Remember during this run when, backstage non-kayfabe, Jericho took him down with a headlock?
That's not nothing to really do with this thread, I just like bringing it up.

[5. Yeah, he beat Brock in front of a bitchy crowd in a s***** match. Well...I wouldn't call it a 5-Star Match. Three, maybe, and that's being generous. Ohhhh.....that's the filter. Gotcha.

Made slightly foolish by being made to wear Goldust wig in a backstage segment, which did seem petty and odd. Those folk just love testing people right? People put way too much stock in this, it's ridiculous.

I think one forgotten element is that, as a face, he was still tearing up signs in the audience from people who didn't like him. Don't really get how that is supposed to endear him.
Also, what you y'all think about if he had been rushed into the match with Triple H for the title at Bad Blood? Being that was the original plan, and the 'Bad Blood' commercials made it clear that it was the main event, do you think it would have helped/hurt that run?

I'm a huge Goldberg fan, but even I think overall his time there was a disapointment. Hell, I remember he wasn't even in a match on the Judgment Day PPV (1 month after his debut match). That made literally no sense not to use a huge talent like Goldberg on a PPV right after he signed with the company. Than came his fued with Jericho which was really good, but than things started to go downhill. He should have won at Summerslam, end of story. He was built like a monster in that match only for HHH to destroy him with 1 move. Than when he won at Unforgiven it didn't mean as much anymore because a lot of the momentum was gone.
Than he lost the title at Armageddon which was awful booking. He should definitely retained and held the belt for another few months where Brock costs him the title to set up their fued instead of the predictable Rumble run in.
After that he basically wasn't even around that much because he worked most of his contracted dates by that time so his fued with Brock was more like Brock vs Austin than Goldberg vs Brock. His year there mainly was a mess with some bright spots here & there. I can see why he has nothing but bad things to say about WWE & Vince.

IIRC, didn't he make the entirety of Evolution look like jokes during one of his encounters with them? I think it was either a Chamber match or Survivor Series.

I enjoyed his WWE run and I never understood people getting up in arms over Goldust putting a wig on him for 5 seconds. THIS. dudes, it is just a wig, c'mon.

If Jericho's stuff about him in his book is accurate at all, Goldberg has NO sense of humor.

He hated it because he's Goldberg and they actually let people have feuds with him and get wins over him instead of treating him like a wrestling god and the best ever and giving him an undefeated streak bigger than WCW.
To be completely honest it wasn't a bad run and he got hurt by bad booking. Not being on shows when he should have.....not getting belt when he should have.....losing cheap.
As for the wig from Goldust....if he would have just dropped the Golden One with a punch after he did it....it would've been fine.

At the time I felt his run was.....meh. I loved him in WCW though. Guess I got older!

The problem was that RAW wasn't in a good way with Evolution boring up the joint with HHH at the fat hurt helm. With Goldberg you should book him like a shooting star. Come in, whip the ass of some fools and then have him get out in a year and have him lose the title and put that guy over again on the way out. I think they tried to do that but Lesnar kinda screwed that up.

I hated Goldbergs wwe run, I thought he was being shoved down my throat and I really wanted HHH to win the feud....Man was I wrong. In retrospect I would have killed to have a goldberg reign of terror instead of HHH

Goldberg should have been booked to his strengths. Bring him in, have him destroy people in quick matches, let him win the title in his first title match. Hold the title for a while, then lose and leave. Long feuds and storylines don't mesh well with him.

There was exactly ONE thing wrong with Goldberg's run before his last day, and that one thing pretty much wrecked the run.
They were slow building him up, but that's how they should have done it. WWE doesn't has jobbers to feed, he had limited dates anyway, so why waste him? I think the brand extension branching out to PPV's killed the tempo a bit too.
But until the last day there was only one thing wrong. One of the most assinine booking decisions they've ever made.

This is one story that really gets hilariously blown up. Not that I don't understand why, IWC favorite manages to wrestle a giant monster with no workratez into submission is a fun story, but Jericho pretty much grabbed Goldie's head and held on for dear life until other people could intervene and I seem to remember reading Jericho say as much. Not exactly Booker-Batista. Goldberg should have been booked to his strengths. Bring him in, have him destroy people in quick matches, let him win the title in his first title match. Hold the title for a while, then lose and leave. Long feuds and storylines don't mesh well with him. Pretty much this. I'm not sure why people say Goldberg's character has no legs. Unstoppable monster is hardly a new thing in pro wrestling. Wrestling organizations have been trying to build characters like him for ages, he was just one who actually managed to get hugely over and make his push work, and the guy had value, I know the victors write the history books and all, but if you look past the E's revisionist account of things, there was a guy on Austin's level in 98 in terms of drawing and popularity and it was Goldberg.

I remember reading something on the news sites about them planning to book Goldberg in a match against Test the night after Summerslam on RAW, and Goldberg went to them and told them how stupid that is, when the night before he got bloodied and beat down with a sledgehammer. Which if true, I kind of agree with him on.

I love how everyone blames Goldberg for only being able to draw money one way when the WWE tried to draw money with him without following that method. Look, Goldberg was brought in because of his WCW past. So why have him come out and do anything except beat the crap out of everyone? No one wanted to see Goldberg wrestle 20 minute even steven matches. They wanted to see him do what he did at Summerslam 2003 before HHH cut his legs from under him. They wanted to see him destroy people.
Absolutely the WWE deserves blame for his lackluster run there. They changed his music, made him more vulnerable, had him selling way more than they should have been, etc. I don't care how many "wins" he had. He wasn't used properly. If they wanted to book him like he was just another guy, then don't bring him in.
