I've got some money coming in from late Christmas gifts, but it'll still probably only be enough to get one of these games, both of which seem pretty awesome from the VERY small amount I've played of them, and I was wondering if I could get a solid recommendation as to which one is the better value. Of course, there's an "other" option, because if there's something better than both out there, I wanna know about it.

I've played neither, but since I abhor FPS games, I'd say Skyrim might give you more bang for your buck.

My vote goes to Skyrim... granted, I'm biased as I'm not the biggest fan of games like Battlefield where the campaign is secondary to online, since I hate online play. But, I guess it comes down to what you do the most.... if you'd rather turn on your system, grab a bunch of people, and play a game online... go with Battlefield.
If you like games for any other reason besides for online play, go for Skyrim as it hits on all cylinders and is a genre redefining game. Just like how Pac-Man, Super Mario, Zelda, Final Fantasy, Doom, Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, GTA3, and others came along and changed the game, that's what Skyrim is doing now. From what I've heard, there are quite a few RPG publishers who are considering taking cues from Skyrim for their next, and future games... so if you want to get a glimpse of what RPGS will, most likely, look like and play like in the future... go with Skyrim.

Do you have MW3? If you do get Skyrim.
Otherwise get Skyrim, unless you really like fps games. both are good games, so either way you win.
PS3 or Xbox? If PS3 there are some issues with Skyrim apparently? so get B3

Most definitely. I've been playing it for the last few days and just been having a blast.

Never been a fan of games like Skyrim, Oblivion, Morrowind... I steer clear. I like MW3, but there are some pretty damned huge problems with it (like the rampant cheating/hacking, gross imbalances in weapons) that make it a flawed game. I wouldn't play it if it weren't for my friends in the game.
I chose 'other', I say wait for Diablo 3.

SKyrim is one of the greatest games of the past 10 years, bugs and all.

Already taken care of, believe me, but I need something to play when my girlfriend's not home or sleeping. She's watching me play Arkham City like it's a movie, so I feel bad playing without her right there.

Well said. If you're an online gamer, and crave for the joy of playing with your friends, go with Battlefield (or MW3 if you don't have it already, which I'm sure most of your friends have). If not, go with Skyrim. There's just SO MUCH to do in that game, and the level of freedom and detail is unheard of. It has it's fair share of bugs and glitches, but they never tamper with the overall experience, beside they can easily be patched (some of the glitches are actually FUN).

Since it's an option, I do have to toss praise towards Saints Row: The Third. I do have some complaints, in that almost half the story missions are just doing the side activities for different reasons... then, when they end and you do all original missions, it makes the game seem really short.
But, be that as it may... it's the absolute most fun I have had in a game all year. Even though it was kindof short, I enjoyed every second.
In this, I would definitely still say pick up Skyrim. However, I would put SR3 as your next game purchase.

It has it's fair share of bugs and glitches, but they never tamper with the overall experience, beside they can easily be patched (some of the glitches are actually FUN). I wouldn't say the glitches in Skyrim are easy to patch, considering how Bethesda's first patch made the glitches not only WORSE, but it introduced NEW glitches. Honestly I think the platform to play Skyrim on is the PC, because one of the leading causes of the glitches seems to be Skyrim struggling with running in the confines of the limited RAM on the 360 and PS3. On PC, RAM isn't an issue as you can freely upgrade that, plus the most fun you can have with the Elder Scrolls games is playing the mods the community puts out. So honestly, go with Battlefield 3 or Saints Row: The Third, if, and only if, you have a gaming rig strong enough to run Skyrim. If you have a crap gaming PC, then get Skyrim, just know that you won't be getting the best Skyrim experience possible(hell for that matter you wouldn't be getting the best Battlefield 3 experience, either, as that's another one that is better on PC because of the visuals and more importantly, more players allowed in each match).

I'd say either Saints Row 3 (which is a blast), or Skyrim, which I got hooked on yesterday
