Just picked up this DVD on Amazon for the low, low price of $18.99 and thought '"What better way to celebrate my bargain hunting than going for a F.A.N. trip down memory lane?" So lets' do. Share your favorite memories of the first 5 Survivor Series, forthwith.
Mine will always be the morning on WWF Superstars in 1989 where they announced the team of Hulk Hogan, Jake Roberts and Demolition. To this day, that may be the most incredible tag team ever put together for anything. In my opinion, at least.

I love these original Survivor Series PPVs. They really appealed to me as a kid, and I remember renting them over and over again. I always thought the Warriors/Perfect Team Match from 1990 looked so cool on the tape cover, and The Undertaker/Hogan Gravest Challenge will always be one of my favorite storylines ever.

I always loved the cool names the teams would get.

Quick question Are the early PPV's butchered to S*** like the VHS releases? Probably had to do with tape speed/length perhaps.

Quick question Are the early PPV's butchered to S*** like the VHS releases? According to the reviews on Amazon, they're the complete events. I'll have a first-hand look in a couple days. Apparently, the Anthology is the first time the compete 1987 SS was seen since it aired.

I would imagine these are the non-VHS versions - so complete, yes.
Rumble 89 and 91 were complete in the anthology (Haku/Race and Mountie/Koko had never been seen on VHS), I would imagine they continued this for SurSer (though they never finished this anthology, correct?)

Coliseum Video has some cool bits not included on DVD releases like Wrestlemania III intro or Bobby Heenan getting the package at WM IV or Hacksaw's team in 1991 celebrating backstage but they took so much off the PPVs it's much better with the DVD releases though the theme dubs are bad with losing some classics like Demolition and Bossman.
It's cool to see the DVD releases with what wasn't on the Coliseum releases. DVDs of 1991, 1990 and 1989 are pretty much the same as the Coliseum. But 1988 and 1987 are very different with a lot of new stuff that wasn't left on Coliseum. 1987 features the ring entrances with the music (C.V. had Craig DeGeorge talking over the themes). The heels all come out to Demolition's music, Rude and Bundy come out to Rude's first theme and Gang and Reed come out to Jive Soul Bro. 1988 has the match order correct with Warrior's team, then the tag match rather than the tag match first, then Warrior's team match. They have interviews with Powers of Pain after the turn, and interviews with the Andre and Bossman teams and before each match they have graphics of the teams. Coliseum had different interviews (Warrior, a different Bad News, Jake and Andre after the match and Jesse interviewing Macho Man) and C.V. also featured Mean Gene above the crowd talking.

All the Anthology releases have been complete so far, except for an edit on Mania 5 where Brother Love disappears from the ring suddenly.
Besides the blur edits, WWF mentions cut and some theme changes and new intros. Ok, that was a lot. Anyway, the events are complete except for, the Mania 5 one, as far as I know.

I have this set too and love it...brought back a lot of memories for me, particularly 87-89... the highlights for me beyond a doubt were the 10 team tag match from 1988 (one of my favorite matches of all time) and '89 just because Heenan wrestles...the quintessential Heenan performance (IMHO)...

For purely sentimental reasons, Survivor Series '89 is one of my all time favorite events.

"I'm thankful coz I ain't Ricky Rude..."
Does anyone know if the WWE Tagged Classics DVDs are the complete versions of the events too or whether they are identical to the original VHS?

Besides the blur edits, WWF mentions cut and some theme changes and new intros. Ok, that was a lot. Anyway, the events are complete except for, the Mania 5 one, as far as I know. All of the Anthology versions remove something. Some remove match footage, all remove at least some ads, or some remove video packages. For example, WM X in the Anthology set removes the recap of the Yokozuna/Luger feud before their title match, WM VII is missing the instant replay debate deal after Savage/Warrior, and Survivor Series '94 is missing about 30 seconds of the Bob Backlund vs. Bret Hart match. In regards to this thread... Survivor Series '87 in the Anthology set is missing a part between the Ted DiBiase video package and the Honky Tonk Man platform interview that has Gorilla and Jesse conversing about what happened so far in each match. On the Coliseum Video version, these are included, but they've been edited so that after a match, they show Gorilla and Jesse giving their thoughts about the match, then cutting to the next match. Survivor Series '88 is missing Royal Rumble '89 advertisments. Survivor Series '89 is missing footage after the 4x4s interview and the Warriors interview. I believe it was ads for the No Holds Barred PPV. Survivor Series '90 is missing Gorilla plugging the Warrior/DiBiase match set to air the next night on NBC.

It's fascinating how these early SS events were popular with many given that there was a combined total of 1 singles match in those 5 years
