As far as I know, there were two different Kane figures with removable masks made prior to the character actually unmasking on WWE TV.
One was from the Ripped and Ruthless series, and if you took his mask off, there was a face similar to Undertaker's except for a marking on his temple that looked like a decal or something. Made no sense since he was said to be burned up, too.
The other was from the Maximum Sweat line (I think) and that figure actually featured a burned up face, yet it still resembled Undertaker.
My question is: why did they bother with the masks? I don't own them, but best as I can tell, the R+R Kane doesn't simply reuse the mold from the UT's head, so why sculpt an entire face to cover with a mask when the character probably wasn't intended to unmask back then?

I always thought the Ripped and Ruthless one resembled Gleen Jacobs alittle bit

There was also one where Undertaker was under the mask from the angle where Undertaker posed as Kane.

I think it was a clever thing by Jakks, cause even though I knew what Glen looked like really I still wanted to get the figure to see what it was like.

Selling point. I bought the Maximum Sweat Kane just to see what he looked like without the mask. It was pretty nasty, actually. I didn't expect that.

Similar, but non-wrestling related, does anyone remember the removable mask Destro figure from GI Joe? That was pretty cool.

The Maximum Sweat figure. It would have been REALLY cool for Kane's unmasking angle to have been a one-time deal with him looking something like this picture. Tom Savini could do it. He's a wrestling fan as well, from what I understand.

He's a wrestling fan as well, from what I understand. It'd be kind of wonky, though. "Alright guys, I know I'm supposed to be unmasked... Uhh, be back in 4 hours." If he wrestled with prosthetics, they'd fall off or get stuck to the mask from sweat.

i still have my Kane action figure. i was a huge Kane mark and it was the first figure they released of him. it was the one where you take off the mask and he has a scar on his forehead and looks like the Undertaker kinda.
looked way badass with the mask on tho.

The Maximum Sweat figure. Holy s***, that toy is scary as hell. Believe me, I was at my friend's house at night the first time he showed me Kane's face. It was freakier in person, especially when you don't expect it and are 9-10 years old, lol.
