What's with J. Michael Straczynski getting straddled with all these new origin stories for classic DC heroes? First Wonder Woman, now Supes? The hell?
Also, that's not hipster. I mean his Clark Kent persona sounds like a hipster, but I can deal with just Clark being a hipster, as Clark is lame anyways. This Superman? He looks a bit like Alex Mercer from Prototype.

Because when you think hipster, you think My Chemical Romance! Im the only one angry with this? "sulky'' have you ever seen My Chemical Romance now? they are nothing compared to emo or being sulky, just a lot of stereotyping to cause controversy.

I don't see anything wrong with it to be honest. He's suppose to be younger, so the super buff Clark doesn't fit at all. And he looks exactly the same, so I don't see the problem here. I like it. This is just another case of people overreacting for no reason. The new "Dante" on the other hand...*clenches fists*

I highly doubt superman doesn't remove the hoodie and stuff whilst fighting crime.

I kinda like the younger, kinda pissed off looking superman. Dante, well, thats just sad.

So, you don't read comics, but you're all bent out of shape over a comic?
Also, why is everything people don't like referred to as being "hipster"? I think most people don't even know what that really means, they just use it to label anything they don't like. There is nothing "hipster" about this.
As a matter of fact, this is just a cool cover. In the interior pages, he just looks like normal old Superman.

That is the 2nd most idiotic Superman design I've ever seen, just after that weird "blue electricity" redesign thing in the 90's.

How could you even hate or like this? Unless I'm missing something, there's only that one picture, in which the suit seems to be exactly the same, he's just wearing a shirt and a hoodie over it. All we have to go on in that explanation provided. So...yeah. I'm not seeing what the big deal is yet. Same feelings here. At "worst" it reminds me of Small ville in which Clark wore Superman-colored casual clothes.

I stopped read when I got to the first mention of J. Michael Straczynski. SOLD!... and I really am not all that fond of comics. I'm at a loss when I think of any comic book that he's written that hasn't been excellent. The only things that even come close are a few editorially mandated issues of Amazing Spider-Man, and he (allegedly) asked that his name be removed from those. This is a story that JMS wanted to write. And if JMS wanted to write a story about Superman being a 65 year old sexually confused Asian housewife who doesn't leave the kitchen during the entire length of the 120 page large-format graphic novel, it would STILL be worth the price of admission. That Yahoo article was so completely off the mark, it's laughable. And I'll bet it WILL be laughed at by the major comic sites and by DC itself.

I noticed that a new one hadn't been made in a while, so I figured this would be as good a topic as any to get it started.

This isn't a new series or anything like that, it's a story about Superman, set on Earth 1, one of the DC multiverse Earths. It will have no bearing on the current DC Superman (which is getting critically loved, but fandom panned) story, just has a writer in common. As has been said, this story looks at Superman and his cast from the point of view of 'what if Superman was 21 today, wasn't a hero, didnt really want to be one and was in a world where there wasnt super powered people every where.' The full cover image reveals all he is is a young guy in a hoody, looking like just about everyone else. It's isn't Superman for Twillight fans any more than pre-marriage to Lois Superman was. If anything, it's Smallville, with a slightly darker tone and less Lana.

Since this is now the comic book thread, everyone needs to go out and buy a copy of the Beasts of Burden/Hellboy crossover that comes out today.
Mike Mignola + Evan Dorkin + Jill Thompson=WIN.

Since this is the official comic book thread now, I guess this is a good place to revisit the question I asked a few days ago:
Am I crazy, or is the whole "Return of Bruce Wayne" thing DC is doing a complete carbon copy of almost everything that Marvel did to bring Captain America back to life a year ago? Right down to them both being "lost in time", and returning in stealth suits to observe their replacements.

Pretty much, although I have to say that I'm enjoying the Batman one a bit more. It's a nice little showcase of his cast and it isnt tied down to Morrison's insanely complicated stuff.
Also talking DC, anyone planning to pick up JSA 44 this week, with a new team on board and spearheaded by writer marc Guggenheim.......DONT. It is utter garbage.

that's too bad to hear. I was hoping that it'd be a step up from Willingham (seriously, he turned them into Team America without any of the satire). that title is beginning to look like one of those titles like Runaways where it's only good as long as the iconic writer is handling it.
if you don't mind my asking, though, why is it bad?
