I'm convinced that Ziggler will never get pushed further than where he is. I think that he's going to be forever floated around in the upper-midcard, facing either Orton or Sheamus every week on Smackdown, always putting on a great match, always losing.
His problem is that he's too much of a self-made performer. Over the last few years he's transformed himself into one of the very best workers in the company, and (though he never gets the chance to show it on TV), one of the best, most natural, most genuinely entertaining promos in the company. WWE likes guys who that can build themselves, guys like Wade Barrett or Cody Rhodes or Miz, who have talent and potential but aren't quite there yet.
They could put the WWE title on Ziggler tomorrow and he would excel, simply because he is a main event talent, but that's why they won't. They want to have clay who they can shape and mold into mini-Ortons, but Ziggler is too far along as a worker and a personality for that. It's the same reason it took Punk so long to break through, because he came to the company as a three-dimensional, fully developed performer who wasn't interested in being a "WWE Guy".

I don't quite follow. Your WHC and WWE champions are kings of the indies, by and large NOT "WWE Made" and the US Champion is about as self-made as you can get. Hell, if anything the current championship climate is the BEST time for Ziggler to win the rumble, as the WWE is seemingly showing that putting on killer matches and actually getting over with the crowd will net you some rewards.

This thread is getting me amped for the next couple months of television. Thanks guys, now I'll be disappointed.
Based on what I've read, I, too, want Ziggler to win the Royal Rumble. Putting him against anyone at 'Mania would be a sure bet on WWE's part as the guy can work and sell with anybody. Granted, DB/Ziggler would be everyone's first choice. But face it, it won't happen, as good as it sounds. They need to sell the PPV to people outside of the forums. So, I'm sure a guy like Sheamus or Orton will find their way into the Royal Rumble victory and straight to 'Mania.

If Sheamus wins and faces DB for the World Title at WM28, that would be hilarious. NOT GOOD ENOUGH FOR 27 BUT MAIN EVENT WORTHY FOR 28 That would be utter genius. Much as I'm supporting Wade, I want to see this now!
