Nice job, TR. I never did get around to re-watching BASKET CASE 3. I will eventually. But I do remember from my previous watching feeling pretty "meh" on the experience.

Appreciate the comments on the review, MD and DSR. Also, a Crow reboot? Really? Really? The whole thing might not suck, per se, but I find it amusing that they point out that it's a gritty reboot. Wasn't the original pretty damn gritty to begin with? Talk about unnecessary.

I like how it goes "The film is known for..." and lists off things that aren't "Brandon Lee dying." Because, no matter how breakthrough-ish the visual style of that movie is...I don't recall that being the conversation piece about it.
Then again, that would probably be a downer for a press release.

I for welcome a new Crow movie.
We've had so many sub-par DTDVD sequels that it will be nice to get a fresh start.

I'd be interested to read the Third Chapter, but other than that, I honestly don't care all that much.

It was announced last night that Bill Hinzman, the first George Romero Zombie, passed at the age of 76.
He also directed and starred in a zombie film of his own, called Flesheater.

If there's any angels named Barbara up in Heaven...he's coming to get you! RIP Bill Hinzman.
TALES FROM THE CRYPT PRESENTS: RITUAL (2001) - Made in 2001, supposedly released somewhere in the world without the Crypt Keeper footage before finally getting a DVD release (with said Keeper footage re-instated) in 2006. At any rate, it's a remake of the Val Lewton classic I WALKED WITH A ZOMBIE.
After getting her medical license revoked, Dr. Alice Dodgson (Jennifer Grey, of DIRTY DANCING and getting-a-nosejob-that-kinda-killed-her-career fame) is desperate for work. She eventually stumbles upon a job in Jamaica. She's hired by a man named Paul Claybourne (Craig Sheffer, of NIGHTBREED and HELLRAISER: INFERNO), to care for his brother, Wesley. Wesley suffers from a rare life-threatening disease, as well as hallucinations that lead him to believe local voodoo practitioners are messing with his mind.
In between visits with her patient, Dr. Dodgson soaks up the culture of Jamaica, feels alienated as she's living in a land of strangers, and starts to have nightmares. Eventually Alice learns that she has been given the same disease that her patient Wesley suffers from. She'll get some help from an unlikely source, a veterinarian (Tim Curry, of being Tim "I'm pretty damn awesome" Curry). Still, Alice finds herself caught in a web of deceit, trying to figure out who's responsible for her and Wesley's conditions, and why. Complicating matters is the possibility that the good doctor is in love with her patient.
If you're a fan of "Tales from the Crypt" there's a lot of fun stuff to be found in this flick: plenty of scantily clad women (including some shots of Jennifer Grey's pretty little butt in tight panties); a wonderfully grotesque death scene where a man hallucinates that he's being burned alive; a bit of over-the-top hammy acting (mostly from Daniel Lapaine, who plays Wesley Claybourne); and the expected corny jokes in the intro by our pal the Crypt Keeper (here sporting dreadlocks and a Jamaican accent).
Something new to "The Crypt" is some really crappy-looking CGI, practically like something out of a Playstation 1 game. And, while the sights and sounds of Jamaica are rather enjoyable, the film ends up with a languid pace, feeling longer than it actually is. And the ending wasn't nearly as exciting as it could have been.
3 stars out of 5. An okay flick, but nothing spectacular. And considering it's the last thing released in the "Tales from the Crypt" franchise, it's a bit more of a letdown. I really would love the series to get a revival one of these days.

All three of those Tales from the Crypt movies are so interesting. I love that Dennis Miller mentions Bordello of Blood pretty much anytime he opens his mouth, I can't tell if he thinks it's his greatest achievement or his biggest shame.

Thanks for that review, DSR - both for its value and for resurrecting this thread from as close to death as we've ever been.
I feel like a bad horror fan reading that, because as big of a TFTC mark as I am, I'd never even heard of this movie. Since I own pretty much everything else associated with the series, I'll be looking into getting that one soon enough.

Well, like I said, the flick sat on the shelf for about 5 years before very quietly being released direct-to-dvd. And even then, the "Tales from the Crypt" logo is just up in the corner and really small, so it's easy to miss. So, y'know, it's not like they made it easy for fans...for whatever reason.

So has anyone in here checked out The Woman in Black? I thought it looked promising, and it's actually gotten some decent reviews, but haven't gotten around to seeing it yet.

My brother saw it and enjoyed it, although his question in creepy movies is hit/miss. I say that because he was creeped out by Paranormal Activity 3.
