HBK is obviously deserved but hearing him announced wasn't much of a mark out moment for me. Many times when I watch a HOF video when they announce the induction, I get cold chills of sorts and really mark out. This time, it was just "eh". I guess he is still fresh and still seems like just one of Vince's boys.
I think they are pushing him as "the greatest superstar of all time" pretty hard lately. He was #1 on the 50 Greatest Superstars dvd and Lawler was saying "greatest superstar of all time." I like HBK but is he really that?

I think they are pushing him as "the greatest superstar of all time" pretty hard lately. He was #1 on the 50 Greatest Superstars dvd and Lawler was saying "greatest superstar of all time." I like HBK but is he really that? Michaels is easily one of my two favorite wrestlers of all time, and one of the guys most responsible for making me a fan, but I'd still say that HBK doesn't live up to that billing. But I don't think it's nepotism, or WWE trying to snub anyone else, or even management having fooled themselves. I think they have a specific character they've been looking for a wrestler to play for a very long time, and Shawn is finally the perfect candidate for the part. There's a quote from Paul Heyman about Ric Flair from a few years ago, let me see... www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/wrestling/heyman/1596414/Paul-Heyman-says-Ric-Flair-deserves-better.html...for whatever reason, this stuck with me and came to mind right after Shawn's retirement speech. McMahon had finally found his beloved veteran elder statesman. Michaels is a big enough star to command some degree of name recognition, but not enough to even attempt to abandon wrestling for a career in movies or reality TV or wherever. He's stuck with the company through enough ups and downs that it's safe to say he's not going to take any offers from TNA or other aspiring competitors. He's had a long enough career that multiple generations of fans are familiar with him. And he's a talented enough performer that he has unquestionably earned a tremendous amount of respect from both his peers and the fans, in spite of his well-documented backstage attitude issues. All that together, HBK may not be anywhere near as big a star as Hogan or Austin, but he makes a better choice for WWE to point to when they want to bring out an acclaimed veteran to call the "greatest of all time".

I also think this eliminates the "WCW Theme" rumor that's been circulating for months. There are plenty of WCW wrestlers that could headline that class, and Shawn Michaels has had absolutely nothing to do with WCW ever. Some WCW names might be inducted this year, but it's not going to be WCW "themed". Not really. Flair went in in Fla. in 2008 as the headliner and he had very little to do with Fla., while the rest of the HOF was very Fla. centered. Flair actually did have significant ties to Florida during the Territory days. Sure, the bulk of his career was made elsewhere, but his work in Florida wasn't insignificant. HBK, on the other hand, had absolutely NO ties to WCW whatsoever. You can go ahead and say Arn is a lock for the HOF this year. No, you can't. You can say Arn deserves to be inducted this year, and I'll agree with you. But nobody is a lock until it's officially announced. Remember -- career accomplishments mean nothing and unlike other halls of fame, there is no set timetable or set of qualifications one must meet for induction; they only qualification to get into the WWE HOF is "Because Vince feels like inducting you". Arn might get in this year. He might get in in 5 years. But until the day it's announced, it's not a "lock".

I'm going to try to attend this... haven't been to the Phillips Arena in 5 years, last time for a Nine Inch Nails concert.
Oh yeah, Shawn Michaels is my favorite wrestler so the deal is pretty much already sealed for me, if I can get a ticket.

Im not good at making up rumors. Shawn is deserved. Cant complain, but Id rather have it been another year for him. Its all good though. The way they were hyping this, it seemed like it would be someone who hasnt been on WWE TV in more than a year. Well, Shawn hasn't been on in 9 months.....

I like the idea of HBK in the hall of fame and there were just rumors with it being WCW themed. But if it is I think Ron Simmons, Arn Anderson, Sting (pipe dream) and maybe Rick Stiener. The celeb could be Robocop haha just kidding.

Awesome moment for me seeing HBK come back out. Wish he had said something, but the video package was great.

If they do make the rest of the HOF Georgia-themed, I'd like to see them induct Jake Roberts, Ron Simmons, and the Big Bossman. I think that would make a good class of '11.

Shawn being in the Hall of Fame bodes well for me. That means he'll be in town for WrestleMania weekend, which means he'll (hopefully) be at Axxess. Do the Hall of Famers usually sign autographs? I would love to show him the autograph he gave me in 1995 and see if he remembers me. I'm sure his reaction will be "who the heck are you?" but still, meeting him again would be very cool.

Kind of a let down........... Don't get me wrong, I like Shawn.............but it seemed as if they were hyping up someone who deserved it for a long time. Yeah, the way they were hyping it up made me think it was going to be Sting or Savage. And if either one of them does get in this year, they should be the headliner. Sting because it's in Georgia and he's Mr WCW. And Savage because really he's a bigger star than HBK.

I knew it was Shawn from when Lawler said "possible the greatest of all time." Reason why is becuase WWE recently released a DVD and named him the #1 Greatest wrestler of all time.
Anyway, I said last night while Del Rio was coming out "Shawn Michaels is in a WWE ring." He only retired 10 months ago and it's seems like forever.
Seeing Shawn on RAW made me realize how much I miss him.
Great ot see Shawn in the Hall of Fame.
Hopefully there's more big names to come. If I see Goldberg I'm marking out.

2/3 of that list isn't getting in anytime in the forseeable future. Even if they could, that'd be a pretty unrealistic list because they have to space out their big-name inductees a bit. Really, really big load to put on one class. If they put everyone possible in who should be in one class, they wouldn't have anyone the next year. Bruno, Savage, and Owen are admittedly pipe dreams, but all the others have a fair shot. I don't see why Jake can't get in, as long as he's sober for the actual induction ceremony, and I can see WWE sending someone to babysit him for Wrestlemania weekend exactly for that purpose. Backlund is long past due, Vader is a shot if they're doing WCW, and Pillman is the customary late superstar. I was referring to Bruno, Savage, Owen and Backlund, because I recall reading something about how Backlund refused to go in because he didn't like the celebrity wings or something like that.
