So, horror movie plug time. At times, I'll hear about a movie and somehow, it connects with me, like I feel that it's going to resonate and be something completely special. In 2009, it was Dance of the Dead. In 2010, it was Laid to Rest. In 2011, it was...you know, I didn't have one. Hobo with a Shotgun perhaps? Or maybe I need to wait for Tucker and Dale vs. Evil to hit Netflix. Or Attack the Block. But in 2012, it looks like I have already found one. And people, don't f***ing believe that Evil Dead reboot crap. Don't even bother with Diablo Cody's buzzwords. THIS is the true Evil Dead homage...and it's written and directed by Joss Whedon and David Gorrard. The Cabin in the Woods. If that poster confuses you...you're not the only one. We all don't know what the hell is going on. All we do know is that five people (including Chris "Thor" Hemsworth) go into a cabin for the weekend and s*** goes down. You want the synopsis... That's it. That was all that was given. Just, everything that has been said pretty much has it sounding like an homage to the Evil Dead. Either way, just by looking at the info giving me, it looks like Whedon and Goddard want to twist things up a bit and actually give us a film that could make people start talking and creating buzz like gangbusters. You fool them into thinking that the trailer and ads are just a standard run-of-the-mill slasher movie, where Hemsworth goes shirtless, and then kick them in the gut when they see the movie. Goddard wrote Cloverfield, this should work. Sorry for gushing and trying to bump something, but this honestly looks exciting and thrilling. With this and me almost s***ing myself watching the trailer for The Devil Inside, 2012 could be a good year for horror.

I was able to pick up the Piranha remake on DVD for five bucks at Wal-Mart on black friday. And I honestly came pretty close to buying a four pack DVD that included Bloody Murder and Bloody Murder 2. For those of you who aren't familiar with this series, consider yourselves lucky. They may be the most generic, unoriginal, unenjoyable movies in horror history. Well, maybe. I admit there's quite a lot I've yet to see in horror, but the cover of the movies has a guy wearing a hockey mask and wielding a chainsaw. How original. The only reason I wanted the DVD was because it includes the movie Junior(no not the movie where Arnold gets pregnant), which is a foreign movie about these lesbians who have car trouble and wind up running into this crazy dude and his psychotic killer son or something to that effect. It's also been dubbed fairly crappy by those who have seen it, but for some reason, I've wanted to watch it for the longest time and never could find it available to me until now. In the end, I just couldn't bring myself to own something so horrific in nature, so I just went with Piranha. I've wanted to see BLOODY MURDER because it sounds horrible and derivative, but I'm hoping it's horrible and derivative in a fun way. JUNIOR I might have seen back when I was a teenager, but if I did, it blended in with all the other horror movies I rented at the time (which were a lot). So...what was the 4-pack called? I might have to make a trip to my local Wal-Mart and see if they have it.

I guess that shows how much effort they put into this one. And I couldn't remember the name of the fourth movie, but it's apparently "Deadly Species." No idea what the deal is with that one. I assume it's not exactly Oscar material though. Here's a link to the actual item, so you know what to look for, if you really want to subject yourself to such crappiness. DVD Four Pack of Poop

Spoiler for Cabin the Woods: The popular one dies, and the woman in the scene kicks some demon butt.

Sony and FilmDistrict are the poor bastards that are going to distribute the Evil Dead reboot to theaters. So potentially ANOTHER loss for Sony, depending on how badly Diablo Cody enrages and alienates the fanbase of the original with her "polishing" job? Great. Although I have visions of Bruce Campbell sitting there with a rolled up newspaper reading over Cody's shoulder and whenever he sees a hipster slang word, he smacks the living HELL out of her with it and goes "BAD! Bad Diablo! Do I have to rub your nose in it again? DO I? Because I *WILL* do it! I will take a s*** right on that script and rub your nose in it! BAD! BAD DIABLO!" ;D In better news....Netflix has added CHILLERAMA to its online line-up of movies. Not sure if they intended to do it or not, since it JUST came out on Blu/DVD....so I would watch it before they realize their mistake and yank it. I watched Chillerama the other day. Rented it from the video store, as I didn't expect it to hit Netflix so quickly. It's a lot of fun. "Wadzilla" and "The Diary of Anne Frankenstein" are tremendous!

"The Diary of Anne Frankenstein" I know it's overused, but where's the "Shut up and take my money" picture when I need it? ;D

So a trailer was released for the movie I was gushing about on the top of the page, The Cabin in the WoodsNOTE: If you're thinking about trying to go into the movie cold, then DON'T watch the trailer. There's a pretty big spoiler in there about the plot. That being said, all I'll say is that the spoiler is pretty interesting. Things are definitely not what they seem. {Spoiler}And if you did watch the trailer, it kind of makes the movie that much more interesting. It's definitely a turn that wasn't what I expected the movie to go towards.

Interesting trailer although it really did spoil some big twists. You'd think such a vague "You Think You Know the Story" set-up would blurt it out in the daggone trailer.

Unfortunately, we'll still have 8 months to reflect on how bad EVIL DEAD v.2 was before the planet gets dipped in beer batter, or whatever the hell's supposed to happen to us. EDIT: Dammit, I mis-read the year. Hooray, Mayans! Your calendar will save us from a crapsack movie!

If there's a very bleak light to all of this, it's rather cool that they're trying to release this on the weekend of the 30th anniversary of the original's release here in the States.

Spoiler for Cabin the Woods: The popular one dies, and the woman in the scene kicks some demon butt. I'm probably going to pass on Cabin in the Woods. I'm not a big fan of Joss Whedon in general, and Mikey's synopsis here is probably freakishly accurate.

Rob Zombie Horror Movie Plan: 1.) Hire popular horror people. 2.) Have them curse a lot. 3.) Hire wife. 4.) Give wife signing bonus. 5.) Hire less known, but still somewhat recognizable character actors. I know people bag Rob Zombie, and deserveddly so in most cases, but this is the formula for how I would make a movie but part of it would be intentional. Hell I might even have a scene where everybody just says f*** for 10 straight minutes he put Michael Berryman in Devils just so that he could run a vacuum over a floor while wearing an apron and then stand by while a chicken f'er joke and awful scene played out. What a waste he should have made up for the Hills Have Eyes remake ditching wonderful character actors like Berryman for fx'd monsters and had Berryman do some slashing and scaring in Devils. A real monster. I thought Tiny was awesome. Something like that. Another member of the family
