Rainbow Dash is all right, it's just that her arrogance and confidence can be very overbearing at times.

As for Dash herself........
Hoo boy.....I don't even know where to begin......
Let's see, she's my least favorite of the Mane 6 by a large margin. She's too overconfident, she's a braggart, she has no humility whatsoever, she's brash, she's a douche to nearly everything and everyone, even her friends(I seriously wonder why the rest of the Mane 6 are still her friends. If anything, the rest of the Mane 6 should all be splitting the Element of Loyalty for still sticking with her royal doucheness this long, I honestly would've stopped being her friend a long ass time ago), she doesn't learn her lesson AT ALL(she's had how many episodes where the moral was basically to have humility, stop bragging, and BE NICE TO OTHERS? Nearly every single one), and to top it all off......the Cult of Dash. Oh do I hate her cult.
Applejack said it best:
The funny thing is, I don't hate her, it is just....well.....Private Pansy, will you take this?
*exhales*
Man it felt good to get that off my chest.

Still my favorite, and who I identify with the most.
"Sonic Rainboom" shows you that she's not all-ego, all the time.
Having the back-to back episodes this season hasn't helped her rep around here. "Mare-do-well", love it or hate it, showed that she is very good at what she does, but not AS good as her ego tells her. Hell, she could be even BETTER if she was more dedicated to her craft - something that they don't emphasize.
"May the best pet win" toyed with her ego in what she thought she wanted but as Twilight pointed out, she went after it for all the wrong reasons. Tank taught her the lesson (and I think the bat would have been better, but just me) that she needed to learn.
I know there were some gripes about the Atomic Rain-nuke in "Lesson Zero", but the more I think about it, I think it was more for a gag than suggesting that she has "weaponized" her best aerial maneuver.
She plays herself as larger than life - if she wasn't such a lazypony she could very well live up to that reputation. but she's not going to get to that point.

I like Rainbow Dash. She's not my favorite in the world and her episodes tend to be weak, but she's alright. Really don't too much mind her being a jerk, it doesn't exactly hurt to have one.

Currently at the 5th spot in my list. Her douchey attitude is a massive turnoff to me.

Oh boy, Rainbow Dash. Started off as my favorite and has fallen all the way down to #5 out of the mane 6. Yea, her attitude this season has done nothing for me, as well as putting the pets through such a harsh trial. Hopefully in the second half of the season she can make up lost ground.

Ah, I remember the early days where I liked Dash...she was number 3 on my list, not acting like she was THE gift to Equestria, and actually an all around friend. FWF stopped that, but it was made up for in Sonic Rainboom, although I hate how Cutie Mark Chronicles made her the "Mary-Sue" of the group...she dropped to #6 and stayed there, but at least there was still a glimmer of hope that something could be done to make me like her again. Now? Forget about it. MTBPW was an episode where I started to think that that hope was lost, (Seriously, her treatment of the animals seemed like abuse, and her attitude towards Tank was terrible. Poor Turtle.) and Mare-Do-Well...oooooo god...during the second episode commercial break, I actually said "Ha, take that bitch." Oh and guess what, you KNOW she didn't learn her lesson at the end of the episode...ugh. Not only that, but she's has the "Pikachu Effect" going for her. What I mean is she's an overpowered, overrated, obnoxious douche, yet she's the unofficial mascot, showing up in almost all the merchandise like she's the only f***ing character that matters!!! Really, she's a role model and gets shoved down our throats merch-wise while real role model like characters get shafted!? Are you f***ing kidding me!? It's Pokemon all over again, only with "awesome radicallness" replaced "cute and fluffy and you will like them dammit!" If we continue to get her this douchey, I'd rather have Derpy as the second pegasus...really, I would. /rant and inb4 "lololololujusjellyshe'sdabest" EDIT: And f*** her cult too!

She's......not exactly my cuppa tea.
Strictly from a design standpoint, I love how she looks. The sharp lines and colors give her a good sense of speed and I can understand, if not always support, why she's used as the flagship character for merchendise. She's brightly-colored, and has an easily identifiable sihouette.
The issue is how she's written. For as vibrant a design and dynamic as her movements are, she's very static in terms of her personality and flat. When she's presented as having weakness (her fragile ego in "Sonic Rainboom", Torn Loyalties in "Return to Harmony) she seems more like a real character. Given that her main trait has been her speed and her athletic ability and EVERY moral involving her has been to be humble it makes her seem more like a parody of the "Ace" character than anything serious. (To be fair though, part of the issue is the aforementioned back-to-back Dash-based episodes, leading it to look like her powers of retention are SORELY lacking).

Rainbow Dash is my #1 pony for a variety of reasons. Yes, she's got a load of flaws, but really, it's the flaws of the ponies that make the show compelling and hers are no different.
Now, what I will argue is this idea that she does not learn her lesson. She has always done the right thing in the end. If that weren't the case, she'd have the falcon as her pet and she would have used Spike's pre written note to the Princess.
Her design is also the best of the bunch, and that's why she's on all the promo materials.

So I take it she's the Cena of the FiM fandom?
I'd say she's my third favorite of the primary cast behind Rarity and Pinkie, but then again I'm partial to arrogant characters that often fall on their faces (re: Peggy Hill). Plus she's adorable.

As said, I get why she is the face of the merchandise, she has the most engaging design of all of the Mane 6, and easily the most recognizable/memorable one in terms of design. That said, she is a horrible choice to be the flagship merchandise character from a character standpoint. She's not the main central character(that is Twilight), and she is a HORRENDOUS role model. Pikachu at least makes sense as being the flagship Pokemon because he is Ash's main Pokemon. Wherever Ash, the main character, is, Pikachu is. I'd let Dash having the merchandise spotlight slide if she was at least a good role model, she definitely isn't that, though. Arguably the best role model of the Mane 6 is Applejack, but let's be honest, she has a really bland design. But oh well. Rainbow Dash is our John Cena. Take that however you will. I'm not entirely sure if that is a good or bad thing, myself.

Her design is also the best of the bunch, and that's why she's on all the promo materials. She may do the right thing in the end, but two things: 1) The moral of her episodes seem to always be the same damn thing. 2) She usually only does the right thing after the rest of the Mane 6 get on her case. If they didn't speak up against her bullcrap, she'd probably still do it.
