You wanna know what makes this segment even worse? According to Meltzer they actually had J.R.'s wife out there in the crowd. And of course she apparently wasn't told anything beforehand. So they basically had her out there solely to watch them fire JR and humiliate him yet again. And nobody else backstage was apparently aware of this either.
Sometimes WWE just makes me absolutely sick.

It would make a ton of sense for JR to end up being the permanent RAW GM.

Yeah, I'm inclined to agree that they are aware that pro wrestling is scripted. What's the first thing anyone does to get heel heat, hurt someone who is beloved. Who is more beloved than JR?
So, poof, 10x the heat for getting rid of JR, which would probably be something he approves of.

They pretty much just sprung it on him in the middle of the ring. And of course JR, who probably wasn't surprised by it considering it seems to be a tradition to humiliate the guy in his hometown, pretty much no sold it like every other horrible thing they do to the guy. And the only thing it accomplished is that it nearly killed the crowd dead for the rest of the show. Well that and left us with the horrible horrible announcing duo of Lawler and Cole. And again, it's likely because the crowd is used to it by this point just like the Carolinas were used to it back in WCW humiliated Flair nearly every time they went there.

JR should call in sick every time WWE goes to Oklahoma.
It's a lazy attempt to get heat.

See, I'm very skeptical about that. JR plays the tortured sympathetic figure who's always picked on by mean old WWE. I honestly think he enjoys perpetuating that aspect of him. Which is why he's always back, and he's never grouped in with the other "Top WWE corporate" guys when you know he is. Thats just how I feel.

Who cares. To be honest, the guy is overrated anyways No really, I'd like to know why you think he's overrated? A large amount of the fans and almost all of his peers say he's the best of all time. Hes overrated because he has been widely accepted as the "hands down greatest announcer ever" and he isn't. At least IMO. The last 10 years, alot of his commentating has been just relevant to screaming, shouting, overexaggerating. Hes not overrated in the sense of all time. His overratedness really comes from his WWE work IMO.

I don't like JR much, to be honest. I just...don't get the appeal. But if the reports of firing him without even letting him know about it are true, that's really classless.

I was reading a chapter in Mick Foley's 'Countdown to Lockdown' book, and he said in his final conversation with Vince after a SmackDown, he mentioned that one of the things he mentioned that night was he hated the way he's treated J.R. Vince's response was "You think I treat him badly?"
Sums it up I think.

It's so weird how they keep getting rid of him. Michael Cole is just awful. I wish he would get fired for real.

I don't like it either, but I get a feeling that JR takes this stuff way less personally than we do, and what matters most is how he feels about it. JR is the "dog" of WWE. Sometimes, one will pet the dog, other times, someone else will kick the dog. He's like the opposite but equal of Vickie Guerrero in terms of fan support.

It's sickening how Vince seems to get off on bullying J.R.

I don't think JR is all that easy to offend when he's making good money. If his sauce goes on clearance at wweshop.com, then there's gonna be a problem.

I don't get why they just don't throw him on Smackdown! with Booker T.
I think those two would be great together.
