When all is said and done, I won't forget this reign anyway. I've loved it. Damn right. I wish Punk fans could just be happy that one of their favorite wrestlers has had a very solid WWE title reign, rather than it being held by the same 4 people like the last few years. I'd like more focus on his reign and the title too, but he's had the belt for 6 months and had at least 6 very good-to-great title defenses (EC, Henry 2x, Ziggler, Miz/Del Rio, Bryan) in that time. The focus on Cena doesn't diminish the quality of his work, nor does WWE's lack of balls in terms of going away from Cena has the guy. Who cares if "everyone" forgets it anyway? And I don't even think they will...you don't think the announcers will talk about him as a long-reigning champion once he loses the title and moves on to something else? This has done a great job of establishing CM Punk, whether some realize it or not. Honestly I would be happy if I felt he had a solid reign. I just dont feel this is a solid reign. I feel like it's a reign with no enthusiasm involved. It' feels like to me his first world title run to me but extended and with better matches. It isn't even like watching CM Punk. He doesn't talk much(which is his main strength in my opinion) and when he does...it's like watching a Stepford Wife version of him written by some middle aged writer trying to write a young rebel. I mean the lack of good feuds and segments in the midst of this run is really troubling to me. That's CM Punk's strength. He's a character performer. That's what he does best. He should be cutting a promo every single week about his opponent. He should be talking. Instead he's wrestling in tag matches or telling johnny ace how happy he'll be when john cena beats him or hitting on AJ. At the end of the day above all else,I just think it's bad. I mean they tried to do a good feud with the jericho stuff but it just sucked. I mean they should of seen it coming given that they sometimes went weeks without having punk speak and built up parts of it in a tag match. Plus the material was so bad...so f***ing bad. The good performances couldnt redeem it. To me this is just a muzzled watered down CM Punk whos booked as inconsequential or terribly. I just havent had fun with it since the rumble.

He lost the belt to Kane at the Smackdown tapings tonight, so there goes that achievement...
...is what I'd be saying in the spoiler thread if he actually did lose the title tonight at the Smackdown tapings, but we couldn't possibly know yet because it hasn't even begun.

I actually think he should defend it on TV more. Johnny Ace even said he was gonna make him defend the belt as often as possible, so why not? Even if its against guys who wouldn't have a chance, I think going the Bret Hart route with it would work.

At the very least, it's make the belt seem more important, and it would give some of the more floundering mid-card guys something to shoot for.

I see your point, and agree mostly, maybe I'm just getting more enjoyment out of it from a match standpoint than most. I have really started to dislike his promos, but just kind of wrote that off as "oh, WWE babyface" and instead have concentrated solely on his work in the ring, which has been really good (and has been the main focus, for better or worse). Since I started watching again in 08, the WWE title hasn't exactly been associated with good wrestling. CM Punk has changed that, and that makes me happy. Again, could be a better reign, I like it, and I'm just tired of the argument that "well WWE doesn't promote this as much as something else, so why should I care about it?" That's like saying "well, they don't play Sonic Youth on the radio anymore! why should I care about them?" If you're truly a fan of the performer, you'll care no matter what they're doing.

Two TV defences against Mark Henry, one against Ziggler IIRC and he'll be defending against Kane tonight.

From the quality of his matches, Punk's reign has been a terrific one. His great title defenses against Jericho and Bryan come to mind immediately. Though, the fact that the WWE Champion has not main evented a single PPV this year is just sad. Hell, Punk struggles to main event Raw! I know Cena has a lot more fans in the audience that pay to see him, but it surely wouldn't kill them to let their top title holder main event every now and again.

And there we have it.
CM Punk has officially entered day 200 of the title reign.

CM Punk and Bobby ROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO are two examples of how some title runs go on way longer than you realize and don't even feel as stale as some ones that are way shorter. Roode being the longest-reigning TNA champ is crazy, since some of Angle's (among others) title reigns have felt like they went on forever. To find out Punk's gonna beat Triple H's never-ending reign is also crazy.
That's the mark of a great champion, I suppose. Punk feels like he just won the thing 3 months ago, tops. If he goes a year, it'll be like Cena's '06-'07 run, but done in a way that slowly solidifies him with the fans instead of making them sick of him.
Good on WWE, and good on Punk.

Honestly, Punk can keep that belt till WM next year and it"s fine with me. It's not like HHH's reign of terror where every week was boring as all hell. He's good at what he does. I say this as someone who hated Punk for years before last summer. CM Punk as "the guy" for WWE? No problem. Let him run with it. s***, he's the best they've brought us since the Rock.

One reason it hasn't grown stale is that it's NEVER THE FOCUS OF ANY SHOWS.

One reason it hasn't grown stale is that it's NEVER THE FOCUS OF ANY SHOWS. Pretty much. In order to go stale, something has to be exposed first.

Wouldn't it be such a bitch if Punk would lose the title in a House Show match since WWE loves f***ing with us.

It has been a good reign, but theyve constantly played him second fiddle to whatever Cena has been doing. Cena has been higher up the card every PPV that Cena has been on during Punks reign barring the Rumble.

Then they should just superglue the belt on Cena if they don't have enough faith to gamble with anyone else in the main event slot. It is a valid complaint, people want the title as the main event of the show, not guy vs. his boss. Either take risks with someone else or just keep the belt on Cena permantely.

I must be one of the only people here who is thouroughly enjoying all of Punk's current run. It is not perfect by any means, but we have seen SO much worse.
Would I love to see Punk in main events more often, absolutely! Should it have gotten top billing over last months PPV, yes! Should it have gotten top billing at Extreme Rules? no way...
The fact is that Cena just flat out sells more tickets to shows. Brock sells more PPV's that Punk does.
I am just happy that the WWE is letting him face wrestlers who are good opponents and give us good-to-great matches.

I'm telling you, it feels like Diesel's year long reign in many ways.

I'm telling you, it feels like Diesel's year long reign in many ways. If only they'd kept up the Tensai push, he could've taken the "mediocre fat man bafflingly passed off as a main event threat due to the thin roster" spot and been the King Mabel of the modern era. Of course, right now Punk's doing the feud with the heel he has an extensive kayfabe AND real life history with who is also more over than him. Wait, does that mean AJ is Pamela Anderson? She's doing a better job of acting like she actually gives a crap about the angle, at least. ... Oh f***, and that means Kane is Sid.
