Chavo, Maryse, DH Smith, Masters, Kozlov, Melina and Gail Kim.
This is it, correct? I can't remember the last time we had a year with so few people being canned. There might be developmental guys, but I dunno if they truly count.
Does anyone think this will mean a massive spring cleaning in 2012? Or will they continue to keep guys like Reks, Baretta and the rest of the NXT posse around?

I always love (I am an Asshole) the spring cleaning almost better than the draft...
I feel bad for the guys who lost their jobs, but I like to speculate who is going and who is not and it always gets rid of the talent that is taking up time.
I am all about seeing new guys come up, like Husky Harris

Edge's retirement may have something to do with it; he was probably pulling in a hefty main eventer salary that was worth as much as a few of the undercard guys' contracts combined.

Nothing against the guy, but I'm always SHOCKED when I see JTG's name in spoilers and result threads. I don't know how he's survived this long.

Honestly the roster really isn't that huge right now, so I'm not surprised that there haven't been many cuts.
Plus with the new network they'll probably be using more lower card guys for stuff as it is.

HBK retiring last year, Edge retiring this year, McCool retiring this year, Trips doing more work in the office than in the ring, all probably have contributed to the lack of firings.

I figure they saved a lot of money between Edge retiring, Chavo's release (he was there forever, he probably earned a decent salary just for that), and Undertaker becoming a "one match a year" guy.
Plus is there anyone who's just dead weight right now? Maybe the Bella twins, but they get TV time every now and then at least. Everyone else either shows up on NXT, Superstars, or the main shows.

I don't like the spring cleaning hype. It's total, raw, unabashed schadenfreude. And what good does that do? Make people feel better that other people lost their jobs?

They have a little smaller roster than usual...also a lot of injuries.
Not that guys like Tyler Reks are taking over for Rey Mysterio, but people in the upper/mid get bumped up to fill those spots...and so on for lower down the roster too. You probably wouldn't see say, Ted Dibiase, make appearances if there weren't as many injuries.
So yeah that's why less firings. Even so, we'll probably see a batch of them before too terribly long, probably after a round of FCW callups.

I'm intrigued as to how one can piledrive oneself?

Nothing against the guy, but I'm always SHOCKED when I see JTG's name in spoilers and result threads. I don't know how he's survived this long. He is actually really good. The guy can talk on the mic and he is decent in the ring. For some reason they just don't want to push him as a singles star. I think they had a bunch of plans for Gaspard and he just didn't work out and they basically just forgot about JTG. I would really like to see JTG and Darren Young in a legit tag team with a tag team gimmick based off JTG's gimmick.

Good. It really is hard to get a job these days with the economy, especially as a wrestler.

I think the WWE currently has a very solid roster that gels well together. Yes, the creative team may let us down, but the overall onscreen talent is very good, and young to boot.
The only cut that kinda surprised me was Kozlov. In the start of the year, he & Santino were on fire. Then he was used regularly on TV, and then released. The guy on his own would never mainevented, but keeping him paired with Santino was priceless.
I know Morrison, wasn't technically fired, but considering his performance at the last RR, you would have thought 2011 would have been a big year for him. Instead, he left without a whimper.

I don't think they go for a big spring cleaning. With WWE Network coming up, they could put even the least used talents to actually do something.
