Went to the Smackdown live event tonight at First Niagara Center. Pretty good show, and maybe a sign of some things to come with regards to a rebirth of the career of one Drew McIntyre? Seems with Randy Orton out of the picture he is hitching himself to the Barrett Barrage Bandwagon.
Justin Gabriel defeated Hunico (w/Big Samoan Guy, but w/o bicycle)
Justin Gabriel felt like dancing a lot in this match. Weird. Hunico was super over (probably just cause he was the first heel out). These guys mesh pretty well.
Street Fight: Sheamus defeated Wade Barrett
Chimel announced they're offering refunds due to Randy Orton being unable to appear in this match. Wade Barrett requested we acknowledge his presence and expressed his condolences for Randy Orton being out of action for the next six months, but that it should be a lesson to those who get in the way of the Barrett Barrage. He and Sheamus brawl around the whole arena, like all four corners of it. Eventually Drew McIntyre runs in (seriously Drew McIntyre!) and nails a Future Shock DDT on Sheamus, but Sheamus kicks out of the pin after, Drew comes back for more but gets a DDT on a steel chair instead. Sheamus kicks out of the Winds of Change, almost gets a Wasteland on the chair, but hits the Brogue Kick and gets the win.
Jinder Mahal (w/turban) defeated Ted DiBiase
Crowd doesn't care, Ted resorts to starting a U-S-A chant himself, even gets on the mic and tells "the punjabi princess" that "we're in the land of the free and the home of the brave". I took this oppurtunity to use the restroom. Came back before the end, which was Jinder winning with the most evil of evil foreigner moves, the camel clutch.
Seth Rollins defeated Tyson Kidd
Most of the crowd didn't seem very aware of who either of these guys were and who should be cheered. Some Tyler Black chants though. This is a really good match, Rollins could definitely get over with all the acrobatic stuff he was pulling off. Rollins won with a turnbuckle powerbomb followed by some weird stomp/kick (maybe a botch, didn't look like his regular superkick).
Intercontinental Title Match: Booker T defeated Cody Rhodes via DQ
This match was supposed to happen earlier in the card but Cody Rhodes attacked Booker T from behind on the way to the ring and said "it ends tonight". Cody came out after the Rollins/Kid match and attacked both of them. Explained who he was, how he overcame a career threatening injury to defeat Rey Mysterio at Wrestlemania, how he revitalized the greatest championship in the industry. Booker T eventually came out again, Cody stalled for a long while to get heat, very 80s... Finish was 80s too, with Cody getting intentionally DQed by attacking the referee. Booker chased him down threw him back in the ring, hit the axe kick and did a spinarooni.
Alicia Fox & AJ defeated Natalya & Tamina, guest referee Aksana
Natalya still playing up the tissue box thing... Aksana spanked AJ while she was patting her down before the match... Alicia Fox needs to slow the hell down, she's got a lot of athletisim but she seems to rush everything which leads to a lot of little screw ups. Tamina and AJ had a great little back and forth during their time in the match. Aksana didn't figure into the outcome in any way.
Tag Team Championship Match: Epico & Primo (w/Rosa Mendez) defeated Air Boom to become the new WWE Tag Team Champions!!!1!
But... Air Boom defeated Epico & Primo (w/Rosa Medez) after the match was restarted when senior official Scott Armstrong pointed out Kofi's foot was on the rope.
Match started with Air Boom coming up with weird reversals to every single thing The New Colons tried. This lasted for about five minutes straight. It was like a Harlem Globetrotters game. Eventually Primo and Epico hit an offensive move and then was able to isolate Bourne for a long while. Also outside the ring Rosa occupies herself by shaking her ass for no paticular reason every 15 seconds or so. Epico got the "win" with the backstabber, but after the match was restarted he got laid out with Trouble in Paradise followed by Air Bourne.
World Heavyweight Championship Steel Cage Match: Daniel Bryan defeated Big Show and Mark Henry
Mark Henry's ankle is very heavily taped. Crowd probably more into Big Show than Daniel Bryan. Daniel Bryan immedietly tried to escape several times and spent most of the match either getting pummeled or running away. He did manage to take down Big Show with a long series of kicks and lock in the LaBelle Lock but Mark Henry broke it up. They almost broke the much cheaper looking house show cage early on when Big Show did two Stinger Splashes to Mark Henry who was standing on the ring apron between the ropes and the cage. Mark Henry would spend a lot of time down and out since he was limited by his injury, but took a few other big hits like a Big Show spear and a WMD punch. Finish was kinda out of nowhere, Daniel Bryan escaped as Big Show was trying to pull him in by the neck.
After the match Wade Barrett and Drew McIntyre (seriously, Drew McIntyre!) ran in and double teamed Big Show. Sheamus ran in for the save, and fed them to Big Show for a double chokeslam. Big Show took the World Title, got all Andre/Hulk faceoff with Daniel Bryan, then handed Bryan the belt. The night ends with Daniel Bryan's theme playing as the faces walk around slapping hands.
