Very simple question. Everytime there's a cage match, it's made very clear that you can escape through the door. Yet during these matches you will often see the wrestlers ignore the door and try climbing up the cage, which is incredibly stupid when you can just walk out. I think this pushes the viewers suspension of disbelief to it's limit, which makes the match feel badly executed.
So do you think they should get rid of doors in cage matches?

If you get rid of the door, how would they get in?

I remember the Manzarek/Krieger cage match in 72 being quite impressive.

People complain about doors in cage matches, but not that finish where JBL was pulled under the ring and then crawled out. Since he was now out of the cage.......he won.

How about getting rid of the "escape the cage" stipulation all together, and have all cage matches end with a pinfall or submission? That would solve the whole door problem.

The point is that the door makes it too easy. What JBL did was take advantage of a kayfabe-wise ridiculously improbable situation (you don't see the ring breaking very often) that would have otherwise not played part in the match.

It really is illogical to climb the cage when there's a door there. It reminds me of Chief Wiggum saying "Women always have trouble with the wall. They never seem to find the door".

The door really kills suspense because it has no room for spots, only "Guy tries to walk out, but then other guy grabs him...or he just gets out."
It's really one-dimensional.

If they get rid of the door, what will Mark Henry spend 20 minutes trying to rip off?

If they get rid of the door, what will Mark Henry spend 20 minutes trying to rip off? The best part of it, easily, came down to the other wrestlers' reactions IMO. Nitro, Mercury and Rey are all writhing around on the mat, waiting out for the door to open. And of course Batista, who's standing there, laughing at him the entire time.

The point of a cage match is to keep the wrestlers in and others out so they can settle their feud.
Yet, they not only provide a door for entry/exit BUT the way to typically win the match is to.....escape the cage! to get away from the person you want to be locked in there with!
Honestly cage matches make zero sense. They should all be pin/submission only.

It's always been pointless and it makes people look a little stupid at times for trying to go over the Cage when there is a door there. I'd like to see them get rid of it.
