So I bought Devils tickets to the Nieds retirement night for me and my brother on the Ticketmaster resell thing. I screwed up and bought a single ticket thinking it was a pair (my fault) and then bought another pair. Stupid thing won't let me resell the damn thing per Devils rules they say. Maybe if I give it more time or something try stubhub Yeah, should be a tidy profit for that night.

Congrats to Pekka for getting 7 years, 49 Million, and a shut out of the 'Yotes all on his birthday!
BTW, watched the Preds/Yotes game last night. There were 50 people in Glendale. Why is Bettman so intent on saving this franchise???

Why is Bettman so intent on saving this franchise??? I can't totally knock Bettman for the Sunbelt expansion, even when some of them are struggling. Like it or not, Phoenix is a HUGE market, and it's in the NHL's best interest to continue having a presence there. What I can knock him for was how shoddily handled the expansion was. It was far too much, far too quickly. It's worked nicely in some markets, but you can't create/relocate THAT many teams and not expect some of them to have a hard time in terms of putting a good product on the ice and drawing a new fanbase.

Wow, the Tampa Bay Lightning are averaging more fans this year than the Tampa Bay Rays. Nice.

People forget that Phoenix was actually fairly successful in their first years of the desert. Mainly because they had stars like Keith Tkachuk, Jeremy Roenick, Teppo Numminen, and Nikolai Khabibulin. They were a playoff team and the novelty of hockey in a city like Phoenix was still alive. However once they blew it in the 1999 playoffs against St. Louis after being up 3 games to 1 and being mediocre for about ten years after that, the interest died.

The move to Glendale away from Phoenix hurt too. Plus its hard to get invested to buy season tix when it looks like the team could up and leave at an second.

Woo Devils game tonight! Really excited. It's my first game of the season. Should be a lot of fun.
Though I did get a little sticker shock at just how expensive NJ Transit is these days. It's like $20 for a round trip from my local train station to Newark Penn. Yeesh.

Yeah, should be a tidy profit for that night. I'll try that... I forgot about them mainly because I don't know but I figured since it was just a file... never mind. I probably set the price too high but we got time and I think I'd make money at a lot lower so why not try

It got ticket sales flowing and hundreds of thousands of people in Winnipeg giving away money for nothing when the Jets were leaving the first time. Plus Phoenix has a higher survival rate then the Jets did so it's a safer bet.

Ron Wilson announces that Ben Scrivens will start tonight against the Bruins and Luke Schenn will be "given a rest" (aka is a healthy scratch.)

That part was the most ridiculous; the whole practice of putting teams/arenas miles away from city centers is now dying, yet the 'Yotes went through with it right as the change in practice was really going into full swing. You can get away with putting NFL teams in far-off stadiums (e.g. Giants/Jets in Meadowlands, Redskins in Landover, Bills in Orchard Park, Cardinals in Glensdale, etc.) because fans will be willing to make a longer, less convenient drive one day in a week 8-10 times a year. You can't get away with it in the other leagues anymore. The prices involved in the travel are bad enough, plus there's the lack of things to do in the immediate area, and it's time out of your way. Factor in how much more public transportation is available in the actual cities, etc. Hell, even here in the NYC metro area, the Mets and Yankees, the undisputed kings of the sports world in a baseball-crazed region, are seeing big trouble now that fans from New Jersey and Connecticut are having harder and harder times justifying spending the money to go through multiple boroughs to get to a game. For Phoenix, it just adds all the more to it: to get, hook in, and KEEP fans, you need to give them a full game day experience. Moving your team away from a vibrant city like Phoenix into a tired, sleepy place like Glensdale takes away such an experience.

They're like 40 miles away from civilization.

Columbus down 5-0 to Philly after the 1st. If anybody knows somebody that's hiring, please inform Scott Arniel and Scott Howson. They're going to need jobs in the AM.
