Bob Newhart one of the funniest guys ever. A underrated comedic genious. I wonder what skits they could do if he guest starred on Raw.

I consider Bob Newhart my hero. When I wanted to be a standup comedian, I listened to Bob's albums more than anyone. His unassuming persona makes him so much more relatable than most comedians. Also, Newhart is one of my favorite shows of all time, mostly due to how he was the "normal" one and everyone around him was crazy, but because he was the only one with any sense in the town they acted like he was crazy.

One thing I liked about Bob, he wasn't a camera hog, he will let others be funny. It didn't always have to be about him and how funny he is. Weather it was Bill Dailey, Marcia Wallace, Jack Riley, Peter Scolarri (sp), Julia Duffy, I can go on and on, but he didn't try to hog the laughs.
Bob any make anything funny. Even a indentional bad sitcom. Sadly I think if this show was real, it would be better than most of the crap on tv today.

If anybody takes a trip to Navy Pier in Chicago, they can always talk to Dr. Hartley. (TV Land dedicated this sculpture in his honor in 2004.) For the record, I think Bob Newhart is the funniest man in the world. And to think his best friend is Don Rickles. Don wrote some bits about Bob in his book, as they spend lots of time travelling the world together with their wives. The funniest one is when they visited the White House. Bob (all nervous, as he usually is around Don): "Now, now, now D-D-D-Don, this is the White House. I would like for you to behave while we're here. I don't want us to get into trouble..." Don's like "Geez Bob, I know the difference between the White House and a White Castle!"

I grew up on Bob Newhart. His first tv show was must see tv on Sat nights. My mom had all his (and Shelly Berman, an almost forgotten great of that time. check him out) albums. My favorite bit is the night watchman trainee calling his boss because "Giant ape climbing up the side of the building" wasn't covered in the manual"

That would be the greatest show ever.

Anyone seen the Bob Newhart show from the 70's (not to be confussed with the short lived varety show from the 60's) I thought it was a underrrated brillantly clever written sitcom of all time. It reminds me of the first four seasons of Spin City, with the sneaky clever writing.
As for Newhart, it was a good show for the most part. The writing wasn't as clever as Bob Newhart show, but still it was better than most sitcoms.
If you want an example of how brillant Bob is. He made that god awful 20th season of Saturday Night Live watchable. One of my favorite lines "It was perfectly normal until you started shooting people." Than how calm he is when Tim Meadows as the lawyer / crazed shooting suspect keep yelling at him that he shot those people.
Another favorite line is the season 4"Who Ir Mr. X" episode of The Bob Newhart show after Bob got grilled by the talk show host, he bumps into the next guest who is a nun and he says "Watch out she will (something about religon I forget what)", so funny. Than later in the episode Emily tells Bob the nun is offering to go 50 / 50 on hitman to get the talk show host.

My favorite bit is the night watchman trainee calling his boss because "Giant ape climbing up the side of the building" wasn't covered in the manual" "You'd be proud of me sir, I was thinking. I went into the utility closet and got a broom. Then I went to the window and started beating on the ape's toes with the broom...Yes sir, I'll fill out the form after I get off the phone with you." (Typical bureaucratic crap right there is what made it funny. Can't even borrow a broom without having to fill out 12 forms.) One of my favorite bits is the "Khruschev Landing", where they rehearsed what the Soviet Premier was going to say at his U.S. Press Conference. "OK Jerry, get in right on the door. Get in tight on Khruschev. A...a what? A mustache? I don't think so, Jer. JERRY, YOU'RE ON THE WRONG GUY! Um, fact sheet says he's a short stocky fellow with a gray suit. Pan around. Looks like he slept in it? That's him! That's him!" "Okay, get him to the microphones. Have him start the speech. "Blah, blahblahblah". Jerry, he's hopping up and down. I can't keep him in the picture, Jerry, he's hopping up and down; see what he's... He has to go where? Oh come on, he's had 19 hours to take care of that. I can't take the time, Jer; I got Guiding Light right behind me."

A Bob Newhart thread isn't complete without this. That is the broadcast version. Lucky Canada, they get the original version with the Bob Newhart show theme at the end.

He always seemed nervous like he had stage fright, was that just an act?
