To be fair, this Eve turn doesn't feel so abrupt.
They telegraphed that she wasn't all that hot on Zack when he first asked her out and she hesitated, fighting her immediate instinct to say "no," before rethinking it under the terms of "Well, this guy is on fire right now. Maybe I'll get more visibility" with him. It's decent enough plotting, even if it is a bit of a stretch.
