Man, talk about a random match-up. If Rock was still in The Nation, it wouldn't have been so random, but he was a member of The Corporation and main eventer at that point.

And steve blackman is steve blackman. Are you going to tell steve blackman he can't wrestle main eventers? Honestly I"m pretty sure the only reason Steve Blackman didn't become WWE/WWF champion s because he decided to fight in real life mortal kombat tournaments.

In September of 1998 after The Rock turned face, he wrestled on Shotgun in a 25ish man battle royal that featured himself and 19 of WWF's finest jobbers at the time like Mosh, Thrasher, 8-Ball, Skull, Dennis Knight, Mark Canterbury, Bradshaw, post NOD Faarooq, Scorpio, Dan Severn, Bob Holly, Tiger Ali Singh, Kurrgan, Golga, Giant Silva, Marc Mero, Jesus, Miguel, Too Hot Scott Taylor, Papi Chulo, Funaki, Dick Togo, and Teioh This was either before or way after any of these guys mattered except The Rock. Naturally, The Rock won. Also Monsoon was on commentary for some reason...in 1998

Naturally, The Rock won. Also Monsoon was on commentary for some reason...in 1998 I was at that show. It was in September 1998 in San Jose. It was the night The Rock turned face. About two or three weeks earlier, he lost the Intercontinental Championship to Triple H at Summerslam. A week or two later, he had an incident with Kane and The Undertaker, which led to the night in question. Basically, what happened was The Rock was more or less a tweener before the show. During Raw, he interfered in a match and attacked Kane and The Undertaker (or one or the other). That basically turned him face. Following the Raw taping, we had the Shotgun Saturday night battle royal. All the midcarders and jobbers came out first. Finally, The Rock's theme played and the crowd erupted. The way I see it, his inclusion in the battle royal was a means of testing the waters, so to speak. The WWF was trying to gauge how fans would react to The Rock as a face. Needless to say, it was a success.

Truly a landmark match. Yes, one for the ages. As inappropriate this is going to sound but I missed it when Diva's wore thongs or revealing booty shorts.
