So, in kayfabe, I remember Vince using the post-SD! footage of Hogan revealing his face to the crowd as evidence to finally fire him, but in reality, why did Hogan abruptly leave during this time in the middle of an angle? Was it over $$$ again??
Just curious

I think so. I think he was also tired of being a JTTS. Notice that after this, when he came back, he tended to win. lol.

^This is true lol..I recall him putting everyone and their mothers over in 2002-03...I think after No Way Out 2003, he never lost again in the WWE..
Good ole Hulkster will always keep Hulkamania running wild one way or another ;D

Wasn't there also some controversy with Marvel Comics' Captain America?

Don't care what anyone says, I freaking loved Mr. America, just for the sheer goofiness and audacity of it all.

It's funny how because Hogan left, the angle suddenly became focused squarely on Zach Gowen.

...which then led to Stephanie vs. Vince..
So, Stephanie actually took Hogan's spot lol

Don't care what anyone says, I freaking loved Mr. America, just for the sheer goofiness and audacity of it all. It was awesome. The only issue was that the major angle on Smackdown (possibly the whole company) in TWO THOUSAND AND THREE revolved around Roddy Piper, Hulk Hogan, and Vince McMahon...that's a problem. Half-assedly putting O'Haire into the storyline didn't really cut it, either.

I was actually pretty shocked at how bad Roddy looked during his 2003 run...I know he was already older, but even from how he looked in 1999..it was a huge decline from even then. He was Sheamus white too..

He was Sheamus white too.. He just wasn't himself. His return at WM XIX was AMAZING, but his ensuing run was just...off. There was a backstage face-off between him and Jericho, which sounds like a dream promo and top-class battle of wits, but Jericho just made him look amateur on the mic, which was kind of a shock, but mostly just disheartening to see that he just didn't have "it" anymore. THANKFULLY, he's been WAAAAAAY better in recent years following his return at WM21, constantly turning in awesome performances and show-stealing promos (the "old School's Cool" promo with Jericho before WM25, and of course the promo on Old School Raw with Cena before Survivor Series last year). Hot Rod's one of my all-time favorites, so it's good to see that it was just a bad run, and not the end of his career - because I'd say he succeeded in redeeming himself and leaving behind a worthwhile "legends run" with the WWE, and he's one of the few legends who's not only always welcome to show up, but actually CONTRIBUTES to the current product...plus he beat CANCER. ALL HAIL THE PIPER!

Was it over $$$ again?? Just curious I remember Powerslam magazine reporting he was released because he felt after the Vince feud he should be inserted back into the main event/championship picture whereas Vince was adamant his days headline were over and he be used as a special attraction.
