This story fragment about a possible CMC episode for next season floats around my head for some days and I want to share it with you:
Basically, the CMC are spending the day minding their business when they meet one of the older ponies (someone older than the Mane Cast, perhaps one might use Granny Smith in that role). They tell him/her what they are and that they bonded together to find their special talent to get their cutie marks. The older pony reminisces about how it reminds him/her how he/she used to form a similar society in his/her younger days. They were all successful eventually in finding their cutie mark but each one left after they got it and they never heard from each other again. The CMC are shocked to hear this but brush it off saying it would never happen to them.
They again try out various things to earn their cutie mark but this time, whenever they are on the verge of succeeding at it, a freak accident happens which leads to them failing the respective activity. They find it strange but declare it as simple misfortune and keep going yet the accidents occur again.
Okay, I have no idea how to do the middle part, but the last part would look like this: When put to task about these occurrences and being under pressure (perhaps in front of the mane cast), the CMC declare at the same time: "I did it!" It is revealed that each one of them was at one point responsible for one of the accidents. The motive was, of course, that they were frightened by the older pony's story that they would lose each other if they found their cutie mark. So they became desperate and sabotaged each other because they came to the realisation that they would rather not have cutie marks than lose their friendship. After a speech by one of the other ponies, they realise that just because it happened to the society of the older pony does not mean that the same thing will befall them. That whole affair showed how highly they treasure their friendship and that even after acquiring their cutie mark, they will stay friends. The CMC then tearfully hug and apologize to each other. The End.
Now, obviously I have no idea of what path to the confession should be taken. The ideas above surely have flaws as well but that is why I will never be known as a famous author or story writer because I am untalented at that.
Anyway, what are your thoughts?

I love how since he's really one of the few male characters, that he's pretty much with all of em (Even Applejack, as creepy as that sounds)

It sounds good, though I think that whatever tasks that they're doing it'd have to be stuff that is obviously not supposed to be their calling, eg Sweetie Belle and singing, otherwise it'd seem a bit malicious as it appears the CMC only ever try something the one time then dismiss it forever. The only other thing I could criticize is that it probably shouldn't be Granny Smith seen as she's related to Apple Bloom you'd think her similar group as a kid would've come up in conversation before this. Apart from that, with a bit of fleshing out, you've got a neat idea.
