At some point after midnight tonight, I'm gonna perform my annual Thanksgiving tradition of sitting through the anti-pot, pro-Jesus, turkey-vampire gorefest known as BLOOD FREAK. ;D Still need to check out that film. It sounds like all sorts of unintentional comedic fun.

Once again late to the party, but I finished watching the remake of Nightmare on Elm Street. Just totally meh. Where do I even begin?
It commits one of my annoying things of cinema today: really telling CGI. The new backstory doesn't really add anything, in fact, it may hinder it. I wasn't impressed by Jackie Earle Haley's performance. I felt like it traded Englund's dark humor for a just more regular serial killer type. In fact, all of the actors were pretty poor. What happened to Nancy's dad?
The movie is by a numbers affair and reflects what is the problem with most horror today. Quick money shots without building dread. The Friday the 13th remake has been the only decent platinum dunes remake so far.

If he dies via that, then that may just be the greatest death in movie history.

A cow...explodes...due to its farting...hundreds of piranha...Gary Busey...
What drugs exist to cause a writer to bring something like this into existence. And what form of thinking allows him to come down from said high and think "Oh, this is great. I have to keep this in."
Oh, and I recently watched Piranha 3D in 2D and found it to be rather...okay. Didn't really care for the main character. Some creative gore. Needed more Christopher Lloyd.

i found the best box set ever at dollar general. dollman, demonic toys, and dollman vs demonic toys. I've seen that one at my local DG, as well. And then immediately ran in the opposite direction. ;D They have that at my local DG, too. I nearly bought the Puppet Master set (first four movies). Instead, I picked up The Hurt Locker on Blu-ray (since I do have the PM recorded on VHS). I watched Super 8 the other day. Absolutely loved it, outside of the lukewarm ending! The creature design was good (though Attack the Block's designs were much better), but it's the cast that made this movie. They were fantastic and the kids were phenomenal! I related to the love of cinema and had a blast. Final Rating: A

Also found at Dollar General this week, Subspecies 1-3. Did Full Moon Direct have a closeout when I wasn't looking?

Pipe Bomb! ;D
Lately I've been watching old episodes of "Tales from the Crypt" and I recently watched the first season of the horror-inspired "Buffy the Vampire Slayer". They're both really fun shows, but I don't really have anything to write a big long review for them. Besides, I'm pretty sure everyone here is well aware of TFTC, so I'd just be preaching to the choir. Buffy...*shrug*

They're both really fun shows, but I don't really have anything to write a big long review for them. Besides, I'm pretty sure everyone here is well aware of TFTC, so I'd just be preaching to the choir. Buffy...*shrug* The latest season of Robot Chicken that just hit shelves has a funny little skit with the Cryptkeeper in it. THAT right there is why I love Robot Chicken. That, and well....pretty much everything about the show. But Seth Greene and Matt Seinrich have thrown a LOT of horror themed stuff into that show, and it seems they're pretty huge genre fans themselves. My collection of complete seasons of TFTC is only missing seasons 2 and three. I just finished watching the seventh and final season and as cool as that was (Daniel Craig in a VERY early role, anyone?) you could tell they were running on fumes at the end there. Now, if they were to bring it back today with a talented team of writers and some nifty guest stars (for some reason, I want to see The Rock do a TFTC episode. Don't know why, but with the right tale, he could be dynamite and a lot of fun) they could have a huge hit on their hands again. THE WALKING DEAD has proven that horror series CAN be both gruesome AND critically accepted in this day and age, and not relegated to a midnight timeslot. Why NOT give your old pal the Crypt-Keeper one more shot? EDITED TO ASK: Has anyone by chance seen CHILLERAMA? I figured either Seth Drakin or Yellowjacket would be all over it, given it's....well....it's sheer schlock factor. If any of you have seen it, how was it, and would you say it's a "must own" movie? Saw the trailer today, and if those indeed are the short films in it....Jesus Christ. I mean, WOW. Looks to be half TROMA and half TokyoSHOCK.

I recently picked up Seasons 3 and 4 of TFTC, and I got Season 7 a while ago. That's all I have for now, plus the three movies (five movies, if you wanna count the Amicus flicks from the 70s, though I personally don't).
But, as I mentioned in another thread, we've basically got a whole new generation of TV and film stars that could make guest appearances on the show. And seeing just who'll guest on the show was half the fun. I'm totally on board for a revival. I was gonna say "new series" but I'd love it if they just came at us with "season 8" rather than relaunch or whatever.

You know, we used to call Rorschach the Jim Cornette of the FAN horror threads, but now I'm thinking the CM Punk of the FAN horror threads would be more appropriate

Ah, Tales From the Crypt. So many memories of the Cryptkeeper frightening the hell out of me when I was a child.

Sony and FilmDistrict are the poor bastards that are going to distribute the Evil Dead reboot to theaters.

Sony and FilmDistrict are the poor bastards that are going to distribute the Evil Dead reboot to theaters. So potentially ANOTHER loss for Sony, depending on how badly Diablo Cody enrages and alienates the fanbase of the original with her "polishing" job? Great. Although I have visions of Bruce Campbell sitting there with a rolled up newspaper reading over Cody's shoulder and whenever he sees a hipster slang word, he smacks the living HELL out of her with it and goes "BAD! Bad Diablo! Do I have to rub your nose in it again? DO I? Because I *WILL* do it! I will take a s*** right on that script and rub your nose in it! BAD! BAD DIABLO!" ;D In better news....Netflix has added CHILLERAMA to its online line-up of movies. Not sure if they intended to do it or not, since it JUST came out on Blu/DVD....so I would watch it before they realize their mistake and yank it.

I was able to pick up the Piranha remake on DVD for five bucks at Wal-Mart on black friday. And I honestly came pretty close to buying a four pack DVD that included Bloody Murder and Bloody Murder 2. For those of you who aren't familiar with this series, consider yourselves lucky. They may be the most generic, unoriginal, unenjoyable movies in horror history. Well, maybe. I admit there's quite a lot I've yet to see in horror, but the cover of the movies has a guy wearing a hockey mask and wielding a chainsaw. How original. The only reason I wanted the DVD was because it includes the movie Junior(no not the movie where Arnold gets pregnant), which is a foreign movie about these lesbians who have car trouble and wind up running into this crazy dude and his psychotic killer son or something to that effect. It's also been dubbed fairly crappy by those who have seen it, but for some reason, I've wanted to watch it for the longest time and never could find it available to me until now. In the end, I just couldn't bring myself to own something so horrific in nature, so I just went with Piranha.

This may be the greatest thing ever uttered by anyone about any movie in the history of cinema.
