Yeah this film is a killer alright. What got me was: {Spoiler}1. The shooting of the horse who collapsed right before the top of the hill. {Spoiler}2. Joey stepping in for his "friend" on that same hill and giving that look back./spoiler] {Spoiler}3. Joey's friend's end. {Spoiler}4. The barb wire sequence. The worst thing is in this film we only get a small hint of what animals and people went through because of this war. It's easily one of the most barbaric wars in history. If this was enough to be difficult to see, picture if Spielberg decided to show even more. There's a passage in All Quiet On The Western Front that deals with horses, and the narrator mentions them screaming...god how did anyone come back from there with their sanity intact? This is great film though. Just be prepared to be hit really hard with this.

Incredible moment that I had to applaud. {Spoiler}Not showing the horses being shot down during the cavalry charge. Just showing riderless horses running through the woods was an incredible example of less is more. Also, as a person who has raised horses, I had happy nostalgic tears of the prewar story. I need electrolytes. Edit: Also, In Pursuit of Honor, a Don Johnson movie talking about what happened on this side of the ocean to the military horses pre WW2, damn fine flick.

Seriously... {Spoiler}When Joey plows the field field and splits that rock in two I wanted to cheer along with him as he did it, but I bawled my eyes out as it happened But then again I'm an emotional wreck with movies anyway, but never anything like War Horse before

For once, I'm not letting curiosity get the better of me and clicking on the spoiler tags.
I want to go into this film sans spoilers.

I think I want to do some kind of double feature with it(obviously watching it second, given how, from the sound of your reactions, it is gut wrenching sad), I just can't decide on which film. I was going to pick Sherlock Holmes, but the family as a whole plans on seeing that later with free movie passes. Maybe a Spielberg double feature with Tintin and then War Horse?

*reads spoilers* ..........IT'S A HORSE! It's more than a horse man. It's the most invested into any character I've been in a film in a long long time. Plus add how the horse connects all the other stories and it's a damn shame you couldn't give the damn horse an award, but that kinda of stuff goes to the tech team of the movie. They make you care more about an animal than any other film I've ever seen.

I thought of a really weird comparison, but I think it works. {Spoiler}It's Slumdog Millionaire, if Jamal was a Horse.
