I realized this became a trend starting with last year's holiday Hyundai campaign, where Pomplamoose took center stage out of the blue (I had been a fan of their covers for a while and was shocked to see them randomly pop up on my TV screen).
But now I find out that it's continued this holiday season with Hyundai's recent holiday ads:
And then there's the non-Holiday-related "Billionaire" spot for Chevrolet that aired every week during The X Factor, featuring Chelsea Williams, whose jaw-dropping prettiness is completely undersold by the commercial, but whose awesome voice isn't:
Has anyone else noticed? It's almost like those FreeCreditReport.com commercials started an advertising trend where unsigned musicians are requisitioned for ads in the hopes that the songs become memes (of a sort) and lead to increased product awareness.
Anyway, I guess your mileage may vary (no pun intended, honestly) as to whether any of these "cute unsigned musicians" are actually cute. But they seem to be cropping up everywhere, so I suppose anybody with a guitar and a YouTube account is fair game for next year's ads. And I wholeheartedly approve of this trend, if I'm being honest.

I am a fan of cute women selling me things. It's certainly a better strategy than having annoying and stupid randomness, like a lot of other recent commercials.

I don't know if they're cute or not. But they're sure as f*** annoying.
Though I guess it's nice to know that Obnoxious Singing White Girl Who Has An Awful Voice has a name.

They're using someone else. MC Chris actually has talent.

BTW, it's Pomplamoose. They're pretty good, but MAN did I get sick of those commercials.

What I wonder is what the people who were fans of those artists before they appeared in a nationally televised commercial thinks. Most all those artists are relatively unknown so it's great that they get the exposure but at the same time they're selling out pretty hard. I'd probably be upset if I actually cared about any of those artists but that's just me.

If I liked them but they were making jack as an artist before they got into the commercials I can't imagine being anything but happy for them.

^ Same here. I really dug Pomplamoose before those commercials and was thrilled to see that perhaps they were getting a break in the industry.

I have played in punk bands for 10 years and I welcome anyone to sell themselves to commercials and major labels. I am also a realist that feels that sometimes, that is the best way to spread your message.
