-As noted earlier this week, WWE has registered the trademark "Fear My Name." Several readers sent word that Ambrose used the line "fear my name" during his heel promos he did before the WWE dark matches he worked last week.
On one hand, this makes me giddy at the thought that Ambrose (Moxley) will be heading up to the roster soon. On the other hand, this catchphrase, if it's really going to be for him, doesn't really fit him or his name. Ambrose's heel style seems to more Pillman or Piper than mysterious monster heel. I think Skip Sheffield's return as Ryback (if that's true as well) would be more suited for the phrase.

I don't know. From what I've seen of him, I could see him being mysterious. And you don't need to be a monster to be feared.

Wasn't that one of the lines from Damaja/Danny Basham during his single run?

Don't get me wrong, I have faith that Ambrose himself could pull it off. I just think WWE would have a hard time selling him like that, because often WWE uses the cop-out of big=scary=feared. There is a certain level of subtlety that Creative would have to use, and though they are capable of it, I think they are sometimes scared that it will go over the normal fan's head. However, WWE has surprised me a lot lately, so I'm more than happy to have my skepticism extinguished, but we'll see!

why does he have to be mysterious or anything "Fear my name" can equal be "You don't want to have to wrestle me."

It would work but Dean Ambrose isn't exactly a scary sounding name.

"Fear my name" sounds like something they would give Kane.

What the hell is a Ryback? Ryback is a Terminator-esque gimmick. The name is a portmanteau of his real name, Ryan Reeves, and his old nickname, "The Silverback."

"Ryback" will never remind me of anything but Under Siege.
... I think we need a Steven Seagal gimmick.

why does he have to be mysterious or anything "Fear my name" can equal be "You don't want to have to wrestle me." Can be, yes. However, as I said, it would require some subtlety on WWE's part because they have long trained something like "Fear My Name" to have a certain connotation to it. For example, if this news story didn't have Ambrose's name attached to it, and the suggestion was that SOMEONE was going to get that phrase attached to them, I'm guessing next to no one would guess Ambrose. Not because Ambrose isn't great or capable, but because the connotation has already been established in the WWE-line of thinking. But again, I'm more than happy to have someone as talented as Ambrose break the mold.

I find it funny that the name to be feared is one of the least intimidating on the roster.

I find it funny that the name to be feared is one of the least intimidating on the roster. To be fair it will have more to do with his actions than his name. I mean if you didn't know what he did, would a name like Ted Bundy be scary?
