It's annoying when you have a younger sibling that is constantly listening to and talking about that sort of thing. I have a 12 year old sister so I'm constantly exposed to crap like Hannah Montana and whatnot. If it weren't for that fact, I probably wouldn't know that these people even exist. But since I'm basically forced to listen to it on a regular basis, I can't help but dislike the people behind it. Not that I have an avert hatred for those kids, but they grind my gears to no end.

I dont find it creepy. Im just bored of it. Bieber doesnt really warrant a fraction of the hate. His music is generic and mediocre, but he at least seems kind of cool.
Kesha on the other hand makes me sick.

Not a fan, I am just indifferent. As I am indifferent to a lot of things. Maybe they feel hate will make them feel cool, because it seems today hating something is cool. You say Teen idol hatred is creepy, I say celebrity worship is creepy. I guess at the end of the day we are all losers that feel the need to be passionate about something, whether it be hate or love, but I guess we are never, NEVER careful with our words that we hurt other people. whatever bro. Anger is what makes America great. I believe it is angst that is the right word. Can't really go into details, but I think we're getting closer and closer to there being no such thing as an "acceptable guy image". Masculinity is pretty frowned upon, especially by the academic and journalistic bourgeois. What about acceptable female image? What about that? But going a little off topic, and I don't intend for this to be political, and I apologize for it, but I noticed when a lot of us see these teen, mostly pretty boy celebrities we will always mock their appearance than their music and say how gay they are and look and make jokes that they are possibly gay(probably to destroy their fans dreams) but when real homophobic sentiments happen to actual ones we get defensive about it and scream bigotry. What do a lot of us have problems with more, feminine looking guys or homosexuals?

Seconded. I respected these types of groups/people for succeeding at what they did. I do like some of NSYNC's songs from way back when. For me, it was moreso the fans that annoyed me than the performers themselves. You speak the truth, my friend.

I don't hate Justin Bieber, I hate the large majority of his idiotic fans.

Normally I'd agree and I actually don't give two tosses about Bieber
However one little * Censored * I mean artist whom I have an ever-growing annoyance of is Cody Simpson (Just learned his name today) mostly because his song iYiYi (Stupid song title also) is played every single time I'm at the gym and its like you're what age and you're talking about a love so powerful that you can't tear yourself away.........And don't get me started on that 143 crap either
Having said that as soon as my gym takes it out of the loop I'm sure I'll return to normal
* Okay I over-exaggerated my feelings slightly but goddamn do I hate that song *

I hated "teen bands" as far back as NKOTB when I was in the age range taht was supposed to think they were cool. I just never got it, and I think it's carried over. I don't hate the people who are in the bands, nor do I say "oh, you're horrible people", because, wel, they found a niche and cahsed in. It's admirable, I just don't want to hear it or have to hear about it.
I will say I'm on overload abaout the whoel Beiber thing from both ends. Yes, the hate is rediculous since he's basically just a kid, but my neice's adoration and weird defense of him has me wanting to scream. As an example, we were in the car, some Beiber tune comes on and I just reaqched over and changed the station to classic rock. She immediately went off on me using all the teenage buzzwords because if I don't like his music it's because I'm a hater and whatnot.

When I was a teen I hated the boy bands and stuff because I was (am) a metal head and thought they were taking precious air time away from Metallica, White Zombie and Pantera.
Now as an adult, I have no opinion about this stuff whatsoever. Let the kids have their stupid music, who really cares?

What do a lot of us have problems with more, feminine looking guys or homosexuals? And that is my main issue with teen idol bashing. I wasn't trying to have a discussion on how "overexposed" these guys are, I was more interested in defending their non-threatening images. It's the macho posturing a lot of the bashers do that I find bothersome. For example, the Twilight films. I understand just about every other complaint against it (Bella being a Mary Sue, Pattinson's (intentional?) stilted acting, the ridiculous story twists and turns). However, when guys start talking about how "gay" or "fruity" the male characters or their actors are, that's when I think it gets into the Stupid Zone.

Well, sadly, a lot of that comes from the teenage crowd, the guys who are stuck in school surrounded by stuff about these teen idols; unlike many of us adults who can avoid them 100% if we so please...hell, I don't even know if I've ever heard a full Bieber song, if I have I totally wasn't paying attention.
Anyway, those guys are surrounded by it since they're stuck in school, and they're also at an age where they're desperate to validate their manhood and masculinity, so they'll lash out at "pretty boy" imagery.

I can't stand Bieber's music, and if I see him pop up on the TV that's a channel changer for me. That said, I think a lot of his haters give him even more exposure. Give me Bieber over the people who have to spam the comments section of music videos I actually want to see with copy and paste or spam posts about how "LOL HE SUCKZ." And those "U SAY BIEBER I SAY ___, etc. etc." deals.

I'm fairly certain it's jealasy(sp?) Bieber and other teen pop idols are famous, rich and have tons of girls throwing themselves at their feet.

Some people find the fans of music they don't like obnoxious and defensive, so they...go on the defensive by being obnoxious?

I can only guess that most YouTube users who make comments about Justin Bieber are nothing more than just teens or junior high kids who are going with what's consider "cool" in this day and age.
I have said it before and I'll say it again. I, too, was one of those kids who used to bash Backstreet Boys, N'Sync, and 98 Degrees. However, when I got to sophomore or junior year in high school, I stopped bashing them and started to respect them more.
People have bashed Miley Cyrus as well. I don't hear a lot of people bashing Demi Lovato or Selena Gomez, but then again, I could be wrong. It's no different than when people criticized the likes of Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Jessica Simpson, Mandy Moore, etc. back in the day. Well, it could be argued about Britney and Jessica, but that's a different topic for another day. Did people bash Tiffany and Debbie Gibson back in the 80s?
Regarding the boy bands of yesteryear, I know people bashed them, but were R&B groups bashed as well? Some did bash Boyz II Men, but I don't remember hearing people bash Jodeci, or even Shai for that matter, or even Blackstreet, New Edition, or Guy. They, too, did some songs that were similar to what BSB, N'Sync, NKOTB, etc. sang.
I could be wrong about that last part though.

I don't recall groups like Jodeci and Shai getting slammed the way Backstreet Boys or New Kids were. Maybe I just never heard it, but I don't remember that ever happening.

Selena Gomez gets some flack from jealous Bieber fans seeing as they're dating, but she doesn't really subvert any gender roles (unlike her boyfriend, who's got a women's fragrance in his name), so it's not as overwhelming. The biggest complaint thrown at female teen idols tends to be whether or not they set a good example for young girls.
As for groups like Boyz II Men, they weren't really marketed on their looks (I believe they were in their mid to late twenties at their commercial peak), so they didn't really suffer from it. But black artists that cross over to Top 40 aren't immune to angry male hate either- even before the Rhianna fiasco, Chris Brown among others got it pretty bad, so I'm guessing New Edition did also ("Popcorn Love" was before my time, but still).

On my 20th birthday in 1999 N'sync's "No Strings Attached" came out. I bought it that morning. I loved Boy Band and Girlie crap. I also liked hardcore rap like Geto Boyz and Too $hort. The only reason anyone ever gave me for not listening to catchy pop tunes was because "it's gay" Every generation has had their Bieber you may think the music is simplistic bubblegum non music... and it is for the most part but some people seem to have moth frothing, eye straining hate for them, and that I dont get at all.

I'm the same way, too. I'm a total rap fan to boot, but I also like R&B. In fact, I'll listen to pretty much anything. However, one of my guiltiest pleasures is girl pop stuff. About a month or so ago, I bought some girl pop albums from little known artists and groups such as i5, Innosense, Mikaila, and PYT. I even bought the CD from that group called Dream, who were known, by the way.
