It was a special job placement program that she was put in to get her away from weather duties.
after her difficulties at a couple of Winter wrap-ups I'm guessing the mayor was involved...
gotta love government unions!

May the Best Pet Win! is the seventh episode of the second season of My Little Pony Friendship is Magic, and the thirty-third episode overall. In this episode, Rainbow Dash decides to start a competition to discover what's the best pet for her after realizing how she's the only one of her friends without one.
I loved the song (despite the weird faces), the dream sequence was just WTF, I liked Tank (and his gyrocopter) and Ghastly Gorge and obviousness didn't hurt too bad. Not to mention the return of Winona.
The only bad thing is just Dashie all in all because this episode focused on her less likable attributes (although it didn't reach the depths of MDW) although I felt sorry for her when she was trapped. Still because she was the focus dragged the episode down a notch.

- Opal, I like her, she can be a troll cat one moment, and Rarity's faithful partner in fashion the next. Not my favorite pet, though, as I rank her behind Gummy, Angel, and Tank.
- Rarity, my second favorite Pony now. Originally she was at the very bottom, because I thought she was the shallow, snobby fashion lover at first, it changed a bit as the season went on, but it wasn't until watching season 1 over again, combined with the big push for her here, that made her jump so high.
- Ponyville, cool town, weird construction choices.
- May the Best Pet Win, hoo boy.....I liked the song, I liked Tank, but the obviousness of it being Tank as the winner was, well, way too obvious(hell, we f***ing predicted it the second they released their first promo image for the episode, as said image had Dash lined up with all the "cool" pets), and Dash was in rare douche form that would later be topped in the next episode. So for me the bad far outweighs the good, and so it gets a 6/10 or a D.
