The "Roundtable Returns" Edition - These threads are for discussion, image posting, youtube videos, friendly chatter, insanity, and anything that has to do with the Friendship is Magic TV show.
- All content must be clean. No nudity, nothing overly violent. Nothing that would make the mods mad.
- Follow the rules of the FAN. Unless you want the mods to banish you to the moon.
- Please do not come into these threads with the soul purpose of flaming. Again, moon banishment. What's not to get.
- If you are a non-fan and have legitimate questions, feel free to ask. Like Cheerilee, we'd be happy to teach you whatever you need to know.
- And most importantly of all: Have fun.

So, welcome once again to the discussion panel threads. It's been quite a few months since we've done this, and i know there are a few who haven't done these threads before. Basically we'll add a different topic in each page, and you discuss it. Simple as that. And the first topic is... The Cutie Pox

I thought The Cutie Pox was all right for what it was, another episode about "The Eternal Struggle" (that is, The CMC trying to get their cutie marks).
The things I probably remember from it most are the appearances by Allie Way and The Big Lebowski ponies and Apple Bloom speaking "fancy".

"The Cutie Pox" was a good episode, all in all. The execution of the ailment was done well, it had good character development of Apple Bloom IMHO, Zecora was again prominently featured and it gave us Allie Way and the Lebowski ponies,
The downside was that the Loopdehoop secquence went far too long in my liking and it was simply what I hoped they wouldn't do: a crusading episode since it was made obvious in Show Stoppers what their special talents were. The other episodes with them in Season 2 so far worked better because they didn't focus on crusading.
A 7/10 or B-, IMHO.

Cutie Pox had a lot of fun moments in it. I still can't believe MLP decided to do a Big Lebowski cameo of all things, and the entire stretch of Apple Bloom going from one cutie mark to the next is certainly one of the highlights of this season.
However, it just doesn't seem to come together to make this episode any higher than Good. If anything else though, this is probably in the bottom three this season, yet I still call it good, which goes to show just how much I dig the series right now.
Maybe it's the fact that this followed another episode centering around the CMC, but at the same time, Sisterhooves Social and Cutie Pox don't even center around the Crusaders as a group, and instead focus on an individual member, so that line of thinking really doesn't apply like it would with Stare Master and Show Stoppers.

Regarding the poll, voted for Lesson Zero.
As for The Cutie Pox. It is the only episode in the entire series that I have two different scores for.
As a whole, I give the episode a 7/10 aka a C-, but that's mainly fueled by The Big Lebowski reference.
Take that reference away and the rest of the episode was just a 6/10 or a D- for me. There were some good parts in the episode, and I'll definitely watch the episode again if I come upon it while switching channels, but I don't know. I just think it was that well of a put together episode. I think the biggest reason for this was the pacing. Actually pacing seems to be a common problem in this season as many of the 11 episodes fall victim to bad pacing.

I'll get to my thoughts in a bit. Here's a massively updated version of "Bad Apple"

I gave it a 6 on my review, and I stand by it. While probably a stronger episode in other departments than the two Dash episodes that followed, it still feels like it stretches a bit, and lacks something that makes it great.

Have to say that the entire scene of Apple Bloom's cutie marks getting way out of control was one of the best individual scenes in S2 so far.

Have to say that the entire scene of Apple Bloom's cutie marks getting way out of control was one of the best individual scenes in S2 so far. And Applejack with one of the greatest lines of the season.
