Anyone know anything about this? this is the blurb from the website:
"WRP is a 13-episode seasonal concept built on wrestling storytelling with a complete three act narrative structure. Cutting the cord completely from the modern wrestling industry chronology, it's the launch of a new universe with new characters and new rules. WRP aims to combine modern, relevant themes with compelling in-ring storytelling to create a unique wrestling television experience".
Not quite getting whats going to be so different about it. Is it just that its run in Seasons? I swear MTV already did something similiar with X-Pac and Vampiro and some others. Wrestling Society X maybe?
They've been announcing there roster one at a time over the last couple of days. First day was Colt Cabana, today was an indie guy I hadn't heard of, think it said he wrestled under the name Dr Luthor currently.
If theres already a television deal in place, could this be the location of the Goldberg-Batista match that Goldbergs been hyping on twitter?
Also, does this confirm that the 'Colt back to WWE' rumours have no substance or could he still be doing both? Seems unlikely to me.

Think it'll be on DVD and streaming, there'll be 13 "episodes" where entire feuds are started and get settled. Have a feeling this won't affect Cabana if he wants to go to WWE, as he can get this filmed in about a week or two.

Dr. Luthor used to wrestle in FMW and is mentioned in Chris Jericho's first book.

I'm interested to see what these shows are like, but scratch my head about all of their talk of how they're going to be the only one to do episodic wrestling shows with storylines. There's already plenty of good wrestling out there with logically booked stories and solid wrestling matches (CHIKARA and PWG come to mind first). I'm not sure how this is going to be so much different or better than what is already out there.

They say they're aiming to get everything in the space of 13 episodes, a bit like HBO and Showtime programmes - they want to be the wrestling equivalent of The Wire, for example... but without the violence, corrupt politicians or corrupt police.

If I remember reading in the Torch, Jeff Katz is behind this project. He's the kid interviewer from the 1997 nWo Souled Out PPV who had a show on a 50,000 watt radio station, and he's done other wrestling projects.

I'm really interested to see how this project goes and wish I heard about it sooner so I could have monetarily contributed (as measly a contribution it would have been). I don't know quite what to expect out of it. I don't think it's gonna be comparable to WSX, if it's aiming for an HBO series feel I imagine it'll be more mature than that. What I'm expecting is in the place of typical backstage segments we'll get acted out scenes where the wrestler's play out their character's day to day lives to provide the backstory to their matches. Instead of cutting a promo about how a match is important (though there can be some of that too) we'll actually see what they're going through to prepare for it, sometimes having verbal confrontations with their opponents before the match, then after you get all the back story you get the match. I could be off the mark completely. I'll be watching though that's for sure.

I've often thought that applying cinematic/television storytelling tools to wrestling would be an interesting experiment. I'm definitely excited.

Just read some news saying that Kenny Omega and someone named Alex Reynolds (who may or may not be Ryan Reynolds brother, never heard of the guy until now) have joined it.
So yeah, they have Colt and Omega. I'm gonna give this a chance.

If they book more people like Cabana and Omega, they're definetely gonna be worth checking out. I'll be keeping an eye on this for sure.

Hmm, they've announced some decent roster members so far. I'm not so sure that this thing will succeed but I'm interested in it. Hell, I'm one of those people that thinks WSX wasn't that bad (just a victim of having such a small time slot).

This is looking like a pretty solid roster so far.
Even if nothing ends up coming out of this beyond this first run, at least it'll put on (in theory) some good matches and hopefully an interesting storyline or two.

I wonder if they'll utlize talking head style interviews instead of the interviewer-with-mic style? I could see this being like a dramatic version of "The Office"
Or maybe they'll just go full cinematic, which would be tough to do. Wrestlers are great entertainers, but having them actually act in a traditional sense rarely works out well.
