I'm not saying I don't like it because I do, and it makes Kane "fresh again" but why? he was unmasked for 8 years, so its not like we don't know what he looks like, nor does he something to hide. he's not a luchadore so it's not for tradtion. is it because he wants to "embrace hate" in that people feared him/hated him more when he was wearing a mask. Don't get me wrong I like the look, but I'm don't see the sense in it (kayfabe I know about the guiness world record thing)

I think you nailed with the whole "embrace the hate" thing. WWE loves to be "symbolic".

It's just symbolic of Kane embracing his true self, like he thinks Cena should.

All I know is, that promo sucked. Just went on and on, Kane was pronouncing things weirdly, and it ended really anticlimactically.

Because he wins more with the mask, it's a horse blinder sort of thing.

I don't know, but I hate it. I never wanted Kane to have the mask back. There was no need other than Attitude Era nostalgia.

...So is everyone now just going to ignore the first two posts in this thread that explain everything clearly?

he was talking more like Evil Cody Rhodes tonight than Kane Perhaps he absorbed Masked!Cody's vocal patterns by burning his mask backstage prior to the promo?

Because he wants royalty checks from all the replica masks that WWEshop.com will sell.
Hey, just because he's an insane pyromaniacal monster doesn't mean he hasn't got bills to pay.

he was talking more like Evil Cody Rhodes tonight than Kane I actually got Taker vibes with the way he would growl after every line. The way he said the word "soul" solidified that for me.

All I know is, that promo sucked. Just went on and on, Kane was pronouncing things weirdly, and it ended really anticlimactically. I didn't think it sucked, it was technically a very good promo...which surprised me considering I've never thought talking was Kane's strong point. I agree that it dragged on though, and his pronunciation was kind of annoying...but I didn't think it was bad at all. I actually loved the ending. I thought it was really creative. Thing is, I love this angle...I just don't know why they're using Kane for this. There are so many other people that could be used better in that role. But instead they go with a completely random heel turn for the guy that shouldn't even be talking. *shrugs* That's our WWE creative!

I imagine the kayfabe reason was because he lost sight of himself over the years, and by putting the mask back on, he's able to rechannel himself as hatred personified.
I think ultimately his WHC run might have hurt the impact of this character tweak, because he started delivering those 'evil' style promos again while feuding with Taker in 2010. However, he did spend several months after that as a face, at least. I would have rather seen him get burned and forced to put the mask back on or something, but I like it still. We've really reached the end of maskless Kane's relevancy. There's a whole generation out there that missed Kane's first year - if they can book him as a true monster again, it'll be entertaining. They should really try to make him seem like a hard guy to beat. Kicking out of the first finisher, taking chair shots and then slowly turning his head at his opponent...that's the kind of stuff that makes him scary. Unfortunately they'll never have the mystique about him in the body suit and full mask (which implied he was physically burned all over aside from one arm - a very memorable image).

The first mask he took off tonight made it look like Gen. Grevious was standing under a buffet lamp. Seriously this is sounding like a Jedi rip off "embrace the hate" = Release ur anger only ur hatred can destroy me". Logan/Sting already dipped into that well this yr. But hell WWE usually does it better, let's see where this goes.

I am more confused, to why he needs two masks. it's a war helmet. Like Vader and Kamala. It's just to show people that it's time to kick ass, but impractical to actually fight with.
