First things first, I hate "official appreciation threads".
But, as the old saying goes, if you can't beat 'em, join 'em.
The more I think about it, the more I realize that Big Vis deserves an appreciation thread for his hard work through the years. Sure, he'll never be a Hall of Famer and probably never win another title in his career, but this guy has been with the WWE for over a decade now (with the exception of a four year break from 2001-2004) and has made the most out of situations and gimmicks he's been given.
He began as fun loving fat rapping man Mabel with Men on a Mission in 1993 with partners in crime Moe and Oscar. What great times those were as MOM waved their hands in the air like they just didn't care from victory to victory.
Well, eventually Mabel and Moe got fed up with Oscar holding them back from the tag titles and decided to go their separate ways, as Men on a very EVIL Mission to beat up white meat babyfaces everywhere!
Mabel's biggest victory to date came with his win at the 1995 King of the Ring, outlasting such legends as Savio Vega and some guy named The Undertaker.
From there, poor Mabel would go on to lose his only World Title opportunity in a thrilling and breathtaking contest against perhaps the greatest WWF champion of all time, "Big Daddy Cool" Diesel. Big D, however, would need the help of an all knowing Lex Luger to retain his title on that SummerSlam 95 night, and Mabel would never receive the rematch he truly deserved.
Mabel would go on to flounder for the next several years, as WWF's creative team had no idea what the next step for the big man would be. Like so many others before and after him, Mabel would fall victim to a lack of the so-called writers not knowing what to do with true wrestling talent when they saw it.
Finally, in 1999, Mabel would make a surprise return to Raw, only to be abducted by The Undertaker as a member of the original Ministry of Darkness. On that night, he would be transformed into the legend we all know today as Viscera.
Viscera would have many great battles and even have a run as Hardcore champion during the "24/7 rule" days, when only a very select and talented few men would carry the prestigious honor of being called Hardcore champ.
Viscera also formed a revered tag team with tag team legend Phineas Godwinn, by then known as Mideon. While they never won the titles (or a match) they fought valiantly and would have become the greatest team in the history of the business had it not been for the backstage politics of Triple H.
Viscera would leave us again around 2001, only to show up for a brief period in TNA.
Realizing their colossal mistake in releasing such a talent, WWE immediately rehired the former Mabel, and he returned to destroy his old boss Undertaker on a much heralded episode of Smackdown with partner Gangrel.
While Gangrel couldn't cut in the WWE, Viscera shined, and his star continued to rise like never before.
Soon, however, Big Vis's big libido couldn't control itself anymore, and the true ladies man we see today appeared. Vis immediately began eying ring announcer Lilian Garcia as his first victim of the Vis charm.
It worked amazingly well, and soon Vis would have Lillian in the sack with no trouble at all. In fact, Vis was so influential to the business, that Edge would later steal Vis's idea for a "live sex" show in the middle of the ring a full year after Vis had originated the concept.
While proving himself to be one hell of a ladies' man, Vis was also showing that he was a man's man as well, with his patented new finishing move.
After dumping Lillian for someone sexier (Val Venis, I suppose) Vis has now settled into his role as a tag team specialist quite nicely, regularly headlining shows across the globe (via the internet on wwe.com's Heat).
Yes, Big Vis, we love you here at the Crap, and we salute you with this Official Viscera Appreciation Thread.
