I've been thinking about this. We all talk about wanting Cena to turn, as he's been being a massive douche and let this Nexus thing take his toll on him, but the one question remains: how?
The big problem here that I've thought of is that there's no one for Cena to potentially turn against. If Cena attacks someone, then even so, there's a chance he'll still be cheered for it. Take say, Morrison. Even if Cena was heeling it up, would the kids or anyone still be willing to cheer for him over John Cena?
Or say, Orton. If Cena were to attack Orton, wouldn't it be confusing anyway? Cena and Orton had spent a long time feuding with Orton as the heel, and Orton as a face isn't much different anyway-- he's just fighting with heels instead of faces.
The only ones I could potentially see Cena being able to actually turn heel against would be HHH or the Undertaker, and both are potentially on their way out. So, how exactly would you turn him heel, if you could?

I think that the whole him joining Nexus thing was the perfect opportunity, but... we all know how that went.
As for now, I honestly don't know.

On Superstars against his closest friend. Yoshi.
One chairshot and we have WWE's 'third man'!

Cena is way too popular to turn heel by attacking someone. He'll get cheered, it doesn't matter who he attacks. He could recreate the Rock/Mankind chair shots with Santino's head for ten minutes and the place would blow up when he finally hit the AA through the ring.
The only way to turn him at this point is to make him turn on the fans completely like Jeff Hardy is doing over in TNA. Have him do "I'm tired of destroying myself for you people" promos and deny the crowd the whole Cena act.
However, that would probably mean losing a lot of money considering most of his "fans" are little kids who would actually quit watching if Cena stopped playing to them.
It really seems almost impossible at this point.

Have him talk in a slow monotone, give him plain trunks, no hats or any other accessories, and walk to the ring slowly, methodically... Heck, ditch his theme song, have him come out without any music.

I am at this point certain that Cena will never turn heel. It can't be done. The ONLY person he could turn on and get booed for is Rey Mysterio, and WWE won't do it.

He becomes very aware of how much the WWE needs him and he develops a huge ego. Basically something along the lines of Hollywood Rock and Douchetista.

He should save Vickie Guerrero from a Tombstone or Stone Cold Stunner.

This after ending the streak via STF tapout at Wrestlemania. Superman turns into Darkseid. He has conquered everyone, so he is clearly the God of the Universe and no longer needs the people. They need him.

In one promo he could mock and laugh at the kids and women who have supported him; saying his image has all been a scam to get their greenbacks.

I've always felt losing cleanly to the Miz is the easiest way.
Miz offers a handshake, and Cena denies it and gets on the mic making bitter jokes about there's no way he lost to "Mike The Miz." Miz goes to leave, Cena attacks him from behind, boom, heel turn.

Were Cena to turn heel, it pretty much has to be rooted in that the guy has been arguably the most moral good guy in the company, trying to do what's right, being part of the make-a-wish program... and it still wasn't good enough for certain fans.
The guy cheated less than Hogan and was more of a decent person than Austin, and yet he still was bombarded with chants of "Cena sucks" and eternally held as being pathetic in the eyes of jaded members of the WWE Universe. People still preferred the likes of Orton, HHH, or Michaels all of whom have far worse skeletons in their closet than he does. The man gave everything and in one fashion or another, it didn't matter with certain people.
I think in this scenario, you need the tempter figure, the one who more or less is able to break down Cena's barriers, ask the armor piercing question, and get him to finally just snap.
Interestingly enough, CM Punk could be an interesting fit. Punk in his feud with Cena, perhaps gradually concluding that the problem doesn't lie with John, it lies with the fans, and utilizing the strong mic abilities of Punk, trying to save Cena. Unlike with Jeff Hardy, Rey Mysterio, and others... he succeeds.

Just have him snap on a beloved face (say, Kofi or Rey or JoMo, or whatever), on a Raw and deliver him a no-holds barred (well, as "no-holds barred" as PG WWE can get, think Nexus' first attack) beat down on said face, after losing out on a Title shot to that face. Even then, I'd build it up with a slow burn instead of rushing right to the heel turn.

Turn on the fans. It's the easiest way, when you're trying to turn a big babyface or a legend.
