Anyone else reading the Chaos War stuff? So far, I'm feeling underwhelmed by it. The only saving grace to me is the heavy Avengers focus. The inclusion of Sersi in particular was a nice surprise, though I prefer her red costume to the green one.

that's too bad to hear. I was hoping that it'd be a step up from Willingham (seriously, he turned them into Team America without any of the satire). that title is beginning to look like one of those titles like Runaways where it's only good as long as the iconic writer is handling it. if you don't mind my asking, though, why is it bad? {Spoiler}The new big bad is random and over powered to the extreme. He can take full shots from everyone and still keeps coming, but has never been met before (as far as I know) and is, suppossedly, a super powered terrorist, which is just an excuse to take some veiled shots at how evil terrorists are in the simplist terms. The story starts with Jay becoming Mayor of a city that later gets destroyed, and him deciding to retire again. Mr T is losing his intelligence and getting grumpy but instead of feeling sorry for him, he is written more like a jerk, Dr Fate is swatted aside like nothing and Alan Scott, the guy who just in the last issue spent the whole book explaining how with the Starheart now on the Moon he was more powerful than he had ever been gets his neck snapped in a two panal fight. The big bad is then taken down by the rookie female black lightning whose never shown anywhere near that level of power before.
To me, it seems like an attempt to change the team status quo and shed some old characters (you know, the actual guys who are the JSA) in order to give more time to new ones, but executed so poorly it made me want to drop the book, and I've been reading since issue 1.
And for the record, I quite liked Willingham's future Nazi story, but then I tend to enjoy evil alt. future stuff like that.

Mart's comic book review. I'm here again Crapppppers!!! For the new books I try to talk them up the best I can without giving away any spoilers, just in case you yourself want to buy these issues. Here's what I got for $20 and here's what I thought. NEWCaptain America #611 Thoughly enjoyed myself. This is the start of The Trail of Captain America. Bucky Barnes, the current Cap, is being sought after for war crimes when it's discovered by the U.S. government that he was the Winter Soldier. Steve Rogers is in Bucky's corner but not everyone is. This issue at times comes off as a real television News story. One bit I really like is when Cap beats up a whole congregation of nazi skinheads. Myself being someone who grew up real old-school Punk and squared off amount of times with ignorant scum like this made me smile from ear to back of my head. Great action panels, after this bust up Steve Rogers meets with Bucky to discuss what should Cap do. Is there a stand off, a disappearance or does one turn himself into the authorities? You'll have to grab this up to find out. There's also a short toon about some spy adventure featuring Nomad and the Black Widow. I'm definitely following this run. I likey very much. worth it and more. Legion of Super-Heroes #6 WHAT bloody Crap@!!@@@11 The last issue ends with Earth Man and Shadow Lass partially nude in bed together and it seems like such a big no-no because Earth Man been acting like such a raunchy douche bag to the rest of the LoSH but in the next issue it's like it's no big deal. Even the front cover makes it seem like it's a BIG spat, I guess sex sells Eh? What in the world! Just a little reminder for Shadow Lass to not to fall hard for edgy little Earth Man. There's also romance for Ultra-Boy too (but I won't say who with) yet that's no huge deal either. The book ends with Earth-Man saying he'll stay loyal with LoSH but then threatens Brainiac 5 for a new power ring. The end. Yes, the end of me buying LoSH. There also a short story that continues next issue with Cosmic Boy and Duplicate Girl leading a new class of the Legion Academy, the future heroes of the united planets where they complete their first mission, then it's on to their next mission to protect the United Planets Council. It's very well drawn and the stories not bad but not great either. The book ends with one page telling all by Matter-Eater Lad(worst name ever!) in a very much breaking the forth wall kind of way that you the reader can vote for the new Legion leader. You can do it by going to LegionElection.com Do it by November 10th. Screw with this elective for sure. P.S. ---> this is already going to the loose pile because I was wiping off my table at home I accindently sprayed all-purpose cleaner on the front cover of the comic and now there's all these white worn out spots on there. This might not even be worth 50 cents! Fantastic Four #584 This is a touching story.... well it starts that way. The Thing takes a potion that turns him back to normal everyday Ben Grimm for a week and him and JohNNy Storm go off and enjoy everyday activities that Ben Grimm as The Thing hasn't been able to do for along time. They even lay a smack down on the Yancy Street gang and the gang's nothing like you'd think they be. Sue Richards is selected to be an envoy in negotiations with Prince Namor the Sub-Mariner and Tribes of Old Atlantis. When Sue meets Namor he doesn't seem so friendly, there's something off about him, I can't place it but I'd feel worried, lastly Reed Richards is looking through a telescope at a space anomaly he's calling the Fault(the Fault s the one in Thanos Imperative yum yum get the F4 involved, sure go for it) when he gets a visit with an angry Silver Surfer. Silver Surfer angry at Mr. Fantastic? It seems so and it's all about Galactus. See book for reason why. This was a good primer for the next coming issue. I'm buying because I WANT to know and it has me wondering which of the FF will be no more in two more monthes. Now from the loose pile: X-Men Spotlight on ..... Starjammers #1 and #2 (1990) Oh lucky day! I'm huge into cosmic Marvel characters. I leaped in the air when I saw these two ishes just discounted in the pile. Both books come with wrap around covers. In the first book the Starjammer along with Professor Xavier and Lilandra of the Shi'Ar stay on board while the Starjammer are split up to go attain separate energy pods where when they come together make a map to where they can find the Shi'Ar fabled Phalkon. All the these galactic freebooters have incredible adventures. In the second book I just got reading but there's twists and turns and fights aplenty with the Shi'ar Imperial Guard. I am in total bliss. And for alittle more than a dollar plus taxes. Plus no advertisements. Best deal I've EVER had! Web of Spider-Man #11 (February 1986) Spider-man in his black and white outfit is on the cover but he's in the red and blue costume the whole time. Infact this comic book features Peter Parker mostly with him having troubles with a street gang bullying him (they puts rats in his refridgerator, Now that's mean!). In this book Mary Jane Watson also knows that Parker is Spider-Man and she's the only one who knows. The two are split up which makes things odd. The street gang tears up Peter's whole apartment and Peter dresses up as Spider-Man and kicks their asses good but that only results in the street gang now setting Peter's apartment room on fire and there's where the book ends. I'm curious to what happens so I'll be on the look out for Web of S-M #12. Cool Advertisements for Care Bears, Go Bots cartoon, the Jetsons, something called Galtar and the Golden Lance, G.I. Joe and Transformers on videocassette and the Secret Wars II series. DC Challenge #2 (1985) A very confusing book but that's why it's a challenge and called that so. It seems you have to piece together all these bizarre seemily non-sensical stories and try to figure out where the ending is going. Are you game? Looks like not many were because I don't think DC has tried this again and it most certainly wouldn't have been in the loose bin, there was issues after issues of them! In Challenge #2(not shown above, different issue #) You have Bat-Man saving Gothom but blacking out half the city, Jonah Hex retrieving a glowing blue rock that transports him to some sleazy big city in 1985 which is very comicial, Super Man gets raw with the Mongul on the Moon's surface, Aqua Man looks like a goner stuck in the desert and lastly Congorilla and B'Wana Beast fight The Manticore at the famed San Diego Zoo. Cool advertisements for: Oreo cookies with a maze to a glass of milk, Fig Newtons, Saturday Morning cartoons on NBC, Glow in the Dark Posters and Hulk Hogan's Rock'n'Wrestling on CBS. This book just shifts and shifts right and left and back and forth and leaves you going upside down and as much as I love chaos let's get off this crazy ride. This is the kind of f***ed up that isn't really good!??!1/ WOWWERS!!!!! The H.A.R.D. Corps #7 (June 1993) This from Valiant Comics freekin' ROCKS!!!! Tons of alien green guts flying everywhere. Great action fighting. The drawings remind me of the last scene in the 1980's first Heavy Metal movie(you should see it). There's this combat group with special powers when ordered from some main command post by way of something like a cell phone and they are fighting against aliens who want to take over and destory the Earth. If the blood was red instead of green this would be an adults only comic book. Great stuff that did not get noticed. No advertisement of great note but who cares I'm picking up another of these. YES!!!!!

Seriously, Grant Morrison has totally destroyed the character of Batman. I realize that someday another writer will come along and change everything back to normal, but it sucks that I haven't wanted to read the adventures of my favorite superhero in years now thanks to what they've done with him.
What happened to Bruce Wayne, who solves mysteries and beats up street thugs, mobsters, and lunatics, while having occasional fights with supervillains while teaming with the Justice League?
I can understand reinventing/updating things that have potential but are stale, but Batman is one of the few things in the world of entertainment that doesn't need it. There's a million things you can do with the character without changing the basic concept. As long as he stays in character, you can put him in any given situation and it works, whether he's fighting a purse snatcher or an alien supervillain.
Why on Earth are they doing this? Why can't Batman just be Batman?

Grant Morrison is responsible for me canceling my subscription to Batman, which I'd maintained since the age of 5.

I like it in concept, because all of the variant Batmen and Spider-Man toys I had always represented ones from other cities and countries, including the obligatory one that represents me. It's why I also kind of give the Clone Saga a pass.

And change for the sake of change isn't always good. I think Morrison's a drug-addled weirdo, and Dan DiDio is a clueless buffoon who will let any supposed hotshot writer do whatever they want.

I haven't followed the comics in years. What exactly led to this event? Grant Morrison was given complete control over Batman by Dan DiDio, and he used said control to make the universe an incredible mess. In a nutshell, he "killed" Batman (which was actually just Bruce Wayne being stranded in time by Darkseid), he finally made his way back to the present, and now instead of just resuming his role as Batman, they're doing what you just read in the original post.

the thing that I don't like is that we're seeing all the aftermath of Bruce's return but the miniseries bringing him back hasn't wrapped up yet. Kind of takes the drama out of the conclusion.......
