Seriously, why are they so awesome? Super addictive 1st album. Easy to sing and dance to.
First learned about them through Lady Gaga when they did a remix for 'The Edge of Glory'.

I miss the 90's when alternative rock was very diverse. Now it all sounds like this band.

Well, FTP is consider an Indie-Electro band, though there might not be much of a difference.

Pumped Up Kicks was a huge pop hit so they were impossible to avoid.

I barely listen to the radio so I had no idea, but then again, radio stations overplay music all the time. When I first heard it, it was dance remix of the song.

I doubt they'll be 1 hit wonders, for one they already have another successful single - and they're too unique to just fade away.
I'm normally a huge modern rock/alternative critic, mainstream wise not much has interested me in that field since the early 00's. I dig these guys though, they're different and every one of the songs on their record is catchy - no complaints from me.

The epitome of one hit wonders. And they're definitely not a rock band. I guess you can argue for them being an "alternative" band, but not rock. Rock is dead as far as mainstream music is concerned. Outside of a handful of bands (Green Day, Foo Fighters, Coldplay) there are no relevant mainstream rock acts in today's world of pop, electronic and hip hop. Not until this generation's Beatles/Nirvana come along and do something about it. And Foster The People will never be that band.
By the way, I actually enjoy FTP. "Don't Stop" is a great song and I, like the rest of the world, really enjoyed "Pumped Up Kicks". But they have about as much mainstream staying power as Neon Trees, Kings of Leon, OK Go or Young the Giant. Not saying they're bad at all, just hardly relevant in mainstream music outside of one single that caught on for a few months.

Seen them live, incredible. I highly recomend seeing them live if you like the album.
Pumped up Kicks is one of my favourite songs for months now, its great how dark the lyrics are yet how happy the beat is.

Having seem them live in a packed out ampitheatre in Birmingham this year, where the crowd sang along to every single song they played, I think the "one hit wonder" jibe is a load of shit. Its one of the best albums of the year.

They are what alternative sounds like these days. "Indie pop." Like I said, back in the 90s alternative was much more diverse.

Its one of the best albums of the year. Whoa whoa whoa...You don't think people sang along with "No Rain" by Blind Melon, "Tubthumping" by Chumbawumba, danced to "Macarena", knew all the words to "Closing Time" or instantly recognized "Milkshake" or "Ice Ice Baby"? One hit wonders are popular, no doubt. I never said they weren't. But they're also here today, gone tomorrow. Everyone thought Kings Of Leon would be HUGE. They couldn't follow up their one hit album, and now they're broken up. Arcade Fire won a freakin' Grammy...has anyone thought of them since? I think FTP put out a great album, enjoyed some success off of it, and will wind up being the answer to a trivia question most people will get wrong in two years.

I'd give them a chance before slapping that title on them. I thought Ke$ha was a one-hitter. It seems she isn't, sadly.

There were so many great artists out there getting a chance. The same way there's a new rap artist flavor of the month nowadays, the 90s saw rock bands get those opportunities. Green Day, Rancid, Silverchair, Bush, Live, Local H, Everclear, Weezer, Hole, Smashing Pumpkins, Beck, Radiohead, Eve 6, Toadies, Sublime, The Offspring, Stone Temply Pilots, No Doubt, Harvey Danger....man, a list of awesome 90s bands could go on for days!

Their style actually kinda reminds me of MGMT when they hit it big in 2008. In fact, I think of Foster the People's album "Torches" as the album that MGMT should've made to follow up "Oracular Spectacular", which instead they made an album that sounded different than songs like "Time to Pretend", "Electric Feel", and "Kids", called "Congratulations."
In fact, this was their big single from that album:

I do, and I love it, it's a good kind of different, they went to a more psychedelic style, and the band themselves said this is their style, their type of music. Also, I love Foster The People, the album is magnificent and they are very smart, writing catchy songs and original lyrics!, I don't understand all the people calling them one hit wonders, every great artist had a big song everyone listen; and the whole concept of "Rock's Dead" is ridiculous, this is rock, like it or not, this is the current rock music, just like Grunge in the 90's and Nu-Metal in the late 90's/early 00's, you can't expect the rock music always sound the same, you gotta move and diversify the genre, just because indie rock is popular doesn't mean it's the only current rock sound around here.

I didn't say rock is dead....I said rock is dead as far as mainstream music is concerned. Rock is alive and well. The Gaslight Anthem are, in my opinion, the greatest rock band around today and they're only getting bigger. But how many people actually know them? Most successful artists today are not from the rock and roll genre. Lady Gaga, Drake, Beyonce, Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, Lil Wayne, Bruno Mars, etc, etc. There are successful rock acts - like I said before Green Day, Foo Fighters, Coldplay. Paramore is pretty big. The Black Keys are getting bigger. Kings Of Leon had that one massive album. Radiohead and Red Hot Chili Peppers will always be huge. The point I was making is that mainstream music mostly ignores rock and roll aside from the huge hits, such as "Pumped Up Kicks". After this single dies down, so will most of the attention FTP has right now. It's not a knock on them, it's just the way the genre is treated right now. When compared to the 70s, 80s and 90s, rock is nowhere near as big as it once was. It's not dead and it never will be. It's just currently taking a backseat to other genres at the moment in terms of mainstream appeal. I think that will change again some day, or at least I hope so. Music, like wrestling, tends to be very cyclical. People seem to think that me calling them one hit wonders means I don't respect their art. I do. They write good, catchy songs. I enjoy their album. I've already said that. But I do believe strongly that "Pumped Up Kicks" will be their sole hit. Why is everyone so defensive about that? Look at Neon Trees and MGMT and Arcade Fire and Vampire Weekend. Similar genres and they all had the same thing happen with them. It doesn't mean those artists aren't great, it's just the way things go.
