....have been impressive lately. He seems to be getting more and more confident talking in front of a large audience.

He's obviously way better when he is in front of a crowd and cutting loose.
The strictly scripted backstage stuff with him I remember being awful though. "Oh Gail, when you do submissions, you're so hot."
That can probably be chalked up to flat-out poor writing.

He's got that natural comfortability. And while he'll never be known as one of the great talkers, he's believable in what he says. And that's the most important thing. With Morrison, you never believed a damn thing the guy said because he sounded like he was acting 24/7. I don't get that vibe from my boy D-Bryan.

Bryan feels unfiltered on the mic, that's the real guy out there talking. He's no larger than life character or anything, because that's not his personality at all. He's humble, intelligent, quirky and lighthearted on the mic, unless provoked and then he brings the intensity and its cool to see.

He is underrated on the mic. He was fine in ROH on the mic.
He cut a great promo on Cole on the first season of NXT.

Have they ever really been that bad, though? I can't speak for his pre-WWE stuff, but I always thought he was decent on the mic, beyond the occasional corpsing and tendency to end every other sentence with "OK?".
Besides, a guy with a no-nonsense "wrestler gimmick" like Bryan shouldn't be going into long-winded monologues with lots of catch-phrases. He just needs to get his point across with enough conviction to get crowds behind him.

I think what is also important is that they are actually developing his character. Lately they have let Bryan show some personality. We know he can do goofy (Bateman stuff, the "too slow" handshake with Mark on SD) as well as the high intensity stuff that shows him as someone with a chip on his shoulder that wants to prove himself.
He is a perfect ( and perfectly different) version of the ol' "yourself turned up to ten" characterization. People who have talked or heard Bryan know that what he's saying is all him, but that his delivery is more focused and intense and it works. I think the crowd is reacting the way it is because most of them don't know how to react to it. He's not too smart alecky or smarky like Punk or Ziggler, he really has this brutally honest "everyman" feel to him, and I think it will get over eventually. Again, the main thread of my feelings towards Bryan in WWE is that from day one he has been treated "differently." That sometimes is a good thing, and other times, it seems like a not so good thing. Either way, with a nice push and some interesting storylines, I think his character will get over because he really does have all the tools he needs.

It'd be nice to hear him speak, without of course hearing the words "NERD" or "GOOF" or "FLUKE" being yelled over his promos.

It kind of reminds me of Heenan/Hogans or Hart/Lawler. It's different. In both the previous cases, the announcer never implied that the target of their vitriol was either not worthy of being in the company, and in the case of Hart and Lawler, it led to a heated physical feud, and with Heenan, he could at least count on the Heenan Family to back him up. There's no reason why DB can't just punch Cole in the face. He has no defence.

He's pretty much in the Bret Hart talking catergory. Gets his point across but is outshined by too many guys.

He's good for how they're presenting him. The only real issue ever had with his mic work is his goofy grin that he sometimes gets.

Watch at 1:20
This is the kind of writing I cannot stand and really isn't something that should ever be uttered from the mouth of Daniel Bryan.
