? Do more people order PPVs than watch Raw on Monday nights? Really? More people are going to be interested in a match if it's on a big PPV than on a throwaway Raw, you'll be suprised by how many people just skip Raw these days. I worded it very wrong but that's what I was going for. Point taken -- a PPV win, especially on a major PPV (and Royal Rumble definitely qualifies) is worth about 10 times a win on Raw or Smackdown in elevating a wrestler's status. Heck, even a PPV loss done right puts someone over more than a lot of TV wins, even in the TV main event. But no question more people watch Raw on Mondays than see the PPVs.

Out of curiosity, who here has seen the Smackdown spoilers? It still doesn't help with the "Heel heavy/there are no new main event _faces_" problem.

I guess everyone should turn heel then since it's the only way anyone's going to look credible or be elevated. Newsflash WWE the majority of your fans watch to cheer and see the good guys win, name me one face who has been made to look credible or gone up the rankings into the Main Event at all this year. And no, Cena and Mysterio don't count.

It's safer to build a heel, because a heel can win through cheating and outside interference and random flukes, and this allows the established handful of guys at the top to still look like invincible super-gods who could annihilate anyone else on the roster in a fair fight.

It's ironic that people would complain about a lack of new faces, when most on here hate faces.
Seriously, people on here get a great deal of enjoyment out of seeing these young heels take down the boring, overpushed faces.
The main-events for both Raw and Smackdown at the Rumble are still fairly fresh, that's all I care about. If it was Cena vs Orton vs HHH every month, then I'd see your point.

It's not hating faces so much as being turned face equaling having everything that made the audience love you stripped away (see: John Morrison).

Not the audience, just (I'm trying not to say the IWC) smarkier fans.
And yes, having everything people liked about them being stripped away by turning face. I.E Being heel.

I don't recall the Attitude Era being anywhere near as absurd in terms of the world title scene. There were matches like UT/HBK, HBK/Austin, Austin/Foley, Austin/Kane, Austin/UT, Kane/UT, Foley/Rock, Rock/Austin, Rock/UT, Austin/HHH, Big Show/Bossman (?!), Big Show/HHH, HHH/Foley, Rock/HHH, Rock/Benoit, Rock/Angle, Angle/UT, etc. That's a lot of different match ups. HBK was gone for most of the Attitude era until after '00. Triple H likewise wasn't in the main event scene until then either. Undertaker and Foley'd pop up occasionally, yeah, but they'd never really affect anything long-term, save during the whole Ministry/Corporation nonsense.
