Did you even read what I wrote? The guy was only over when he was in proximity to people who were. He was never over in his own right. You dinosaurs can think what you want, don't bother to remove the rose tinted glasses or anything.

I fail to see how doing commentary put him proximity to people who were over. Fans chanted his name regardless if he was involved with an angle or not. By that logic, they should have been chanting, "Tony!" too. As for the name calling, I won't bother to stoop to that because I don't have to in order to make my point. Don't bother to remove the blinders or anything.

It's funny because those are the same accusations that are being thrown at Jericho, that he can't do anything without a a big star beside him. But I disagree because it takes two guys to make it happen. I don't care what the reasons are for somebody getting "over". The fans are the one's who decide in the end.

You guys are on ignore. You're really just threadshitters who refuse to acknowledge that anything of worth happened after 1990.

Daniel Bryan is not bad, he's a good enough wrestler in the ring, but I don't see why he is so popular on the internet. I'm sure it's because of some classic matches he had on the indy scene, but on the big stage he just seems to be lacking "it", or something that really makes me buy him as a superstar.

You guys are on ignore. You're really just threads***ters who refuse to acknowledge that anything of worth happened after 1990. That's quite the stretch in logic, and I can't even begin to understand how you reached that conclusion, but if it means no more pointless arguments, I'm fine with that.

No, but I do. To actually contribute to the thread at hand, I see what you're saying tmoney. I like Danielson a lot myself, but he is an acquired taste, as they say.

Chris Jericho AFTER he cut his hair and was just a douchebag. Absolutely LOVED him in WCW though

I never got the love for Ultimate Warrior. His best matches were with guys who were far superior like Savage, Rude, and Hogan.

And while it is tempting to credit his AWA push to his marriage to Verne Gagne's daughter, I thought Larry was over in that promotion.

I never cared too much for William Regal, even at his peak. There was something off-putting about him.
Serious Jericho was good at times, but not the legend most people made it out to be. I'm a huge fan of his career as a whole, but he only had a few great moments during that period.
I've also been on-and-off about Ric Flair and Kurt Angle, both a bit overrated in my book.

Personally, I have never been a big fan of SRS Jericho. I thought it was a nice change of pace for the first couple of months but after that, it got old, IMO.

Listen to the pop Larry Zbyszko gets when he beat Lord Steven Regal for the World Television title in early-'90s WCW. As much as I hate to admit it, (because Larry Z was the annoying/boring guy in my opinion for years) the dude was over in WCW, at least when he was an active wrestler.
As a commentator, I think it was mostly nostalgia pops. Your mileage may vary.

Larry was more over during his Nitro days than half the locker room. People like to call Larry "annoying" but he always managed to get a reaction from the crowd. He played the irritating cocky heel role perfectly.

I always enjoyed Larry on commentary, and when the crowd was chanting his name he'd turn around and do the "take off the hat" gesture thing
Dude was good. I never got the IWC hate for him. His work in 1997 was over HUGE with the audience. I'd wager his match with Bischoff at Starrcade was only second to Hogan/Sting in crowd response. f***, his program with Scott Hall during that time was one of the biggest angles on the show...and only because of fan response might I add. He wasn't shoved down anyones throat or anything. They pretty much put him into the nWo angle cause of crowd response

There was a period on Nitro when Roddy Piper used to come out and deliver long and dull promos about anything he wanted, regardless if they helped the show or not. To me, Piper is like one of those guys who constantly tries to be funny and just comes across as annoying. I missed Piper in his prime though, perhaps that's why I never really got him and his character. I felt the same way about Dusty Rhodes.

He's never really come across as funny to me, but his more recent promos whenever he makes a guest appearance on Raw are insanely good IMO. And his older stuff in the WWF/E was pretty good too. But yeah, his WCW promos could put me to sleep too.

I'm sure there's none of that when he makes his appearances in WWE. As I said previously, I couldn't really judge the guy when he was at the height of his popularity in the '80s which is the time most people judge him by. I only remember him as an annoying commentator and a semi-regular WCW performer with a huge ego. I did love his match with Bret at WM VIII though which is why I'm wary of being too critical of him since he obviously had a huge amount of talent.
