Yeah, I picked up the latest Flash just today. Probably my favourite since Johns restarted it.
Thorn is a great, great villain. Probably, as Guy says, my favourite right now. Looking forward to Flashpoint more.

Hello Crappers! It's Mart's Comics Review! For those who have never read my reviews I pretty much recount my day going out in my city to buy comics. Luckly for me in my city all the good (and not so good) comic book stores are all in a short walking distance from each other. I try my best to do my reviews without giving away spoilers when it comes to the newer present day comics. This time I had 21 bucks. Let's GO! Captain America: Hail Hydra #1 (1 of 5 series) Here I went to the old hippie millionaire's bookstore again. Cap, Bucky and a spy woman called Frau Lohn are in Germany in 1944 with World War II winding down. They all charge into a castle filled with what the three assume are Nazis. Alots of good action panels here. They are surprised to find they are up against quite a tough Hydra enemy. The book I'd say is well drawn, you get much of what you like best about the Captain America character, the main villians look impressively sinister, strong and threatening. The issue ends with yourself not at all knowing who Cap and Bucky should trust. You get the impression that Steve Rogers and friends better watch their backs. I'd say I'm intrigued to read #2 of the series. Satisfied. Looks as if the original Avengers (minus the Hulk) and other Marvel friends will be in upcoming issues. Green Lantern/Plastic Man: Weapons of Mass Deception #1 (one-shot)  So I just finished doing a student report on a Michael Moore "let's bash the oil industry, all conservative Americans and how screwed our world has become" book and quite frankly I'm depressed and sick of it all. To the point I never want to hear the names Bush or bin Laden ever again. So cheer up school boy! Let's read this book instead! A good amount of variety here with comedy, adventure and even seriousness as they fowl up the plans of these duck looking space aliens. P-Man is of course really funny through out even when he's being tortured and Hal Jordan plays the noble hero as ever. The best part I like about this one-shot is a realization GL makes about PM that I feel bring the two heroes closer together. If you love Green Lantern buddy stories then this be awesome for your comic collection. No complaints on the slick drawings either! Now I'm a happy Grover! The Thanos Imperative: Devastation #1 (one-shot) Well let's keep up with one-shots. This one for most of it is written in the viewpoint of Cosmo the dog. If words ending with G spelt instead with a letter K doesn't make your reading flow then I think this would be best to pass on. The Inhumans have trouble with a likely heel-turned Blastarr so Cosmo goes around the space universe collecting Ronan the Accuser, Quasar, Silver Surfer, Beta Ray Bill and Gladiator Kallark. Good thing he did that because they all arrive just in time to get things settled. Then all the saving the day action starts. The drawings are very good except I haven't enjoyed the way Silver Surfer is drawn for a swell number of years. This book accomplishes 3 objectives 1) To catch readers up on what has happened lately in the cosmic Marvel storylines. 2) to gather a new and hella powerful superhero team that will be called The Annihilators and 3) introduce a new character who looks like a female version of ROM the Spaceknight. If you're looking for cosmic Marvel then picking up Annihilators is what to do. In Annihilators is also where you can find mini-stories based on Rocket Racoon and Groot as well. This looks like it's going to kick ass!  And now for the loose pile....... OK I felt like doing an art project so I bought a gigantic amount for extra stuff to cut up and use with my paintings. I'm not going to review every single 25 cent comic I got. These issues have made the ultimate sacrifice for my art. That's my art! Dammit!!! Justice League of America #194 (September 1981)  Cover has a coffee cup stain on it. People loving the occult will dig this one as it deals with tarot cards as Amos Fortune captures all the team members using hallucinations. The JLA end up fighting Death which looks like Ghost Rider on a muscled out horse. Cool retro ads are Darda Demon model cars, Wonder Woman for Hostess Twinkies Cakes, Life Savers candy sleeping bag, ICEE Bear Club write-in prizes and in theatres everywhere Superman II. ROM #65 (April 1986)  Huge battle with Dire Wraithes and it really looks like ROM is biting the bisciut here, you feel bad for him even though he's a robot, but all of the sudden all the other marvel superheroes from all across the world show up and save his metallic ass. Excellent action and superly coloured panels as you get this feel good moment knowing the Earth has been saved from those slimey Dire Wraithes. WHEW! That was a close one! A What If book was made from this issue. Old ads for Fig Newton Cookies maze, Power Pack and Spider-Man on tips to prevent sexual abuse, Cloak and Dagger, Rocket Racoon and Star Comics.  Action Comics Weekly #604 (July 1988)  Someone stabbed this comic. There's cut marks on the front cover and going through the book. Yikes! Action Comics temporary changed it name and gave you a bunch of different characters to read. Featured here is Deadman, Secret Six(very psychodelic drawings), Blackhawk, Green Lantern(John Stewart kills Carol Ferris or so you first think), Superman and one of my most favourite most over looked characters of all time ---> Wild Dog. Marvel should buy off Wild Dog from DC. I'd love to see how WD would fit with street characters like DareDevil or Spider-Man. All the stories continue the next issue so you would have had to come back to the comic book store the next week to know what happens next.  Avengers Spotlight #23 (October 1989)  Faded cover. I laughed lot reading this. Hawkeye battles minor villians Bobcat and Mad Dog disposing them will tear gas arrows. You think that's the end of the comic. Gee, what a rip off! But then these evil circus themed bad guys show up led by Trick-Shot. Hawkeye looks to be in big trouble and the story continues next issue. The 2nd story in the ish is worth a thousand quarters (well, not really) Vision is in his brand new all white costume and is having problem with the local police not identifying him correctly so Vision goes on legendary Johnny Carson's TV talk show as a surprise guest in an attempt to make Los Angeles and the rest of the world aware of his costume change. Pee Wee Herman is seated right beside Vision. Hilirious interaction! Comic ends with the West Coast Avengers making major knee slappin' fun of poor Vision. I don't think I'll cut this book up! It's a keeper! Be out there enjoying comic books where ever you are. See you next time! |

-Green Lantern/Plastic Man sounds awesome. Might have to pick that up. I dig Plas. -That WHAT IF cover for ROM is a fake. The issue number shown on it is #39, but What If #39 is "What If the Watcher Saved the Universe?" www.mycomicshop.com/search?q=what+if+39&pubid=&PubRng=-I also LOVE Wild Dog! He was my Halloween costume this past October. And the only friend of mine that got the costume was a buddy I was planning to cast as Wild Dog in a fan-film I was gonna make. But anyway, sometime this past year I went and bought all of the issues of Action Comics (Weekly) that he appeared in. Fun times. -I own that Avengers Spotlight issue, too. Been a while since I read it, but I enjoyed it a lot. A lot of the comics I buy (not counting characters I really love) are because of the "WTF?!" cover images like that one. |

Mart's ComicBook review! Here's my latest experiences getting my comic books. I try to do those reiews without giving away spoilers. On my quest for Fantastic Four #587 all the stores downtown have the issue sold out so I jumped a bus to the suburbs I went. This led me to this glossy comic book store where there's more dolls, T-shirts or statues than there are comic books. Although the store has every new comic book put out there you will pay the extra for it. This place really has this corporate big business feel to it. I'll give them the respect that it's an awesome showcase of a large room they have and no matter what you want, they have it (at an inflated price because they can). Back to the gritty city with me. I hate the suburbs anyways. OK this time $25. Go!! Fantastic Four #587[/u]  The Four go out on top! This issue makes you guess to the end, very emotionally drawn to impact on the death of one of the original Fantastic Four and makes you think what does this lead the other FF members to do. You actually don't completely see the death of whatever FF member I'm trying not to mention. You assume that it's too much to fight against therefor death it must be. #587 comes with the rare poly-bag (pictured above, in black, with front cover). I also bought FF #583 to see how this story arc started. I didn't like it. Had alot to do with Reed and Sue Richards' daughter making a visit to Doctor Doom because the little daughter feels Doom can help out her Father. Later in #583 the daughter lies to her father Reed by cutely saying "Nothing much happened while you we're gone." Bulls***! Could this be foreshadowing for the last FF issue #588? What If? Iron Man: Demon In an Armor #1Speaking of Doctor Doom.... This one centers around, at first, Reed Richards and Victor Von Doom's college dorm days but with the Tony Stark character replacing Reed Richards of course. The experiment that got Von Doom expelled from university is done differently and it makes total sense. Ater that the story separates from the classic 616 Marvel universe. It's really surreal seeing Doctor Doom, in red and gold, as the virtious good guy and Iron Man, in green and silver, as the devious villian. The fight scene at the mid to end of the story has cool offense in it and the last two panels will blow you away by just what is being written there esspecially if you're a long time Dr. Doom fan. I picked this What If? on a total whim and I'm glad I did. This is a keeper. The rest of the book is "What if Venom possessed Deadpool?" Which is a complete gag fest. If you love 1980's Marvel themes then you will laugh your head clean off for this story.  Detective Comics #873  I didn't like this much. Unsure who's the major villian that Dick Grayson Batman is contending with. Grayson's been gassed quite heavily and goes into scary hallicinations. I really don't like the way Batman is drawn in his airflight armor suit(?). There's something that looks really amateurish about it. The baddie Batman beats up looks really weird. The rest of the book is Alfred the bulter talking to Dick Grayson as Grayson stares off saying nothing..... End the book is a sneak preview for DC Universe Online Legends #1 and it looks as if Lex Luthor has gotten himself and the rest of the world in some deep poop with Brainiac. This book is going for the loose biin quick because there's smudgged finger prints on it due to me not caring much at all and leaving #673 on my apartment floor. I might as well just put out a cigarette on the damn book! And now from the loose pile..... Let's save some money!!! NFL SuperPro: Special Edition #1 September 1991.  With football championship being on the weekend menu I thought I'd check out SuperPro. This is terrible! In it SuperPro tries to stop an illegal steriod racket. You'll see the steriods are negatively affecting a nice-guy-gone-mean defensive player from the Chicago Bears. The player goes out of control and SuperPro fights him off to the death and in the process makes the big steriod bust. Midway through this comic you found out the origin story to SuperPro. Did you know if you are wrapped up in historic football game film while surrounded by gasoline fire, then you have experimental chemical plastics rain down on you and after that you put on a specially made football uniform that you, yourself, can become a superhero? Maybe something like that would work for my NHL Hockey superhero idea? Sure! I'll try that on someone else. . . . . . .yeah. . . Doctor Strange #4 October 1974  How was I to find such an old comic book for only 25 cents? Well when you take a comic book and put it in a pudlde of mud and stomp on it, it can definitely ruin the resale on most anything published. I don't care I want to read it anyways. Doctor Stange fights Death (not Thanos' Death). This gets pretty philosophical as Eternity enters the picture. Stange actually dies in order to defeat the powers of Death. Pretty cool looking drawings here. I didn't fully get it but I ran into a very esoteric friend of mine (he doesn't know a thing about comic books BTW) and he raved about this as he read it to others around him. He's always drinking coffee at the local neighbourhood cafe so I'm going to give it to him for nothing. Interesting retro adverts are for Big Jim's Kung Fu and Sports Action Sweepstakes, win yourself action figures and sports equipment gear, Karate master in 24 hours, Flip-O-Baseball with Flip-O-Baseball cards, Marvel-Hero stick-ons wall stickers, Nazi german helmuts and patches from Adolf's in Minneapolis(WHAT!!!! How not PC!!), hypnotize people with any TV set classes, and lastly fake moustaches and sideburns for a more sexy romantic look. Gawd Darn! I love 70's comic books just for their ads alone!!!!! Bruce Wayne: Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. #1 April 1997. With Batman Incorporated happening in the DC Universe I thought I'd take a look at this book put out by Amalgam Comics. This is like a Marvel/DC universe if it collided and become something else. The only character that's regular from elsewhere is Nick Fury. Bruce Wayne is so cocky in this and it infuriates Fury alot. Tony Starks in this too but he's confined to a wheelchair. Huntress completely looks like Bat-Girl, Moon Wing (wich looks just like Moon Knight, pictured below) almost gets killed in the first issue. Excellently drawn with good fight scenes and explosions going off everywhere. Exciting book.  Atari Force #2 February 1984.  Just alittle on this one. It wasn't too bad. Cosmic war action right from the get go. Two of the main charcters have a hard knocks love affair which is interesting. The villian seemed unbeatable but was taken to task by the end of it all. The rest of the issue is character profiles of the Atari Force. I geniunely felt entertained reading this failed discontinueed title. I would have given this a couple of spins on other ishes. Retro ads for video games Advanced Dungeons & Dragons, Power Lords(ever see the action figures? Quite odd lookin'), Return of the Jedi Death Star Battle and Q Bert, Columbia Muscle Frame Race Bikes and Sgt. Rock Toy vechicles and weapons from Remco. Okay, so I FINALLY managed to get my hands on a copy of Dead Avengers, albeit the last issue in the series. And, while I really liked it (even if I was rather lost), I have one big question about the ending.
Are Swordsman I and Yellowjacket II alive now, with a good chance of sticking around after this Chaos War stuff is over?

Haven't had much time, or money, for comics, recently. I'm hoping to get back in, as soon as I visit my local store soon. Hope The spirit series is still going, and hope to check out Deadpool again.
However, on something I just found out, MARVEL is coming out with another "epic event" series? Fear Itself? God.....dammit!

Out of curiosity, have they addressed the relationship that Vision has to characters like Scarlet Witch, Wiccan, and Speed in CC? Or... anywhere, for that matter?
